As a small business family-owned business owner, I was initially attracted to Molen & Associates as a home grown business that has been around for a long time. During the initial free consolation call they answered many of my questions and concerns which had caused me trouble with a past CPA firm.
My experience with our prior CPA firm was very poor communication, charged us a premium for them working over the weekend to meet a filing deadline.
I was relieved to see Molen & Associates worked nights and weekends and didn't charge me any premium - it's just part of the business, they say. I really appreciated that!
Molen & Associates has a team - each have a role in the process. I was informed of the process up front, who the roles & responsibilities were, and when and what was due. It was all very clear. They made phone calls to remind me of what they were waiting on, and to give status updates. It was because of this that I did not procrastinate too long to get my documents submitted!
Kathy worked closely with us to finalize our return and she is very knowledgeable of the current tax laws and the hot topics that may pertain to us. She communicated with me via email and phone call regularly.
The communication methods is really important to inquire about when choosing your CPA. Other CPA firms prefer to communicate through a portal, and I found that inefficient and cumbersome.
Molen & Associates is where it's at!

Not the same tax office that Ward Molen started. We had a terrible experience this last year and will not be returning. We also just got a letter from them of a data breach where my personal information could have been compromised.

We have used Molen for our taxes for 25+ years. Ward is great!! He is very knowledgeable and knows his stuff!!! I always trust his advice. He responds to my questions in a timely manner and they charge a fair price for doing my taxes. I can sleep well at night knowing that Ward did my taxes correctly and that I do not need to fear the IRS.

I've used Molen for several years now and this year will be my last. In the past I had a relationship with my tax advisor, we would meet and go through everything in person. Charles would ask tons of questions that ended up saving me money in the long run. However, now everything is just done over the phone and that sense of customer service is lost. Now they just quickly read through all the numbers on your completed return over the phone. With out having it in front of you to follow along as they go over it it's nearly impossible to understand.
I paid an extra $100 to have a rush on completing my return. They were very quick about assigning it to an advisor who had all of my documents already. Unfortunately, this new advisor just completely forgot to file two child/dependent-related forms. I reviewed the return on my own after paying the full amount and recognized that he had completely missed two huge items that ended up bring my owed amount down nearly $4,000. I'm glad I didn't just trust that it was one correctly the first time. When I asked about the oversight the excuse was that those numbers were just entered into the wrong box so they didn't populate. Not acceptable. Their services are not worth the money.
