Possibly the worst experience I have ever had in my life. Johari, has got to be the rudest stylist I have ever had in my hair. She is unprofessional, inpatient and overpriced. I paid $1250 to be treated like trash. I have had so many experiences in hair salons, having my hair braided and the like, but this was one that almost changed my outlook for the future. In July of 2019, I met with Johari for a Sisterlock consultation. She seemed to be fixated on the expense, and stressed that it was an "expensive style" and I should reconsider if I didn't "have the money." I am not sure if she judged me prematurely, but I let it go and didn't give it much thought, figuring that maybe this was typical practice considering many may change their minds quite frequently due to the high costs. She didn't rub me as friendly at the time, but I wasn't look for a friend, I looked at her previous work and decided I would proceed with her. Her proximity and what seemed like solid work sold me. The day of install, Johari was a totally different person. She had a very standoffish demeanor and on many occasional spoke to me in a nearly confrontational way when I asked questions or asked to use the restroom. I am not use to this type of treatment at all, if anything, I hold many elite standings and I am accustomed to be treated exceptionally. It made me a uncomfortable. At a point, I expressed that the style felt very painful for me and asked that she not tighten to the last rotation, to this she took immediate offense and spat: "this is what you chose!" I was shocked. This is what I chose? Was she punishing me? She continued to part my hair and interlock each section callously. Again, I have braiding experience and a young tender headed daughter, I am no stylist myself but I know what it looks like to make attempts to be more gentle. When I asked what she does for her other tender headed clients she replied, "I usually ask them to leave and find someone else who can do their hair without hurting them." I really wish she had displayed this angry side on our consultation. How can a HAIR STYLIST lack empathy towards her client? It was almost as though she had little experience with different types of heads. Well, I found out she was only recently certified in June of 2019, so quiet frankly she has little experience with different types of heads. Throughout my install she would eat chips and return to my head without washing her hands. She dropped the tool several times, even having to shift her dresser to obtain it, and put it back in my head without sanitizing it. At this point, I was scared to say anything because she had already snapped at me for asking her to raise her chair because my neck was strained. She was watching a movie on the TV and angrily turn it off when I shifted to look at the screen, then blasted a podcast on her phone so loud that I couldn't think straight. She rushed through my install and on completing the last lock says: "You will have to find someone else to do your re-tightening." When I ask why, she states the reasons being that I am tenderheaded and she doesn't like people telling her how to do her job (referring to when I asked if she could raise her chair when my neck was badly strained.) She then says, "we didn't mesh." As a professional myself, I was stunned to be in this situation. However, later I asked Johari to at least refund me for the retightening session I had paid for in advance with the package. Since she had dismissed me for personal reasons, then I only see it right she refund me for the service I will have to have done somewhere else. She refused, stating: "[She] is a professional and had the right to change her mind." and gave me times I could schedule an appointment. Johari is truly an expert at her craft. I came to her having never worn extensions as I transition to natural. Her prices are reasonable and she is QUICK. I am always surprised at how efficiently she moves clients out her chair. EVERYONE thinks this is my own hair! That is how precise she is and how well she blends it. I highly recommend her.
