The Hood County Jail and Historical Museum was such a great find! It was surprisingly dog friendly, although we held our little terriers most of the tour. The docents there are very knowledgeable and passionate about the Jail history and the history of Hood County. Upstairs has the jail holding areas, and downstairs has the old sheriff's quarters. There is also a few rooms that are dedicated more to Hood County history and have a museum feel to it. Our docent was super friendly and also took us over to see the historical cabin a few doors down. Highly recommended for any history buff!

I hope that this place stays open for years to come i hope they get funding to be able to stay open its sad that the county can't help preserve history that our kids need to know about

We had the best tour, and best tour guide. It was so interesting to see how it was long ago. It would be best if you didn't get arrested back in the day...LOL

Previous jail where inmates serving up to 6 months was locked-up upstairs and the sheriff and his family lived downstairs. The jail is in its original condition with wall carving notes. Stale and dank air lends to an eerie feeling of "if these walls could talk." Downstairs is more of a museum with unique items. This museum is right off the main square and costs $5.00 (cash, please) to enter. Worth a little travel back in time.

It was insane to see the cells they use to have inmates stay in. So creepy and claustrophobic! The list of the women who had been put there. The carvings into the stone in the women’s cell was also creepy and crazy to see. Lots of history in such a small area. 10/10 recommend.

This was the highlight of my time in Granbury! This was so much more than A historic jail museum: every square inch was full of artifacts, photographs, relics, articles, and stories about this quaint little town’s past. The historians were very knowledgeable and excited to share information. It is a definite must-see (along with the log cabin next door) if you are in the area.

The jail is amazing. I haven’t seen a jail like it. The tour guides were very knowledgeable in the history of the county. If you like history then there is lots to read and see in this museum. If history doesn’t interest you then I would still go just to see the upstairs jail because it is very unique. There are also lots of ghost stories associated with the building. You could possible run into one of these ghost when you are there.

Had a great time here! The staff was informative and we really learned a lot about the history of Hood County looking over all their collection inside. It's hard to believe that this place was still serving as the county jail all the way up to '78! The upstairs (jail) section has a really cold and lonely feel to it, almost overwhelmingly sad. This place is cash only! Throw them a little extra cash, I'm sure they will really appreciate the help.
