CarMax is doing very well. Good system in place. One can spot a few CarMax decals or sticker signs on cars on the road. People buy the CarMax concept because they are avoiding the salesman & haggling process.

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint against CarMax located in Garland, Texas, at 12715 Lyndon B Johnson Fwy, Garland, TX 75041. I believe I was racially profiled and subjected to discriminatory treatment during my visit on June 27, 2024.
I had reserved a vehicle for a test drive at CarMax Garland on June 26, 2024, for the following day at 11:30 am. I arrived approximately 30 minutes early, checked in, and was informed by the staff that they were extremely busy, and I might have to wait for an hour. I was agreeable to this wait time.
CarMax’s website states that customers can take a test drive for 24 hours, provided they have a valid insurance policy with comprehensive and collision coverage. There was no mention on the website of a specific deductible amount required. I purchased an insurance policy that met these conditions and presented the documents to the sales representative assisting me. The sales representative took the documents to his sales manager, Garrett, who then insisted that I needed to change the coverage to full coverage with a $1,000 deductible.
I complied with this request and had my insurance policy updated accordingly. Despite this, Garrett continued to create unnecessary hurdles, including questioning the insurance company about unrelated matters. Ultimately, Garrett falsely claimed that the insurance company could not guarantee coverage if the car was involved in an accident, despite my verification that the policy was valid upon purchase.
When I asked Garrett to show me where on CarMax’s website these additional requirements were listed, he failed to provide any evidence or print out the policy. Instead, he rudely insisted that I could only test drive the vehicle for 20 minutes, contradicting the 24-hour policy advertised.
Garrett's unprofessional behavior included storming off mid-conversation and not returning to address the issue. Tom, the general manager, approached me, instructing me to hang up on my call with the insurance company and apologizing for Garrett instead of addressing my concerns. Garrett continued to watch me from a distance, furthering my feeling of being unwelcome and racially profiled as a black man.
I spent over three hours at CarMax, despite having a reservation, solely because I believe I was racially profiled and treated with disrespect. The treatment I received from Garrett was discriminatory and unprofessional. CarMax must address Garrett's conduct and ensure that no other potential customers experience such mistreatment and discrimination.
I request that your offices investigate this matter and take appropriate action to prevent any recurrence of such behavior. I believe this matter warrants serious attention to uphold the principles of fairness and equality.

Since my last review was deleted for some reason, i will leave another. You guys have done some really bad business. I ordered a car and waited 10 days for it. Just for it to arrive and you said it had a lot more miles than listed and you have to retitle and cannot sell to me. I passed on other cars just to wait for this. Terrible business and customer relations. You only refunded my transfer fee and said sorry. Then you commented and said to email or call to make it right. Well, I emailed and NO RESPONSE> Then, magically my review was deleted......

Beware of online photos. They are manipulative (incredibly). Once they know you want a car (esp if you're paying out right) they put in the absolute minimum to explain the details/and or the process. This store definitely isn't representative of the car max I dealt with ten years ago, but we were in an emergency vehicle situation. What should have been done in a day, took almost two days with tons stress. This shouldn't be the case with an outright process of purchase price with a 3k car max warranty. Luckily I eventually hit an employee that wasn't at this physical location and was able to get management on board, but they don't value the customer. I was calm cool and collected, but they didn't have any answers to the important questions. If it weren't for time sensitivity, we wouldn't have purchased the car. I will add photos of online representation vs. reality as so as possible.

The buying process was quick and easy. Roger helped us out and got us into the vehicle we wanted without any hiccups.
The trade process was also quick and easy, even though I think I could of gotten more for my trade.
The key fob wasn't working and I brought it in the following day and Hallier (i think that was his name) took care of me, free of charge.
One of the best and quickest Dealership experiences I've ever had.

Do not buy a car here. They will sell you a problematic vehicle and claim to fix it and give it back to you with issues.

Offered us 5k for my car and then claimed there was an engine noise that no one could hear but the purchasing rep so they reduced the offer to $2,200. Claimed that it was a timing chain issue that would cost between 2 & 4k to fix so I called my mechanic who said worst case scenario would be a maximum of $1,500.
Took it to Give Me the VIN who offered us 3k sight unseen and paid 3k when we got there. The process at CarMax took around 3 hours (without even getting to the end of it), the process at GMtV took about 20 minutes. I will never do business with CarMax again!
