After my last eye exam I was told I would be emailed a new prescription for eyeglasses. That prescription never arrived. I called twice to get it emailed to me. I took the prescription to Howerton Eye and ordered a new pair of glasses. When I got the glasses and put them on, everything was a blur. What? After some investigation into the matter, it was determined that Heart of Texas Eye Institute had made a significant typographical error in my prescription. It took 2 requests for Heart of Texas to issue me a copy of the corrected prescription. This simple typographical error caused me to make multiple trips to Howerton's to FINALLY get a pair of glasses with the correct prescription., multiple phone calls and lots of unnecessary expenditure of time and energy. I'm 70 years old and these mistakes, which I totally understand are simple human mistakes, can have most unwelcomed consequences.

Dr. Dudek and her team were absolutely amazing throughout the entire process. My LASIK procedure was fast, safe, professional, and I felt extremely confident with them from start to finish. I could not recommend them enough, LASIK is a no brainer.

Dr. Lisa McIntire and her staff were wonderful and my vision is better than 20/20 after getting my cataracts removed and replaced with refractive lenses! (April 2022). Dr. McIntire and her team let me know what to expect (medically and financially), and I felt very well taken care of!

I saw Dr. McIntire due to severe recurrent cornea erosions. She recommended that I get a membrane transplant which did not work but I still had to pay for it. I paid $872 for a treatment that DID NOT work, I wasn't happy about paying it, but I understood that it was a chance I took, so I paid it. Months later the office said I have a balance of $59 which any other medical office would just write off, but instead they left the balance on my account and is NOW REFUSING to release my medical records to my new optometrist. My optometrist sent a authorized letter requesting records that I signed and the person at the front desk told her that "records will not be released until this balance is paid." THIS IS NOT ALLOWED.You may not withhold medical records from the patient, the patient's authorized representative, or the patient's designated recipient for the records based on a past due account for medical care or treatment previously rendered to the patient. This Texas Medical Board rule is in line with an opinion of the American Medical Association Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs, which says that "medical reports should not be withheld because of an unpaid balance for medical services" as well as the TMA Board of Counselors position that "it is unethical for a physician to refuse or to delay improperly in responding to a valid request for transfer of a former patient's medical records because of an unpaid bill. The physician's first responsibility is the care and welfare of the patient. Other alternatives are available for the collection of fees."It's unfortunate because this review isn't in line with Dr. McIntire, who was extremely professional and knowledgeable and honestly tried her best to help my medical condition. However, the front staff needs better trained on customer care.I will be reporting this.

Dr. Dudek is not only very knowledgeable and thorough, but also cares and goes above and beyond in providing patient care! After an eye accident, we called at the end of the day in hopes of seeing a doctor, otherwise we were heading for an emergency room. Even though we’d never been seen before, she waited for us and gave a very thorough exam, diagnosed and treated the problem. Amazing and appreciated compassion for others.

Based on their reviews, I am sure this place has done a great job for others. It appears I was an exception because my experience was terrible. They gave me the complete run around. I became increasingly uncomfortable in working with them and decided to cancel my surgery and start over with a new practice.4/21 - Initial appointment for cataract - 35 plus minute wait in lobby. Doctor wants to see me for more in-depth glaucoma evaluation.5/26 Suggested Glaucoma Follow up - 1 hour wait, they acted confused of why I was there for a check up. Told me I would be dilated again, had ride waiting outside for almost 2.5 hours. No Dilatation, No Glaucoma, total waste of time.6/23 Pre-Op - 20 minutes late due to traffic - appointment canceled by office. Finally agreed to see me because I was upset and demanded to speak with office manager. Office manager is condescending when telling me I am violating HIPPA by discussing my OWN medical information in the lobby. When I challenged them on canceling my appointment after I had to wait the previous 2 appointments, I was told long waits are common in an ophthalmologist office. Felt like my time had no value and they were doing me a favor seeing me. At the end of the appointment, I was Informed I needed medical clearance from cardiologist before surgery. Surgery date set July 26th.**Surgery Date postponed due inability to get surgery clearance appointment with cardiologist before July 26th. 4th appointment required since surgery date was moved back to 8/9.8/2 Office calls demanding payment for surgery before my appointment for final clearance $3,900. Told them I would pay once surgery was cleared on 8/4 visit. Office states they have not received medical clearance from cardiologist.8/3 Call cardiologist, they resend medical clearance8/3 Surgery center calls for medical history and information. They don't share information with the ophthalmologist office, but they have my insurance card.8/3 Surgery Center Calls for payment - $3,500 for use of their facility8/3 Anesthesiologist calls - $968 for services8/3 Realize that I'm totally frustrated with this practice. $8,400 to work with someone I completely uncomfortable with does not seem right. I carry the same insurance as others in my office that have had this procedure (Alternate providers are billing much less). I decide it is time to cancel everything and move on.This is my experience and it is not consistent with many of the reviews. Just hope you don't become the exception as it is a disappointment after wasting so much time.

10 out of 5 stars, honestly. I can not fully describe the amazing experience provided by the amazing staff here! They are extremely friendly, making a nice a comfortable experience that feels like you are among family. Beyond the exceptional customer service, they are very thorough and good at what they do! From brandy when we first called in and throughout the whole process, to Ashley at the front desk, to Marisa doing my screening, and of course, Dr. Lara Dudek, and all staff I dealt with who I did not name here, me and my wife are more than fortunate to have found the best eye care staff in Texas! I will spare the details since I've already gone on enough, but what they do here is nothing short of miraculous. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Two things:The staff is amazing. Every single person cares, is happy and helpful. I have not seen customer service this good in a really long time. The results -- vision is great after a week. Better than it was with contacts. I was not expecting the change in the sharpness of objects. Trees almost appear 3D now. And my peripheral vision amazing.I'd do it again 100/100 times.

My husband and I went to see Dr. McIntire for a check-up and to get new glasses. Most of the exam was performed by a tech which took a long time. Although she was very pleasant. After she dilated our eyes, the tech went to get the doctor and the doctor had to stop and chit chat with another employee before she got to us. After a quick exam, she was gone. She didn't really say anything about what she was writing the prescription for. I already had a prescription for driving and I wear readers for up close. Dr. McIntire wrote the prescription for each of us that were for bifocals, which I didn't notice until I got home. I wasn't very happy that she didn't explain or even ask us what we wanted. I don't think we will go back to her.

Dr. McIntyre and the entire staff have impressed me with their level of skill, professionalism, and patient care. They offer the latest advancements in cutting edge SMILE LASIK and a full range of Cataract surgery lens choices to fit each patient's individual needs. The office is comfortable and the entire staff is cohesive and polite. I would recommend them to anyone looking for better vision through surgery, and for those looking for affordable options in Austin's crowded Lasik market where you can often just feel like a number. The Heart of Texas team is attentive to each person's needs and questions, and you leave feeling educated and in great hands. Thank you for everything.

The level of professionalism at this practice is amazing! I had SMILE laser eye surgery done by Dr. Dudek. She was very knowledgeable throughout the whole process and was there to answer any questions or concerns I had. Diana and the rest of the office staff are sweethearts! They truly care for their patients.
