We had a lovely two night stay in the Diamond Bessie room! The king bed has a canopy. The room includes a sun room with a view of the courtyard. We enjoyed coffee there in the morning. I borrowed both a hair dryer and an iron from the front desk. Parking was directly in front of the hotel. Close enough to walk everyone in the downtown area.

I love the history this little place preserves as the oldest "continuously operated" hotel in Texas. It's well kept and clean. I mainly wanted to stay here for that AND all the ghost stories I've heard, but personally don't believe in. To that end, I give bonus points for whatever turned our lamp off while we were watching TV. Yeah, that was kinda cool LoL. We were in room 206 which I'm not sure has any historical or ghostly significance btw.
Rooms: Small but comfortable and the beds aren't bad. Bathrooms were modernized (or should I say added?) but that's better than bathing in a basin and going out to potty.
Nearby activities: Plenty antique shops and all kinds of restaurants within walking distance.
Walkability: Everything is in walking distance.
Food & drinks: All kinds

We had a wonderful experience, but short visit because of deteriorating weather. Beautiful room, great service, but need to give instructions on how to work the heater!Rooms: Very nice. Clean.Nearby activities: Close to great dining and Jay Gould's Train Car, which was the whole purpose of our trip! Nice shopping in downtown stores.

The oldest hotel in Texas. We stayed in the Diamond Bessie suite, the only suite they have. This is not a bad thing, as the rooms are very well kept and have that historic feel. The Diamond Bessie room is AWESOME. A large 4 post bed, plenty of room for unpacking. A modern, well equipped, and stocked bathroom. The sun room has a large TV, a daybed and windows. From here, it opens out to the beautiful court yard. The Excelsior is centrally located to anywhere in Jefferson you would like to go. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. This is THE PLACE to stay when in Jefferson.Rooms: Clean comfortable, very historic feel, ambiance. Loved it.Nearby activities: Close to everything!Safety: Very safe, very well monitoredWalkability: Centrally located to just about everything

Stayed over night in room 104. Very nice and clean room. Great friendly people. Wonderful breakfast! It’s within walking distance of the shops. We will be back soon I hope!

Had a lovely time celebrating my anniversary with my wife. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, although the extra blanket on the bed was a little too warm for my liking. Breakfast was very good. And most of all, the historic atmosphere of the building is really cool. It's like stepping back in time 150 years.

Well preserved atmosphere. Expect the "historic" experience, and you will not be disappointed. Very nice optional breakfast, so definitely do that.

I would have given 5 stars. We enjoyed everything about our stay except the inter action I had with staff Sunday morning at breakfast. They seemed angry. The breakfast itself is not worth it. With all the empty tables they sat everyone at the same table and it was cramped. The eggs are instant and the pasteries are about the size of a quarter. None of the 5 couples ate much. Stay at the hotel skip the breakfast. Reply to hotel. They were watery and that's instant. Going by your outrageous reply I'm changing my rating to 1 star. Address the fact there was plenty of seating yet we were all crammed in one table or the staff on Sunday being less than welcoming. Take criticism well instead of calling someone names. This historic hotel needs a PR department.
Food & drinks: Skip the breakfast.

Service and history is fabulous. The beds are very uncomfortable, must be the original mattress, and the room smelled of cat urine.
