I want to start off by mentioning that the onsite staff is wonderful - maintenance fixes any issues within 24 hours and the front desk staff is friendly & helpful. However, there are so many other issues that have happened repeatedly in the past few months that result in me not recommending this property. One, water has been shut off numerous times for extended periods of time during a workday (ex: 11AM-2PM on a Tuesday) for repairs due to renovations. Two, the fire alarm system has been faulty for months and getting falsely triggered. This is not only a safety hazard, but also a nuisance, especially when it goes off for an hour on a Saturday morning at 5AM or on a weekday at 10PM.Three, one of the main elevators was down for months.Additionally, last week a homeless man was found living in someones unit -- the response to this situation was a short email stating "unfortunately a homeless person had been found in an apartment."Lastly, I would like to say that the above issues are very serious and the upper management has done very little to properly address them with residents. Whenever one of these instances occurs, the response is always a short email along the lines of sorry this happened! This would maybe be valid for a one-off instance. However, given the pattern of everything mentioned above, such response is not appropriate or respectful to the residents.

My boyfriend and I just moved in 2 weeks ago. The Overall move in experience has been really great. The leasing staff is always very helpful and attentive to any questions/issues that we may have. We really enjoy living here, and are glad that we chose Cortland. I would recommend this apartment complex for anyone who is in search of a nice, safe , and dog friendly community.

I have loved my experience with the staff at this apartment! They made leasing a breeze and have been so receptive since! Jocelyn helped me with everything I needed in my move in process and is always quick to answer any questions or concerns I have! The maintenance staff is also great -- when I put in a request they come same day!

I was so impressed with these apartments! They’re beautiful and the amenities were impressive. The best in the area in my opinion.Mackinsie was so knowledgeable and answered all of my questions! You can tell she really cares about her clients. She took a lot of time to show me different floor plan options. I look forward to making this place my home!

I've been living at Cortland for about a month. When I moved in, there were a couple of issues I had with the apartment, and Blair and the rest of the management team addressed them promptly. They sincerely care about your experience here, and respond promptly to any concerns, which I have greatly appreciated. The renovated apartments are gorgeous, and the area is conveniently located to a lot of amenities, such as gyms and restaurants. Would highly recommend living here.Would like to take what I said above down. Since I moved in, I have been having issues whether it be broken and not properly sealed windows (which took almost a month to fix, and windows are still not sealed), malfunctioning doors, and the AC not working. Today, I noticed my windows were leaking, and went down to let them know that they had not still properly addressed this issue two months in. The front staff were extremely rude and demanding proof when I had spent the better part of the morning cleaning the windows and had no proof. I have never had property staff be that rude to me before, and dismissive. I would think twice before moving here. For the price, there are other luxury apartments.

Fire alarms going off, place is a construction site, elevators are always broken. I've never experienced so many issues with an apartment building. Also there was a period of time where the water had to be shut off many times. Very distressing.

Love living at the Cortland at West Village! The girls in the leasing office are always super helpful, all the staff and security officers are extremely friendly and go out of their way to say hello. Overall great place to live! The newly renovated apartments are incredible too!

I lived here during the apartment transition from Oakwood to Cortland. These are all my overall opinions.5/5:- The People are some of the best people you'll meet. Friendly neighbors all around. I loved Pedro (who transitioned to Cortland from Oakwood). He was basically our in-house go-to for any service concerns and free counseling. He was an open ear to listen and a VAULT! I very much appreciated the experience of the people. Some residents had lived there for 9+ years!- The Pool was very much influenced by the people, but very fun. Perfect sun exposure for tanning. The only thing that dimmed it was near the end of the lease, Cortland management became strict on number of guests and had a cop going around having us confirm our apartment #s.4/5 - The structure!- Parking: For guest parking, parking spots were sparse (especially after construction) or those that were available could be too small. Each unit got one free parking spot in a gated section.- Apartments: The apartments had beautiful, tall ceilings and concrete between floors to minimize noise. I hate cookie-cutter floor plans, and these apartments are anything but; so beautiful with decent views of the city if you get the right side! :)2/5 - Management- I do have some I liked: Mackinsie was very professional and helpful, and Nathaly was very helpful on the weekends! Jocelyn helped me out often as much as she could! The new management is...trying? Out of their control: The elevators go down for a LONG time (which never happened prior) and the water will be shut off for hours at a time (HOURS) due to construction, so you'll have to stay at your gym. Yes, they gave notice, but you didn't know the window. Within their control: They didn't update the elevator flyers on the other side of the building for months, so we felt forgotten and missed events. SO many AirBnBs in there it's insane. I fact-checked and I found 3 per page when I searched. I liked meeting new people, but it means you don't get those "neighbors," and the prices go up astronomically due to so many short-term rentals in your building. Also, Cortland has been "rumored" to have a very toxic work culture, and sometimes that would seep into the resident experience. I've heard a response between a manager and a resident was, "Well, then we just won't renew your lease! Bye!" Some residents received more options or leeway with their transfer process. It was weird to see/hear the varied experiences. It felt like if a member of the main office didn't like you, you wouldn't get what you needed. I don't play with the roof over my head. The pricing for an updated unit ($700-$1,000 rent increases) didn't match the customer service provided. They would try make up for it by giving occasional booze & food (pizza, cookies, etc.) events or morning coffee and food. You could rarely speak to me, only providing a good experience every time we chat and quality maintenance, and I'm happy.1/5:The neighborhood is "walkable," near restaurants and the Katy Trail, but I was questioning the safety before I moved out. Car break-ins across the street, a growing unhoused population that may tap on my window at the light on Cityplace, police presence always by the Metro station, and cars and motorcycles ZOOMING on the highway at midnight and 2 AM; these were a few things I could experience within a month. Not to mention, the L2 fire alarms almost weekly, followed by sirens, not only from the nearby hospital, but their own response. Shops like Albertson's and Brooks Brothers that closed years prior haven't reopened. Plus, the traffic is horrendous. Is it a cute area? Of course! But rumors of apartments taking the nearby lots off of Lemmon may obscure the view from residence facing Lemmon. Oh, and there are accidents on Lemmon and Oak Grove all the time - sometimes they even crash into the pole and knock out the power for hours.Overall, I loved my apartment and the people. I am happy I experienced it and moved somewhere
