“Review: The Proletariat & Public House: A Sober Haven with a Coffee TwistAs a seven-year sober individual, finding a place that caters to a variety of tastes can be challenging. However, The Proletariat & Public House in Galveston has managed to create a unique and inviting space that appeals to both those seeking a vibrant social scene and those who prefer to enjoy a caffeine fix.One of the standout features of The Proletariat is their exceptional coffee selection. Despite the presence of wine, champagne, and other alcoholic beverages, their dedication to crafting exquisite coffees is evident. Whether you're a fan of a classic espresso or prefer a specialty brew, their coffee shines with its rich flavors and expert preparation. It's refreshing to find a place that recognizes the value of a well-crafted cup of joe, even in an environment that offers other tempting libations. The interior of The Proletariat is a sight to behold. With its sophisticated ambiance, it manages to strike a delicate balance between a coffeehouse and a bar. The attention to detail in the design creates an atmosphere that feels welcoming and comfortable, regardless of your beverage preference. For someone like me, who appreciates a tastefully designed space, The Proletariat's interior is a treat for the eyes. What sets The Proletariat apart is its diverse range of events throughout the week. From game nights to poetry nights, there's always something happening to keep patrons entertained. The inclusion of live bands playing outside on the sidewalk adds an extra layer of liveliness to the atmosphere. It's a testament to the establishment's commitment to fostering a sense of community and providing a space for people to come together.Depending on the time of day, you'll find a diverse crowd at The Proletariat. Students can be seen huddled around tables, laptops plugged into outlets conveniently placed in the middle. Some patrons are content with people-watching, while others dress up to enjoy the bar area. It's this eclectic mix of individuals that truly embodies the charm of Galveston, and The Proletariat manages to capture that essence perfectly. One notable aspect of The Proletariat is its extended operating hours. With the establishment open until midnight, it ensures that people can enjoy their favorite beverages and events well into the night. This flexibility is a welcome feature for those who want to relax and unwind after a long day or for those seeking a late-night social gathering spot.In conclusion, The Proletariat & Public House is a gem in Galveston, especially for individuals who appreciate a vibrant yet sober environment. Its dedication to exceptional coffee, combined with a well-designed interior and a diverse range of events, creates a space that appeals to a wide range of tastes. Whether you're a coffee lover, a poetry enthusiast, or simply enjoy the energy of a lively bar scene, The Proletariat is a must-visit destination.”

“Exceptional! The GAC presents thought-provoking, carefully curated, contemporary exhibitions that rival any big-city museum, and it's free! Housed in a gorgeous historic building, there are multiple gallery spaces on two floors. Classes for adults and children are taught by experienced artists in a large, light filled studio, and GAC has an outreach program that brings art out into the community for seniors and individuals with special needs . This is a true Galveston gem!”

“5.25.22 We stop in here often. When my daughters were young the owners gave my daughters tons of post cards. They thought that was really cool. (They still give free post cards) I love looking at the beautiful art work René and her daughter paint. It would look lovely in a beach house. There are other artists work on display as well.”

“Everywhere we travel our thing is to find the best art galleries, museums, and restaurants. We were delighted to find Affaire d’Art on a recent trip to Galveston. The obviously saavy curator-proprietress, Felicia, in addition to being fun and welcoming, knows her art. This is not ‘tourist-trap beach art’, but a salon-style gallery offering original paintings of every genre and medium, beautiful photography, art furniture, and jewelry. Make Afffaire d’Art a must-see stop when you visit Galveston!”
