Volunteering was a great experience! Much larger than I expected. Friendly staff! Clean areas and bathrooms. Lockers to hold your personal belongings. Free water & Ice tea. There is also food and drinks to purchase. If working the assembly line, for packing boxes please be prepared for a lot of bending over & reaching. They play music to keep it lively. Dress with comfortable tennis shoes, and if you have any issues, bring what you need to accommodate you, like neck fan because it does get hot in warehouse and back support belt.
My only suggestion for staff is that they place a table, or shelf behind the assembly line where food to be packaged would go be because the area is quite small to be bending/squatting down each time, and if the products were waist height, access and flow of production would move more efficiently.
Looking forward to volunteering again!!!

Truckers
You have to park in the street and walk in. Only so many trucks will fit in the street. Receiving will play games with your times. They called me and gave me a door after I was unloaded and had already left. How retarted!
Horseplaing staff. Staff watching truckers backing and passing judgment on drivers. This place blows! They need to get rid of their child like, game playing staff.

I was at the senior box food distribution today at Hiram Clarke service center. The staff appeared to have had some snags in their ability to process and distribute the boxes, but despite that, the two people working there were good natured, and a credit to the food bank in a very positive way. If all staff at organizations and businesses would have that positive attitude, there would be a lot less discontent among people or groups they serve. I do not know who the two women were, one inside the bldg and one outside loading, but they have my vote for positive and persistent effort and should be recognized for that. Thank you for your efforts!

It's the baddest company I've ever been in. Very despotic women, I wouldn't come again.

This is a great place to volunteer and serve the Houston community. During my last visit, we packed food boxes for senior citizens. It was such a wholesome experience and the staff was so helpful. They have food and water available for purchase if needed, as well as water and iced tea for free to hydrate in between shifts.
This place remains packed with volunteers, but they organize it very well so that the whole experience is seamless. Please note, they will not allow any purses or bags past the check-in area, but have conveniently located lockers for you to store them in.

My children and I have volunteered at the Houston Food Bank for a few years now. The staff there is always welcoming and ready for our help. The tasks are kid friendly, they provide drinks during breaks and a small locker is available for your belongings.
Thank you Houston Food Bank for all that you do!

The receptionist gets a 1star for bad attitude. I had read a few reviews about people having a bad inter action with her. And I was hoping that management would have spoken to this individual and she would have straightened up but that was too much like right. I checked in( now Grant it u have to park on the street because they have no room on their lot) and traffic is busy on that street.
She tells me I will call u when we get a door so write ur number down? And she's pointing her pen from behind that plexiglass,so I look behind to see wats she's pointing at...
She's not saying a word as if a cat has got her tongue, just pointing and staring....so I finally say what? She finally saids don't u see that sticky pad ? Now Grant it sticky pads are about 1inch in diameter not big at all...but it's at the corner of that plexiglass.
I told her why u couldn't just say that instead of pointing? Sir have a nice day! I said nah u have a nice day! Basically un called for. Needs to check that attitude at the door... otherwise I got unloaded in 40minutes
