I pulled the engine out of vehicle and took it apart to see what all was damaged and what if anything could be fixed after it one day began clacking like a diesel engine upon startup. I decided to have re installation of the pistons and crank done by Forbes since I don't have a tape measure small enough or the experience to measure "clearance". It's been there 2 months and is finally ready. However, one week after I dropped it off I was told that I had a spun main bearing and might just want to buy a new engine. I was infkrmed that they did have a 2.9 there that was ready to go for $700 and comes with warranty. This opened my eyes and made my heart sink because I felt like there's tomfoolery involved. When asked to show me the spun bearing, they could not produce one because there was not one to begin with. The guy made an attempt to show me something I could not see and that was not in the line of sight where we were standing in relation to the block laying crank side up. As for them main bearings, I have them in my posession or at least I have the ones that corresponds to the area that is supposed to be damaged. This motor had no excessive wear or deposits under the main crank bearings but Forbes wants to sell me another motor.I said no thank you and please just put this one back together. We agreed on a price that has grown 3.5 times bigger than it was to begin with. I am not entirely happy with this so I hope that the engine works as to be expected. I'll follow up later

I’ve been using Forbes for 7 years and my grandpa a very long time since the 70s. Never had a problem. Girl in the front knows her parts and what she’s talking about. Very nice in person and helps you out anyway she can. Always finds whatever part you need and gets it within 1-2 days. Prices are good and work is incredible. Never had a problem with any of my classic car motors from 235 6 cylinder, 283 small block up to 454 big block. I’ll be taking my business there until they close shop or anything happens. Which I hope never happens. I love this place. Definitely recommend going to them. The machinists are real good at their work as well

HA! WOW, young lady on the phone was crazy rude. When I called her out on her poor costumer service and said I’d be going somewhere else, she said, ‘good, we don’t want your business anyway’.What a joke. This place came recommended by a friend for some machine work, too.I don’t expect them to be open too much longer.Hope your day gets better, sister (she refused to tell me her name other than ‘Forbes’).?♂️

I have been going to Forbes since I was in High School. I am now in my sixties. The staff has always been right to the point and does not appreciate you wasting their time but they have ALWAYS fixed whatever I have brought in.

Called to get pricing on some machine work, a very rude woman answered the phone and seemed bothered by my call. She was very argumentative and insisted I did not know what I was talking about, she became irate when I asked about an align hone. I was told "there's no such thing as an align hone" and got hung up on.

I’ve rebuilt six different classic car engines with Forbes Automotive. One engine .430 MEL 1960 was unique to that year and was troublesome . Other machine shops said to junk it however,Forbes Automotive was patient and did a great job for me . They looked for 430 rare parts for 6months . My bill was a fraction of what I anticipated. I highly recommend Forbes Automotive for all engine machine work .I don’t consider them a garage as much as a high quality precision machine shop. They are a jewel of an engine builder and will save you some time and money if you will use their advice and service.
