A $500 charge was added to my credit card hours after I returned the car. When I received the final receipt (I had to go online aftermy trip to get it) the charge says Outside Wash. The company I work for sends hundreds of people each year in that area and have Hertz as a preferred car rental. Not anymore if I show them this practice in the Harlingen office.Update to my review:They are telling me now when contacting the office they said the car smelled like smoke and there saw evidence of ashes. Of course there is no physical proof to show me. I know it is not true as I always vacuum rental cars before leaving South Padre Island since there is sand everywhere. And I do not smoke in the cars. My guess.....they have incentives or quotas for revenue and they tack on these charges to pad the amount. I guess I need to forward this issue on to better business or a state office to look into since customer service at Hertz corporate call in will not help and calling directly to the site gets transferred to corporate anyway.

Very poor service and CHARGED TRIPLE THE QUOTED RATE after vehicle problems. I originally rented a vehicle from the Brownsville location. The vehicle completely stopped working on the 1st day and I was towed to the Harlingen location and provided a replacement rental vehicle. I returned the vehicle back to Harlingen as discussed with their Roadside Assistance team. When I received my email bill, I was charged triple the rate. Multiple calls and Month later, they offered only a small final adjustment. So still overcharged nearly $250, half my day wasted during the trip, and hours on the phone.

The purpose of reviews is to help & prevent others from having a nightmare of an experience.Here I leave my experience for company to review and you the reader looking to rent a car.we are arriving to Harlingen for a couple of days. The rush of people in the airport and long lines to get our car.. Common.I received key, inspection report -with no damages. YAY!Arrive to car... damages to door. Car is not cleaned. And its smelly. Hold Up!Return to the counter, 2 people -one has a long line and the manager has a horrible attitude. Insisting the car was washed and inspected. Speaking over me. No Customer Service Etiquette. Is she really the manager... ?Fair warning ..DO NOT RENT YOUR CAR FROM THIS LOCATION.

We were provided the wrong contract and didn’t sign when it was the wrong name but she already charged us for over $500 (was refunded). The hertz clerk then assigned the car from the wrong contract. We paid for a larger vehicle, Hertz is a mess - will avoid in the future.

I had a Very Bad Experience with @Hertz located in the airport of Harlingen Texas while traveling to RGV Texas.I am a provider in the Texas Medical Center - traveling twice a month representing rendering medical services. Arriving in the evening, like we had been for the last year, approached counter, got our keys and headed to the parking lot.This particular evening the medical team and I were a bit tired so, we inspected the car from the outside.. opened doors and you can tell the car was not very clean and had a smell of cigarette. Honestly, we didn't think much of it. We thought HERTZ did their best in cleaning the car. So we drove off.Returned the NEXT DAY, arrived to airport, dropped off car and flew back to Houston. Only to discover a $500 charge on my card- ironically the fee was HERTZ charging me for the "cigarette smell." Called HERTZ, Wrote to HERTZ --- Explained I am a preferred customer, I am a provider.. Its been over a month an there is no call back from the MANAGER OR THE OWNER.The manager never made an effort to report my complaint, as I discovered 5 days later there was no incident report filed with HERTZ. When I called the manager she got very defensive and rude.To this day, no one has contact me... I will voice this thru every social network until someone does.Best Regards,SA

This place is a HERTZ franchisee with poor management.The management team there do not care about their customers, Hertz Preferred or Not.The owner / manager does not respond emails or calls -- make sure you inspect your car for everything. And I mean anything and everything. These location in the Airport of Harlingen give HERTZ a bad name. Long time customer of Hertz ---- not giving this location my business again.

If Google would allow - I’d give no stars.So I will do ONE and then say, STAY far away from this place.They will add charges to your card that don’t belong to you. And you will never see the end.The female manager is horrible and very unprofessional- seldom do I call out bad service but this place took it to another level with disappointing service.And if the owner of this place reads this message- kindly provide me with your email. Disappointing Changes at Hertz! Our family has rented from Harlingen Aiport (VIA) Hertz for DECADES. What used to be a pleasant greeting to the Valley has morphed into an ongoing, nightmare rental experience, due to the Hertz counter staff, in EACH rental since COVID. The once great staff seems to be retired, or sitting at other car rental counters. Even at President’s level, we are going with a different rental company now.

I rented a car from 4/20 to 4/23/23. I returned the car on time AND spoke to a representative at the counter. The car was checked in 9 days later and I was charged $859. Hertz has been useless so far in resolving the problem.

It started out I had to wait 15 minutes for them to get me a car. Then once I got out to the parking lot it was a beat up Malibu with 20 some thousand miles on it. After getting everything in and leaving I could notice it did have a smoke odor. Well low and behold after I turn it the next day I get a 500.00 dollar charge for a outside cleaning fee. I wouldnt even have noticed it until I looked at my credit card they never sent no reciept. So when I call about this they tell me to call the 1 800 number to find out what it is for. Then when you call them they say its for smoking but the can't do anything because the location put it on. Then when you call the location the say they can't do anything either. If I would have smoked in the car I could understand but I did not. I had the car for 4 days and was in it for a total of 2 hours driving it from the airport to the hotel and back to the airport 90 miles total. So all i can say is beware because this place is just out to make a buck. I definetly will be reporting every little thing from now on.

The manager at this location is amazing, she has great customer service and people skills very respectful and knowledgeable, helped me resolve an issue with a rental in Oklahoma. I would recommend this location

Management should review calls today and coach Griselda. She was extremely unprofessional and aggressive when there was no need to be. We rented at the McAllen location and they were short inventory so the staff called Harlingen to see if we could pick up vehicle there and honor pricing and Griselda made it clear she didn’t have to rent to us and that she didn’t have to honor pricing. No manager was available. Your McAllen Employee was even shocked by Griselda’s behavior. McAllen employee ended up contacting supervisors to assist as Harlingen Rep Griselda was so rude.

3 weeks ago I reserved and pre-paid for a vehicle at the Hertz at Harlingen airport. When My flight arrived, I was told there were no cars available but that they would clean one for me. However there was also one customer ahead of me also waiting for a reserved vehicle. After 30 minutes, the agent informed the customer ahead of me that a vehicle had been cleaned for her but it needed an oil change so she would get the next car that would be cleaned. This was the car that I was waiting on. So here I am, an hour after my flight landed, still waiting on a vehicle, as is the customer who was ahead of me. Isn’t the point of a reservation to insure that a vehicle will be ready for me when I arrive? Did no one at this Hertz location look at the reservations needed for the customers who would be expected? Very poor customer service. Very, very poor management.

They seriously tried to force me to take a car that smelled like vomit. I was told “you rented a compact and that’s the only one we have” and it reeked of vomit. No offer of an alternative whereas Enterprise sometimes upgrades me just for fun. They even knew it smelled, the counter lady told me “we cleaned it twice”. Ok well that wasn’t enough and it’s highly unethical to force someone to take a defective product that you didn’t warn them about. We canceled our reservation, went over to Avis and ended up paying twice as much but I will never rent a car from Hertz again.Edit: I was provided a refund after contacting their mainline so that's something.
