This is a really nice park. I stayed in the campground for a week, and the place was very peaceful, and everyone was friendly. Great place to have a hike and watch nature.

Small state park. The spots weren't the best. We stayed in the water and electric spots by the creek and it seemed like erosion had taken its course on the sites. There was quite a drop off from the pavement right out the door of our camper. My kids struggled with it a little bit. The water was on the wrong side of the spot. Lots of trees and shade though. The full hook up circle wasn't that way, and they have covered picnic tables. There is only one shower for all 20 spots, and it's one of the worst ones I've been in at a state park. The CCC dams were cool, as well as the other many things they built around the park. The scenic overlooks were quite overgrown. The trails were great! Lots of botanical information posted throughout. There was a really cool storybook posted on one of the trails. The playground was nice, but needs some repair. There's a basketball court - that's a cool option. Lots of park events too - I think that's good. The staff in HQ was very nice, and did you know you get 10% of at the park store if you have a state park pass?? Had to get ice and their machine was working and well stocked. No big stickers for your camper if you're into that - only small ones. If you're a golfing camper, this is a great place for you to stay. I thought it was a nice little course (I didn't play, but hiked all around it). There is a pool, but it's only open during the summer. I wish state parks could keep their pools open a little longer - we would have loved to use it in September. It's not far from the San Marcos River though. Close to the city of Lockhart too, which is the BBQ capital of Texas, so we enjoyed lots of BBQ during our stay.

Stopped to take a self guided tour since we weren't aware this gem existed less than 20 miles from our home.First and foremost observed how spotless the grounds were throughout the park. Very impressed. And the amenities were grand. Nice swimming pool, nice day use area, golf course next to the park. Lodge for meetings or whatever. Campsites includes paved pull ins, electric water hook ups. There was a dump station on the grounds. Also access to the river for wading or frog hunting. Will definitely be on our list of places to recommend and frequent.Playground: Nice playground with maintained equipment.shower building with bathroom facilities. Dogs allowed on leash.Day use includes picnic tables.Restrooms: See anoveDog-friendliness: See abovePicnic area: See above

Spot 11 has a trail down to the creek. The trails could be wider considering the amount of poison ivy there. We believe we saw two otter in the creek or maybe beavers, that was pretty cool.

We enjoyed a short hike along a small creek on Memorial Day. Was not crowded at all and very peaceful. There is a golf course and swimming pool though we didn't see anyone at either. Very nice destination before stopping for BBQ in Lockhart.

* absolute hidden gem*Showed up around noon on a weekday and almost had the park to ourselves! Very cool history attached to this park, CCC built. Highly recommend. Give the small town of Lockhart some love & grab a plate of delicious local BBQ when you're done ?

Small fee to get in. Super cheap golf, they are redoing the greens. Decent easy to moderate hiking. Fishing is very small areas, but pretty, all I saw being caught was small mouth bass 1lb or less. Lots of hanging caterpillars so check each other that you don't take home a new friend! ?Playground: Awesome playgrounds, great place for camping, cycling, they have a pool too.Restrooms: Clean and they have real toilet seats.Picnic area: Lots of areas for setup.

Excellent trails. Lots to see as you walk around. Nice gift shop. Take a picnic lunch. Try some of the BBQ in Lockhart. Recommend Smitty's for sausage and so did one of the park rangers.

I really enjoyed my first visit to this state park. While not the largest park, I was impressed by the many interconnecting shorter trails which have their own distinct personalities. I parked by the beautifully ccc-constructed recreation hall. Starting down the ccc trail.... I walked all of the trails with the exception of the hilltop trail (which is a shortcut from the southern edge of the park) in about 90 minutes which included many stops to read informational signs and for photo ops.Finished off with lunch on one of the rec hall benches.I would count all the trails as easy, but for those not sure-footed, loose rocks on steep downward or upward sections may be of concern.Well worth another visit!

Beautiful smaller-sized park. Trails are well maintained and make for an easy day hike. The park rangers are very friendly and helpful. We plan to come back with our RV and take advantage of one of the nice campsites once the golf course reopens.

Small campground with clean bathrooms and great trails for walking and mountain biking. Full hook-up sites are in what I call a "parking lot". Power and water only sites are along the VERY shallow creek. Those are sort of pull through sites with an adjacent drop down to the creek.Restrooms: Small building, very clean.

Great small park. Has trails, a creek bed that runs along the park. Ranger station with attentive staff. Park host that shared information. We had site 11, which was a little unleve, wel used lego blocks to fix. The water and electricity were on the opposite side of our motorhome (thank goodness our power cord reached, and we had two hoses). we parked the way we did as the site was more level and I didn't want our door on the opposite side of our campsite. We plan to come back in the summer and use the pool. Great little golf course on site. Not very good wifi if that's a need for youPlayground: Looks fun for the kids and in good shapeRestrooms: Only one shower, two stalls. Clean and maintainedDog-friendliness: There is no dog park, but plenty of trailsPicnic area: Wooden picnic tables throughout the park

Golfin' in nature! This is a really cool little park in the Barbecue Capitol of Texas! As far as I know, this is the only Texas State Park that has a golf course on it! The course isn't exactly Pebble Springs or Augusta, but it's a nice nine-hole course, complete with a few water features. This course has wide open fairways. However, there isn't a sand trap in the whole course, so it's not exactly a difficult course. Most of the holes are pretty straight, and have fairways you could almost land a plane on. The camp sites are laid out in a ring, or linearly, depending on which loop you choose. There's lots of hiking trails- one of the trails that runs parallel to the creek has a book that unfolds as you hike along the trail! Cool! The pool is nice, and I gotta say - whoever is running the water chemistry had it nailed when I went- absolutely perfect water. There's a modest day fee and a nominal fee to play golf or swim. You can make reservations online on the Texas Parks system website. The rangers at park headquarters were absolutely pleasant and helpful. They can rent you a cart, or you can just walk the course too. The restrooms were clean, well functioning, and had TP. The park was picked up, and clean. Be sure to check out the waterfalls, which are quite scenic, but you can't swim in those.
