“I opened up a new bank account. I've opened up bank accounts various times in my life at various places. However, the technology (and customer service) has changed over the years. When I was acknowledged upon entering, I wasn't greeted?Instead, someone stopped typing on a computer at a nearby desk and asked if they could help me. I wasn't sure if she was speaking to me or someone else.Call me old fashioned, but I am used to hearing, hi my name is Suzie, how can I help you today? Or, Welcome to XYZ bank, how many I help you today?I didn't get anyone's names, (I had to ask each person their name, because it wasn't offered) and that was a little unsettling to me.Don't ask me why, but when I'm going to give my money to an institution and I'm asked to trust them immediately upon meeting them, I'd at least like to have their name and preferably a handshake? Again, maybe I'm old fashioned, but that's what I'm used to when it comes to customer service.The lady who helped create my new account was training someone else, and so I sat in silence for quite a long time not sure what was happening. I'm guessing that they were entering information into the computer and doing the necessary paperwork, however I was not informed of anything that was happening and I sat in silence for a long time, waiting for some sort of acknowledgment of what was happening and what was expected of me? Perhaps something like this would be appropriate: "Hello, I'm Suzie and this is Jenny and I'm training her today. We are going to walk you through the process of setting up your new account. There will be some paperwork we need to fill out and several long moments of silence while we enter your data into the computer. Please feel free to ask any questions along the way and we will gladly answer them for you."Again, I may just be old-fashioned, however I think it completely appropriate to be kept in the loop when it's MY information that we're handling.”
