“Speaking of unique places, if you are a needleworker, you simply MUST schedule some time to go to Pocket Full of Stitches, PFOS (to those of us who frequent her). This type of boutique, owner-owned and curated needlepoint shop is a dying breed and Lubbock is very lucky to have PFOS and its cadre of talented workers! Every person who works there must know how to needlepoint so they can help all those who come in seeing help. I must admit to more than a little bias as I used to work here waaaaay back in the college days but that doesn't influence my review.I still go back there on a regular basis to visit old friends and see the new merchandise. They keep me updated with a great newsletter, which is free to join, and if you are going to wonderful oasis of stitching, plan to spend a couple of hours, easy. And a couple of hundred dollars too.Nothing truly beautiful and lasting is cheap, just remember that. If you are burdened with a male, tell him to walk down the sidewalk to Saigon Cafe, another Lubbock treasure and have some spring rolls.I made the mistake of inviting my other half into the store with me. He is a scientist, hence a very curious individual. He wandered over to a wreath decorated with 12 complicated needlework ornaments and pointed to them and said, "These would look great on our Christmas tree."Well it took me 3 years of dedicated stitching to make those damn ornaments and it taught me a valuable lesson. I have never taken him into PFOS again. He gets dropped off at an eatery or bookstore or other venue BEFORE I head to the stitching store. One of the great things PFOS has is various ornament of the month clubs. They send you one ornament along with all the fibers with a stitch guide a month and you can get the ornament monthly or bimonthly. And you can take as long as you like to make them. When you are done, you can take them back to PFOS and they send them off to the finisher and in a few months, you have an heirloom quality ornament that you made that you can use to decorate your home and pass along to your descendants.”
