American Van Lines calls at 1:30p today HALFWAY through our anticipated pack and pick up window of 12p-3p today to let me know that they can NO LONGER pick us up and the next available pick up window is THREE WEEKS AWAY. We are moving out of state and our whole lives got turned upside down. While we wait on our doorstep for the moving truck and get a phone call asking about our ‘flexibility’. DO NOT use them is my advice.

LOTS OF UNEXPECTED CHARGES AND THREATENED WITH LEGAL ACTION FOR A NEGATIVE REVIEW
We used American van lines for a move. The move itself was fine, and the driver/mover were great and timely, however the agent Jovan didn't quote me properly; while I told him repeatedly when making my quote there would be stairs and a semi wouldn't be able to fit in the neighborhood he neglected to include this in the contract price, resulting in hundreds of dollars in extra charges when it came time to move. They admitted fault and gave us half off the stair fee, however the final price was still almost double the initial quote My girlfriend left a complaint with the BBB regarding our experience, only to get a harassing phone call threatening legal action unless we took down the negative review over a month later. I don't appreciate a company threatening to sue over expressing my first amendment rights to leave an honest review of my experience. We are writing this review so others can make informed decisions

The crew left a treadmill and a ton of boxes in the garage that I’d asked them to move downstairs. They also put about half a dozen boxes in the wrong rooms and lost the legs to one of our tables. They didn’t finish setting up our main bed (no mechanics). All of this happened while I was there, actively consulting them on what was supposed to go where. I’m really disappointed. ***Note: Moved to four star review after compensation was provided by company

Rod was AWESOME!!! He was polite to his crew and very polite and respectful to us ....the people being moved.I wouldn't use any other moving company and I would only use Rod Thomas as driver and crew Captain..We had way more furniture than we needed for our new home and they were very patient about where we wanted things to go... AND before leaving they made sure that EVERYTHING WAS TO OUR SATISFACTION .. and it was way beyond our expectations. Thank you Rod and all the rest for your crew for your hard work... My positive review is for the actual people who helped load and unload my things (moving crew). Rod, Reggie & Gerald, the trio from Dallas, TX. They are all hard working, dependable, trustworthy, and delivered my items in a very respectful manner. The management of this company however, needs major work. The communication between American Van Lines (AVL) and their customer is very poor. Calling daily and getting minimal information about where my things were, was very frustrating. The response was always, "We cannot reach our dispatcher". Which lead to thoughts of a scam. If you're fine waiting weeks after you move in for your things, go for it. If you would like them delivered in a timely manner, do it yourself. I recommend not going through a broker like this and sticking to an independent line. You cannot put a price on peace. In the end, I received my things and now can successfully get situated.
