The leadership at Denton Bible church actively covered up child abuse. It's been all over the news. Just Google it. Tommy slandered and mocked my brother in a sermon I was present at once years ago (and I did walk up to Tommy afterwards and called him out on it). This church has MANY severe issues. Tommy's brand of macho Christianity is similar to Mark Driscoll's and is far from being Christlike. There are RED FLAGS EVERYWHERE. Even though Tommy is retired now, the elders and leaders who are still there have known about and actively participated in the cover-ups for DECADES. DO NOT ATTEND THIS CHURCH.

I attended Denton Bible for almost ten years. Tommy Nelson is such an intelligent man and can explain the Bible so well. He can connect with so many different types of people with the way he teaches Gods word as well. Everyone is very welcoming. And the music is amazing! I now live in San Diego and miss Denton Bible so much!

Very few pastors can rightly divide the Word of God like Tom Nelson. Love this church.

My family moved to Denton in '06 and found community in Denton Bible Church, becoming heavily involved members. When our parents were getting divorced several years later, our father was told me was no longer welcome at this church if he could not make the marriage work. Four young, impressionable kids who all just moved out with their dad stopped going to church after that. It was definitely not the Lord's house.

I am a member of Denton Bible Church. I have attended since I was in college. It is very discouraging. Tommy jokes about how discouraging it is. He’ll say ‘ Welcome to Denton Bible’ after saying something particularly discouraging. It’s not a joke. I usually try to attend a positive church after it is over. I need encouragement but my husband loves it.

Would not wish to be anywhere else on Sunday morning. Great expositional preaching so that you leave wiser than when you entered because you understand more of what God revealed to us.

Some of your pastors don't live by what they preach... "There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?"

Love this church. I feel God here and I'm pretty sure we align with the elders. You know, the bearded men.

I attended Denton Bible Church for nearly 20 years and was a student, and then volunteer youth leader. I left this church and (and frankly, the faith) after wrestling with the issue of Rob Shiflet. Rob Shiflet was just leaving as youth pastor when I first attended the junior high youth ministry (then called "JV"), and was still a huge influence in the ministry. He had mentored, was close with, and was still highly revered by the leaders at that time and for long after. For many years I blindly trusted those leaders, and the senior pastor Tom Nelson above all.I was greatly saddened to find out that Rob Shiflet had sexually abused multiple girls my age who looked at him with the same level of trust. When the church fired him in secret for being caught multiple times alone with young girls, he was sent off in the parking lot by still adoring students and parents. Pastor Tom Nelson even went on to RECOMMEND him at his next church job in Arkansas, where he went on to prey on more underaged girls. He even later worked with students again in our area and had a private office at Liberty Christian School, which again allowed him one-on-one time with Denton Youths. Now, my former church is trying their hardest to play down the fact that they are complicit in his crimes. That's not the only such cover up at this church. There was another instance where a male volunteer youth leader I knew was caught kissing an underage male student on the mouth in the high school ministry building and was fired. A brief statement was made in a sermon, but it was kept hush hush to the outside world.Even as a nonbeliever now, I do not want churches to fail. I want people to have something to look forward to after death, and a structure and community of supportive people beside them that inspires them to goodwill, and provides children a safe haven. This church is not that safe haven, and, frankly I'm surprised that we as a society let this church continue to operate.
