Most of the staff is very kind and helpful, but their director, Josh, was incredibly rude, impatient, and dismissive as he was incredibly quick to insult me and very hesitant to do any actual work

I had been told multiple times because i had adopted multiple animals from them that there is a no hold policy. I go get a cat that was apparently popular on their site named Aslan and all of a sudden they can do holds. The woman who answers the phone is extremely rude and tries to talk over everyone. This is the first time in i dont know how many years of dealing with them. If you are gonna have a hold policy then you need to make it official

What a wonderful place, I took in a overdoor cat tree that my two big lads won't fit and was immediately offered a donation receipt. Then the lady went off to find seasalt, once in the adoption room the lady gave me all the information on seasalt including he had just had to have a tooth removed. I am now home day two and there is hissing between the three but no batting!!! Those people at galceston island humane society do a job that I am too much of a coward to do. Bless them

GiHS is such a big help just yesterday 7-18 i went in with questions and hopes that GIHS could help me in regards to a stray cat that made herself at home…. there were some issues that needed attention with keeping the cat. Tish (i believe was the lady’s name apologies) was on it!! she had all the information/help i needed, even loan me a crate to transport the stay cat. I left feeling so much better and relieved. GIHS has so much to offer just ask i had no idea. We will adopt the stray. THANK YOU GIHS!! YOU ROCK

I came into this shelter because I found two kittens zipped up in a bag by a dumpster in my town. This shelter is closer to me than the Galveston County one. The woman behind the counter glanced behind her computer and barked out "name?" rudely. I told her I'm bringing in strays and before I could finish my sentence, she asked me where I found them, as in what city, and I told her. She told me that they couldn't take them because they weren't found in Galveston, which I found odd. I didn't think it would matter where the animals are found. Fine, I'll just wait till tomorrow till the county shelter are open. I took a moment to weigh my options and during this time she huffed loudly as if I was bothering her so much. I couldn't believe the attitude from her. I will not be donating to this shelter either because if this is how she treats people I can only imagine how she treats the animals.

Up until recently I donated and supported this humane society.im terminally ill and also gave a fractured hip my husband also died the same week.for reasons beyond my control I had no alternative but to relinquish my emotional support dog of 12 years to GIHS I kept up with him on the website daily.finally a lady with a female dog the same breed as my boy boi was looking for a playmate so I phoned to arrange a meeting be setup for possible adoption only to be told boyboi was no longer at the shelter! When I inquired as to his whereabouts of transfer and why I was not given an answer I was told we have no information here on that dog like he had vanished.i was livid by this point because there is no prior notification of this or possibilty of transfers when you are trying to find these dogs homes! I am worried sick about this dog and I see nothing wrong as to disclosing it least where or why an animal would be transfered to wether it's over populated or not he was the only dog there done this waya, and why? Why my dog? Or was my dog I had someone very suitable who wanted him

I’ve had experiences with the Galveston Humane society twice and BOTH times the older lady with the dark hair has been extremely rude. The first it was about adopting a cat —AND volunteering —she acted as if it was a hassle that I had questions. A hassle to look at the animals. Today she literally yelled at me; after I showed up early for the spay and neuter day. I said good morning and she Rudely asked what I needed, then when I told her she asked my name and said that she didn’t accept my application because I filled it out yesterday. I never got an email or anything stating that it wasn’t accepted. I was the first and only person there at 7:00 AM because it said first come first serve.
It’s really hurtful and embarrassing to have someone be so rude when I was extremely polite. The first experience there I didn’t even want to adopt anymore cause the woman was THAT RUDE. I imagine that’s the kind of service people are use to giving here in Galveston ? Forbid I show up early and on time to something…they were running late so I assume that’s why the lady was annoyed with me?! Who knows… everyone else can claim that place is pleasant but I am going to state the truth: more animals probably could get adopted if they weren’t so rude. The people that were With her are just as bad because honestly it’s never okay to just let a person get treated like crap….

I have been a foster here for a couple of years and never had a bad experience with anyone or any animals. I would highly recommend both adopting or fostering from here.
