We drove over an hour to this shelter because they had a great online presence and updated all the animals asap. We adopted Thomas, now known as Grim, and he is our perfect fit. I let the staff know about my concerns on the application (cat friendly and submissive) and they were honest about my options and required meet and greets for some dogs. Thank you for our new best friend!

I have debated on writing a review, but I am honestly very disappointed in this place. I regrettably picked up a stray running down the highway. I am not from gregg county(and just moved to texas), however found the dog in longview so brought her straight there. They refused to take her after I waited over 45 minutes just because I didn't have a TX state ID(my ID hasn't been switched from my previous state of residence). I asked the girl what I was supposed to do with the dog as she was not mine and could not take a stray home because of where I lived. She basically said it wasn't her problem and that was the policy. I just find that insane. I guess lesson learned. I will never try to help a stay again. Very disappointed in the county with this experience. I do imagine if you are there to adopt it would be a completely different experience.

Love all of the dogs but hate to see them there! I wish that I could take all of them home with me or at least give them good homes!

Hated to give our dog. Took forever for them to get to us. Cute girls work there. Who ever types up info on pets needs to work on their reading. Many mistakes on info for dog.

Just adopted a little baby boy from here and the process was super easy. The staff were incredibly polite, kind, and professional. This shelter is very clean and they really take care of the animals here. If I adopt again, I will absolutely come here.
Thank you for the amazing addition to my family ?

They won’t answer or return phone calls. Then the only way you can talk to someone about your animal, by them barely cracking the door open?! These people are ridiculous.

This is the nicest shelter I've ever visited, and big...like a car dealership for pets. The staff is patient, kind, provides great advice/recommendations, and are extremely knowledgeable of the pets in their care. The animal's facilities are remarkable clean too, which is usually rare. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. And the pics I've included aren't the shelter, but the sweet kitten we adopted, which is guaranteed* to make your day better.
*Guarantee can't be guaranteed, but it's more likely than winning the lottery.

If you are ever in search of some extra love in all kinds of animal sizes, this is the place! The staff were super nice, amazing and friendly. They really understand the animals there and get excited about adoptions, the same as the adoptees. Lol!
I do highly recommend checking out their website for adoptions but be prepared for those cuties to get adopted fast! We missed out on a few we were interested in, though we still adopted the sweetest of kitties anyway. ?

People who dedicate their lives to saving and protecting defenseless beings like our pets is admirable. I found a small cat in a park, and with no possibility of finding her owners, I thought it would be best to take her to this shelter. They have their established work hours and you need to make an appointment, but luckily they were very kind and attended to me that same day. Thank you for your patience and dedication.

This is a sad, poor excuse for a damn animal shelter. What kind of place won’t take in a stray because I don’t live in the county.
Now I have no where for this animal to go

If you're not paying to surrender the animal, Longview animal shelter does not care about animals. Majority of the time sadly, Everything in life is about money , and that applies to the shelter deeply. If you're calling about stray animals that's getting hurt ,or pregnant etc.... they don't care because they're not gonna get paid for it , having to basically beg a animal shelter to take in animals because ,seeing them on the street hurts your heart It's very sad. You shouldn't have to beg an animal shelter. Who's sole responsibility in life is to take care of animals , and that includes all animals not just the kind that are putting money in their pockets. For an animal shelter to get disgusted by people bringing in animals occasionally once twice or even three times. It doesn't matter It's absolutely disgusting to think that you're going to get frowned upon or judged and made to feel uncomfortable for bringing in animals
, so my advice for people who find animals that are strays. Please just try to take care of yourself on the streets maybe even try to bring it in your homes or travel to find some people who can help , because it's not Longview animal shelter ,If you're not paying they don't care for majority of the time if it's not the prettiest dogs, they don't care , I see the same bunch of dogs on the street that can be in animal shelter getting taken care of and in new homes getting constantly getting pregnant bruised up hungry and tired, dehydrated looking looking sad probably feeling hopelessness in the streets because animal shelter and animal control decides they don't want them . I shouldn't have to see the same dog for years having constant litter of puppies and calling and everyone's calling to give them help and they decide to deny them and frown upon you when you bring in puppies cats ,dogs etc it's childish , why would an animal shelter make people feel uncomfortable and shamed for bringing in a litter of puppies or animals constantly, ??breaks my heart to think that humans love for animals only extend when the dollar is involved animals are going to get more love on the streets from people working than Longview animal shelter imagine being made to feel uncomfortable for actually doing the animal shelter job by bringing and taking care of puppies not only am I disgusted I will never contact Longview, animal shelter again for anything to think that I actually applied to volunteer here because I thought that they would make differences for animals absolutely not and that doesn’t apply to one singular staff member, but sadly you represent the company and even if you are a good person in that facility it applies for the entire establishment
