A really nice golf course. Hill country scenic. Staff was very friendly and helpful. My favorite of their 3 resort courses.

I write this review mainly for the Slick Rock Grill restaurant. It's a casual yet well-kept cafe that has one of the best burgers. The decor is non-existent, but is more ergonomic for dining rather than decorative. The service might have a slight wait, but it's worth every minute. They are known for their Slick Rock Burger; a delicious item that pleases golfers, tourists, etc. It has a nice presentation that seems timeless, and could be seen now or 60 years before. I ordered the Slick Rock Burger, and it tasted delicious and filling. The burger came with a side of fries that were well- seasoned, and a kosher pickle. I give Slick Rock a 3.5 because it makes up it's quality with it's cusine.

Honest opinion coming - I was expecting for these prices to encounter a gem of a course. The fairways were good, tee boxes were good, but starter and greens were not the best. We had to wait on almost every tee box because of the wedding party in front of us, which was fine because they were a good group of fellows but when we finished 9 and headed straight for 10 the starter asked us to speed up. Does that include hitting into the group in front of us or not? He said I’m just asking for y’all to speed up, didn’t make sense with 4 groups in a row. Second, all the greens were beat up with pitch marks. Possibly residents, players, whatever but trying to putt with 10 old pitch marks in your line is pretty rough. Cost was @ $185 per players. If it means anything, the restaurants and bars to watch college football were nice!

For a resort course, with $$$ green fees, it was a disappointment. Course is in pretty good shape for late October. The problem is that ease of play for a tourist who has never played the course is a zero. I expect a resort course to have GPS carts. NOPE. If that is missing, then the card itself should have hole layouts and yardages. NOPE. I would have to pay an additional $10 for a nifty pocket map.The tee markers are also difficult. All are flat punched iron (brown) in the logo shape, with little holes to differentiate tee from tee. Very hard to see from a distance if you are not playing from championship.Cards also noted that there would be short tees ( youth or senior ladies). We were playing with two 75 year olds . Those tees existed on the front nine but not the back. She was very disappointed.Staff was very friendly, but I can still only give 3 stars.

Horseshoe Bay is beginning to look very tired and run down - especially the Slick Rock area. The course is ok, but homes along the course are looking very rough, junky and unkept. If Slick Rock is a reflection of Horseshoe Bay, then it’s prices and reputation are undeserved.
