I am writing this review on behalf of my father who has had the worst experience with this insurance. He was looking to purchase flood insurance and was referred to this insurance company by the construction company he is using to construct his new home. First off, his insurance policy was cancelled that same day, due to the bank not accepting the type of policy. Now we understand that there was an issue on the side of the bank, but what they did after is what has left a sour taste in our mouths. The insurance company fell to notify us that the policy was cancelled. Once the bank notified my dad they did not accept that policy, my dad went back to the insurance and spoke with the same person that opened his policy, which is Merle. My dad informed her that the bank did not accept the insurance and he wanted to cancel that policy. At that point she should have notified him that his policy was already cancelled, she never checked their system to see that his policy was no longer in effect. She proceeded to tell my dad that she cannot cancel his policy unless they are notified by the bank that that policy is unacceptable (which according to the bank, they did). My dad then asked her to provide him with a QUOTE to see how much a new and different policy (one that the bank would accept) would be. Since the quote she provided was an outrageous price, my dad told her not to write it, he was going to find a better quote. Day or so later, he went to the bank to get something in writing so that he can take to them so that they can cancel his policy, they told my dad that they in fact had already notified the insurance; all he needed to do was just cancel the policy. Days later we get a letter from the insurance saying that our policy was cancel the day of inception due to it not fitting the guidelines and requirements of the bank. He headed over to the insurance, with letter in hand and all they could tell him is that it was cancelled and that he would get his check for within two weeks. My dad left content, not knowing the worst was yet to follow. He started a new policy with a different insurance company that was able to provide him with a more reasonable amount. Days later, he gets a call from the insurance company that his policy was active. He told them he has the letter they sent and they just had him in circles, one minute it was cancelled, the next it was active and then finally it was cancelled. He told them he already had a new policy with a different insurance and he does not want a policy with them. Days later, he gets a letter from the insurance saying he owes almost $2000 for the difference in "his new policy". Without my father's permission she decided to write a whole new policy. As far as I know, they need his permission and signature to be able to do that, which of course they didn't. This Merle lady, took it upon herself to write a whole new policy after he had already told her he no longer wanted a policy with them. He headed back to their office, flabbergasted with the situation; all she could tell him is she doesn't know what is going on. He asked her to cancel the policy and refund him the money and she says she can't. HOW IN THE WORLD CAN YOU START A NEW POLICY WITHOUT A PERSON'S CONSENT AND THEN NOT BE ABLE TO CANCEL IT? She gets some guy in their Denver office on the phone, specifically asked for someone that would speak Spanish so that my dad could understand better, but to make things more difficult, he refused to speak Spanish, said there is no way they can cancel the policy, unless my dad pays thousands of dollars to have the entire street surveyed for flood insurance. Why does he have to pay even more money to cancel a policy he did not want in the first place? All we wants is for them to cancel any policy he has with them and refund him his money. Our next step is going to the Texas Department of Insurance and the insurance board and filing a complaint against them. They are taking advantage of hard working people for their financial gain.
