DO NOT BOOK WITH PAYLESS/AVIS. The agent by name “Ana” took it upon herself to add car insurance when I had declined at the moment I was booking. A very nice male agent helped me discover Ana was the one to put insurance without my consent because he even said “Ana does sneaky things like that all the time”. Additionally, they fraudulently charged me $341 for windshield damage that was ALREADY THERE the moment I picked up the rental. The guy that received the car rental at the airport even asked me “what happened there?” and I also told him it was already there when I dropped off the car. I had made the damage known when I picked up the rental but the agent brushed it off so I ASSUMED and thought I could have a peace of mind thinking that they had record or pictures of the car from when the last person that caused the damage returned the rental. Days later the charge appeared. Thankfully I was able to get the charge disputed through my bank and got my money back but others may not have the same luck. Horrible agency with terrible employees ??

Unacceptable. Paying $300 for less than 48 hours of rental time and the car is missing the gas door, missing an entire windshield wiper (arm and blade), and was issued with a damaged keyfob held together by scotch tape. Why is this car being rented? It seemed perfectly acceptable to the staff that allowed me to rent it, even after I identified the issues mentioned above. I'll be returning tomorrow for a different car, after a full day of driving... I hope it doesn't rain.

Sucks - came in after long flight and 15 people waiting with only one person handling customers. And she took her own sweet time. Took over an hour to get my car. This is not the first time. I travel all over the world and El Paso is the WORST airport to get a car. You all SUCK

On 7/11/2023 I reserved a car rental thru Booking.com The website never mentioned about its required 250$ deposit until after I paid for the reservation. Next day, 7/12/2023 When i tried to pick up my car rental, I explained my situation that i couldn't cover my 250$ required deposit. They refused to rent my a car, therefore I requested my 83.61$ full refund, since they refused to rent me a vehicle. The lady at the counter tried to brush me off by sending me to Booking.com I Requested a manager and refused to leave until I spoke over the phone with manager Eli Sigala. Eli promised me that I will get a full refund in 5 business days, as he explained to me that he did approved that refund request. Obviously he lied to me, since its been 2 weeks already and I never got my refund back. That's when I decided to escalate this by contacting Better Business Bureau and possibly taking legal action against Payless Car Rental.

These people are thrives! I called the customer service and verified (prior to booking) that my bank card was an acceptable payment method. I was told that it was. So I booked a vehicle. When I arrived they declined my payment method and are refusing to refund my money!

I read the bad reviews so I was reluctant, but this was the cheapest car place and it actually turned out perfectly. They were helpful with check in/check out and everything was simple.

This has by far been my worst car rental experience. I’ve learned an important lesson and will cleave to my old (faithful but dear) car rental service provider (Enterprise).Payless is cheap but you’ll pay a steep price for not observing the fine print:1. If you don’t return the vehicle exactly on time you are charged an exorbitant hourly rate.2. No one takes the time to explain that you will be charged more than $100 hourly for a late return on a vehicle that’s priced at $34 daily. How is that even reasonable?3. If you pre-pay for gasoline but return the vehicle with a full tank, you don’t get refunded. Even though it’s promised.Billing is particularly unfair because, of all the car rental agencies, Payless has the longest queues. I had to stand in line over one hour for my rental. Nobody offered to compensate me for my time. Payless won’t even consider your inconvenience before they proceed to nickel and dime you.The vehicles are nice and clean though. The other positive experience was interfacing with the staff. Despite their having to service customers hours on end with no restroom breaks, the had the presence of mind to smile and be courteous. I appreciate them very much. It’s a pity the faceless organization that they represent does its best to tarnish the customer experience.Very seldom do I say “never again”, but Payless is forcing me to.

Worst car rental experience ever. I was in town because a relative was in the hospital. I picked the car up at night in a hurry not thinking about the car much. Over the next few days, I realize the car is filthy, like someone took this sedan off roading. A few days later the car broke down. They sent their tow truck to come get it. Now they’re calling me that I did not return their car. Huh? I call customer service, no answer. I call Avis their sister company. He says he can’t find the reservation and tells me to call Payless directly. I tried that sir. Someone calls me back from an Avis number, and asks me if I know where the car was towed. No sir. Your car, your tow truck. No idea. Then he asks do you remember what the gas tank was at. I’m no but isn’t that irrelevant as the car was broken down. I couldn’t have taken it to the gas station if I wanted to. He promptly hangs up on me.I had stopped at the rental counter on my way to my flight. She says everything is fine. They will contact you about refunding one day rental because of the inconvenience. No call. I thought all was well… not even close.
