I would like to say my mom and I experience with hickory creek animal shelter was very disappointing. First off these dogs were never left, we took them back to our house and brushed them and gave them a bath. Unfortunately they dug under our fence in the middle of the night and got out. We have tried to work with the animal shelter but it’s been nearly impossible, you have to be a special person for them to answer the phone or the door, the door is never unlocked and they never let you come in, which makes me wonder what’s actually going on behind the doors. An animal shelter should be a welcoming place for people to find their forever dog, but not sure how any animals get rescued from this shelter. I hope our experience is not the norm. But I would hate for an animal to not find their forever home because of the staff.

Although we haven’t adopted a pet from the shelter, I’d like to thank them for allowing North Texas Police K-9 teams to train here. I have a LOT of family friends that are part of various K-9 teams that train here and it’s really nice of you guys!

This truly is a "Small Shelter with a Big Heart". I have been helping out at the shelter for five years and love spending time with the animals and the staff. The staff is very professional and always puts the animals first. Please come over and check out the great dogs and cats. Adopt don't shop.

I’ve volunteered here for 5 years. Great place to serve… loving on animals and helping staff with routine daily cleaning. The ACO’s are skilled, professional and VERY compassionate towards animal needs. They serve our community and above all, they serve the animals. HCAS is a place of peace & kindness for as long as they are in our care. ??⭐️

Simply was inquiring about finding a shelter for this nice cat I found. The receptionist or lady on the phone has some serious tone of voice issues. Very rude, hope she isn’t around the animals.

I called this establishment regarding an adoption inquiry after not hearing back from them via email. The receptionist was very rude, and would not give me the time of day due to “not having owned a Dutch Shepherd,” even though I am an experienced long-term foster parent for this specific breed, and am well versed in training them. The phone call was less than 5 minutes because she cut me off. She stated that fostering is much easier than owning. However, being a foster parent meant that I was on the front lines potty training, obedience training, and nursing Dutch Shepherds back to health prior to them even being eligible for adoption.I understand shelters have their own policies to protect their animals, and appreciate all employee’s hard work to do so. However, that is no excuse to be unprofessional, disrespectful, and belittling.

Would not recommend this shelter! I am new to the area and tried to take a cat that was caught in a trap ! The trap was for a skunk ! Since I did not have a hickory creek address they would not serve me the problem is they did not have to serve me it was in the best interest of the cat i was told I could dispose of the cat how ever I wanted! That broke my Heart to know they are willing to turn away a life like that ! Shame on you Hickory creek shelter!

The lady that brought in the dogs was very sweet! She had just brought in to strays and said that we could look at them if we would like and spend time with them. You do have to make an appointment to visit and adopt the dogs and you can bring in your animals to see if they get along well before adopting.

One great volunteer, otherwise no one particularly helpful. Good facility, plenty of room for dog outside.Had to insist they give me the name of the vet who was doing intake. Told "You don't need that, they will call you." The dog I was adopting was by itself during fireworks, although my sister and myself were by several times while I waited for clearance and we would have happily stayed with her. Acted like I was a little strange to want the dog's name on the papers rather than the one the staff chose. I would have liked for one staff member to say something positive, like 'Looks like you have a wonderful dog there (which I do)." Vet's office not well-organized, although the staff was very nice and the office manager saw that mistakes were corrected. I like to support locally, so unfortunate experience.

My husband and I got our best friend from this shelter almost 5 years ago. We are so grateful for the wonderful staff taking care of our fur baby before we found him. His name was Stitch but he goes by Rock now. Thank you Alyssa!
