We had a great time here. The shade trees and the friendly deer ? were greatly appreciated. The people here were great and helpful. Most of the parks we have stayed at have no shade from the hot sun. The lake has dried up. Thanks San Antonio! It's still beautiful here and the pool was perfect.

Needs some tlc. Regarding the dry lake bed it seems is still a beautiful place with plenty of wildlife and beautiful sunsets.

We stayed at this campground for two weeks as Thousand Trails members. You choose your site but beware, not all sites are full hookup or 50 amp. The full hookup 50 amp sites are highly coveted so you may not be able to find one of these sites if you need one. Here are the things we liked about this campground: It was quiet the majority of the time. It’s a beautiful campground and was very walkable. We enjoyed walking down to Medina Lake (lake dried up years ago) to watch the sunset and storms. The park ranger was responsive to our complaint about a noisy neighbor. Here are the things we didn’t like: Sarah Cale, the resort manager, is horrible. We tried contacting her three times and she was always “in a meeting” and never contacted us. Also, Jerry chastised us twice for not going to the office when we arrived even though we received an email saying we were checked in and just needed to pick out a site.

This is a beautiful campground with plenty of room and privacy in some of the loops. Full hook ups with some 50 amp sites. The park is loaded with deer including at least 3 bucks. Nice activities center, pool and lighted mini golf course.

Campground overall is run down and needs TLC. Very few sewer hook up sites with 50 amp power. Pool and hot tub were both dirty and unusable. And Medina Lake is gone due to drought and drain off to farming downstream from Campground. Staff were great though and we sure appreciated them helping out with a TT membership renewal glitch.

First
Medina Lake is a man-made lake and due to the drought, it's dry.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
This is a campground not a resort.
Sites are very shady.
Although they have several activites available.
The BIGGEST NEGATIVE ARE THE ROADS.
They are in terrible shape and needs to be repaired immediately.
There is work being done, such as adding more 50amp service.

If you have been a Thousand Trails member for awhile, there are things that you just come to expect at our TT camps: such as the condition of the gravel roads. For my reviews, I compare these parks to a state park. This one is at or better than that standard. Very relaxing views, excellent pool, pickleball, mini putt and basketball courts. The staff does fun stuff like free coffee and donuts. A huge thanks to the staff for hosting a Super Bowl party for all of the campers. We appreciate it!! Excellent base from which to visit San Antonio and the Alamo. Very glad to be a Thousand Trails member.
Walkability: Good walking trails and 15 mph max speed on road

This is one of the more rustic Thousand Trails preserves. Prior to arrival we received an email alert to take 8th Street once we got to Lakehills. It was specific about not taking 3rd Street Spur even if your GPS tried to take you that way. This prior information was greatly appreciated.
The lake doesn't exist, and from the looks of the over growth on the dry lake bed, it appears to have been dry for a while. Still, we enjoyed our stay very much.
The welcome staff provided a map and tips about where we might look for a suitable spot for our rig. We did have to go slowly through the roads as we looked for a site mostly due to uneven roads and some low branches, We found an easy back in, a little longer than our truck and 5th wheel which is a total of 53 ft. Personally, we didn't mind the extra care we had to take because we enjoyed the camping in the woods atmosphere. There were trees on either side of us and behind us. We could see other campers but were far enough away and had some foliage to give us a sense of privacy. We had a good Dish satellite reception after putting our satellite antenna on our roof. We saw lots of doe and one nice size buck near our campsite.
The laundry room was small but clean. There were several people using or waiting to use it the day I wanted to do laundry, so I chose to go to the mini Laundromat in Lakehills, again very small but clean. It was also busy, so we went to the Wash House in Bandera (nice, country ride for about 25 minutes). It was clean, and I was able to use 4 washers and dryers all at once as well as a folding table. So options are available depending on your needs.
The Activity Center is large. When we went in there was a small group of adults finishing up a card game. There was a jigsaw puzzle out on a table and a couple parents painting rocks with their children. The pool table isn't level and has a rip in the felt.
Lakehills had more than I expected. There was a Dollar General, True Value, Hills Market, veterinarian/pet hospital, and American Legion.
From this campground we drove to San Antonio on 2 different days, about an hour away. On day one we went to the Alamo and Riverwalk. On the second day we went to San Antonio Missions National Park which is also close to a Super Walmart.

Laundry is $1.65 per washing machine, $1.80 per dryer/60 minutes with 6 washers/6 dryers, all on CSC digital pay. You need to download the app before you get to the laundry rooms if at all possible. There are big tables for folding, big sink, good ventilation, lots of chairs for waiting. Minigolf is nice and big. Activity center is busy with planned activities. Pickleball, shuffleboard, pool, cornhole, tennis courts, basketball courts. Coffee maker in activity room. Lots of trails to walk. There is no water in lake. It's pretty much completely dried up. Park is about 30 minutes from San Antonio, 25 minutes from Amazon lockers at Quik Mart in Helotes. Almost all trees around laundromat need to be cut down. Lots of Oak Wilt and dead branches will fall on trailers. There 's a bunch of 50 and 30 amps that don't work and have green TT covers on them. There is a paper with a barcode for the gate that works the whole time. We love that the code doesn't change for the gate like at Lake Whitney TT. Tons of deer, okay to feed them. Bought deer corn at True Value in town $9.99 for 50 lbs. They will almost eat out of your hand. The neighborhood coming into this park is a bit sketchy, but we had no issues at all. It is important to take 8th street coming into this park. DO NOT take 3rd street if you're in a big rig.
Nearby activities: The TRUMP Store in Bandera was fun and funny! We missed the gunfight in downtown Bandera on Saturday and would've liked to have seen that. The Cowboy Store has a lot of nice things to choose from. San Antonio is close by. We recommend Mi Tierra Restaurant and Bakery for yummy Tex-Mex. Shop the Mexican Market while you're there. Parking on the roof above the restaurant is $10. It might be free in front of the restaurant, but very hard to get into.....it's always packed. Go at odd times of the day at Mi Tierra to have the shortest wait.
