Pet Care
Deer Creek Veterinary Clinic P.A.
101 Heritage Dr, Johnson CityI took my sweet Zu here about five years ago to have surgery and to board her shortly after for a few days. The staff was so incredibly kind to me and I’ll never forget when they let me talk to Zu on the phone after she woke up from surgery.
Sadly, Zu has since passed but I recommend this vet to every person who mentions to me their pet may need surgery in her honor. Thank you for taking such good care of Zu when you had her - I will never, ever forget ❤️

Herencia cuisine by Christophe
108 W Main St, Johnson CityAbsolutely delicious little gem; his burger was dense and cooked to the perfect temperature. The owner and chef was extremely personable and polite; he even asked about allergies with each person he waited on. He was hospitable and even walked our meals out to us. 11/10 experience!

Farmhouse Vineyards Marketplace & “Tipsy” Trailer
402 E Main St, Johnson CityOmg I am so embarrassed I didn't take photos.... I seriously thought this was a tasting room! Made a quick change from our last stop to head back to Austin for football and SO GLAD WE DID!!!! First off, this is NOT A TASTING ROOM ONLY!!! They grow the grapes sold to many local wineries so they can make their own wines. Loved that they know the whole history and allowed the space to taste and experience what we were tasting and experiencing. The whole staff was so willing to help, knowledgeable, and friendly. The charcuterie was more than we were expecting and so eclectic! The freeze dried okra and mushrooms were icing on the cake dear lawd! The shop was cute too and everyone else enjoying Farmhouse was incredibly nice (and the dogs!) I honestly cannot wait to return again with more time and not on a last minute change to truly experience the wine more.

Not to mention, the restrooms were clean, and the staff were incredibly nice and efficient with everyone's orders. Oh, and that turkey bacon wrap I had was absolutely delicious. Can't wait for our next coffee date!

Westcave Cellars Winery & Brewery
683 Ranch to Market Rd 1320, Johnson CityMargaret and Allan are the most accommodating venue owners I’ve met. We’ve visited their location several times over the past two years, and every time it is like walking in to family. They opened their space to us for our private event this weekend and took care of us through everything! I trusted them for everything, and I will 100% be coming back and I 100% encourage everyone to visit their beautiful property. The wine, the hosts, and the scenery are breath taking.

Silver Dollar Bistro
8264 US-290, Johnson CityIf you don't like the stuck up snobby "wino" atmosphere this place is perfect. It look old rustic western. The food is delicious. The staff is more than exceptional. Wendy took care of my wife and I better than we have been taken care of in a while. We felt like we were visiting an old friend. She explained the vast wine selection and led us both down the perfect paths. My wife and I have completely different preferences where wine is concerned. You don't get treatment like this people. The wine we tasted was delicious and we had a good few laughs. We will definitely be coming back. Silver dollar, you have a gem working for you and we hope to see her again for some more laughs and beyond excellent wine our next time around. Thanks for such a wonderful experience.

Texas Hills Vineyard
878 Ranch to Market Rd 2766, Johnson CityWe came here with family. This place is very nice. It provides you with a pleasant shade being that it’s surrounded by a lot Hill Country greenery. It has a small indoor wine tasting facility with a souvenir shop. They have a great outdoor covered patio where we sat as we enjoyed their delicious red wine and enjoyed nature. Don’t forget to bring your picnic snacks.

Reck 'Em Right Brewing Company
102 S Avenue G, Johnson CityI’ve been through Johnson City so much and am just now coming here.
The food was excellent!!
The brisket tacos were SO FAT and tasty. My
Husband had the Frito Pie with brisket. We also had the jalepeno popper queso with the salsa and some jalapeno crema on the side. Idk what it was but it was DAMN good!
Beer was great! Atmosphere felt like a home town bar and it’s good people and good vibes. The owner was there slinging beers and has the best personality!
Stop by here if you can! I promise you won’t regret it!

Old 290 Brewery & Restaurant
4064 US-290, Johnson CityOh my goodness! How did I not know about this place before this year?! Every time we have been in Johnson City, we have had bad food experiences. This year, I vowed to change that. I did a little search and found this restaurant/winery. It is a little ways out of town, but very beautiful. My husband and I don't even drink and I will definitely be back to this place. The atmosphere was somehow expensive and cozy at the same time. Our waiter was one of the nicest waiters we have ever had. He was Hungarian. This place felt super Christmasy as well. Outside, they had a Christmas movie playing, patio heaters, and all that kind of stuff. . Our food tasted so good! I got the roast beef sandwich, which was made with ribeye I think. The appetizers like the burrata and brussels sprouts were amazing as well. I will definitely be back the next time we are in this area. They even have a place to stay overnight and I would consider checking that out as well.

West Henly Boil Shack
7792 E US, US-290, Johnson CityEight of us met up here for the first time this evening for dinner and we really enjoyed it. The ambience is casual Texas road house with friendly service. They have plenty of parking and a full bar.
We shared a bowl of the crawfish queso to start. It comes with a basket of chips. It was super tasty!
For dinner I had the crab legs boil which came with a generous portion of legs, 2 sausage pieces, 2 corn on the cob pieces and 2 small red potatoes. It def could be enough for 2 to share. Everything was good but strangely, the corn was ice cold. I don't mean that it wasn't hot. I mean it was chilled, like they had just taken it out of the refrigerator and forgot to heat it up.
My friend got the Cajun shrimp boil. She's from Nola and was expecting it to have been boiled in Cajun spices. It was just plain boiled shrimp with no spices or flavoring at all. She did say it was fresh and cooked perfectly so she did enjoy it, but was disappointed that it wasn't at all Cajun spiced. Maybe they gave her the wrong shrimp boil by mistake. Also, she received the same ice cold corn on the cob as me.
My husband had the fried shrimp basket and loved it! Two of our other friends got the blackened redfish and loved it. It looked like a beautiful dinner with a very generous portion of fish and 2 sides. Last friend got the blackened salmon plate and really enjoyed it too.
Overall we had a fun night and would definitely try it again!

Fat Boy Burgers
104 US-281, Johnson CityThe burgers here are superb. If you like greasy burgers with fresh condiments, then this is the pace for you. For the price you pay, the food quality is past expectations. Only downside is it takes awhile for the food to come out but everything is made fresh.

Pecan Street Brewing
Avenue, 106 E Pecan Dr, Johnson CityAlways good food, good beer and good time. Sunday night's are the best with the Lost Sounds of a Texas Honky Tonk. May 2018
Ditto my comments from last year. April 2019
Service had trouble keeping up with the size of the crowd. The bill was messed up among our group, but they fixed it. The pizza had an off flavor (maybe the cheese?). Lost Sounds of a Texas Honky Tonk was great as always. May 2019
Tried the Fried Chicken. It was good and came with a bowl of gravy, but it can't hold a candle to their Pecan Sweet Chicken.
It is peach season so they have lots of peach drinks. The Texas Peach Tea is delicious. The hoppiness of the Peach Kolsch overpowered any impact from peaches. The Rye Peach was just a sweet whiskey drink. - July 2021
It's been a while since I've updated my review because everything has always been consistently good and I didn't have much to add. With our latest visit there have been some noteworthy changes.
First, they now have printed menus! They had gone to scan codes taking you to a web-based menu that provided limited visibility and required lots of scrolling and navigation through links. Thanks for giving us printed menus that make it quicker and easier to make selections!
Second, they have added some new menu items. My friend and I decided to try the Fish and Chips. I have had Fish and Chips countless times in countless restaurants and I have to say that this was the worst. The fish had a huge, heavy, doughy breading that had little flavor and left little room for the fish. The slaw had a unique and good savory flavor, but was way too spicy hot to be able to eat. I hope they can fix these things. It would be nice to have Fish and Chips as a option here.
On another note, another friend had the Chicken Fried Chicken. I've had their chicken fried many times and always liked it. This fiend said that the breading was now spicy and distracting from the taste. I hope they haven't changed their tried and proven recipe on this. - November 2024
