I do not recommend. Scott lied about being able to REPLACE my transmission just to get it to their shop and say that all they could do was rebuild it. Said we needed to pay $4900 upfront for repairs. I’ve only ever paid for repairs AFTER it was completed. My car was still driveable before they came to get it. We lost 1k trying to get it fixed just for them “diagnose” it and nothing has been done because of Scott’s lack of honesty. Not only that they brought my car back and it can no longer move. How do you charge someone only to give them their vehicle back in a worse condition than it was when you received it??! And had the AUDACITY to say that we can bring it back there if we decide to get it fixed which I’m assuming is the reason why my car is no longer driveable. That’s the first and last $1000 this shop will get from us. Please find someone you know and trust to fix your car because this is not the place.

I was given a 3 to 5 day turn around time! I figured seven days and my truck was in the shop 16 going on 17. I made the trip down on the day they said it would be done and it was not I had to get a motel room in which they didn’t care! There rebuild guy just randomly left and never came back and the guys he had putting my truck back together shouldn’t be working on cars without supervision! One of his guys stole a 220$ knife out of my truck and he still has yet to call me and give me the Warrenty information on my transmission! But my transmission is shifting good and has no problems at this time!

Very good experience with the services, I had the opportunity to travel to Houston and spend my family vacation and as we do not know what was unexpected, my car broke down and through good references on the page I found this place, I called and their service was immediately made the diagnosis, We talked and with excellent agreement they solved the car problem, I thank this company for excellent service, kindness and above all responsibility.. thank you very much..

I came into this shop as a disgruntled individual. Every shop I went to failed to provide me with appropriate customer service; that’suntil I met Giovanni. This wonderful young man not only helped me find the solutions to my vehicular issues, he went the extra mile to make sure that this issue wouldn’t occur again. He was so gratuitous that I recommended this shop to everyone that I knew!

Saw transmission fluid in my driveway and went to a transmission shop near my job who told me i needed a rebuilt transmission. I then went to Universal Transmission because it was closer to my house and told them i needed to rebuilt my transmission but to my surprise, Scott and Giovanni both were very helpful and told me it was only my axle that needed to be replaced. Honest and great service.

I would not recommend Universal Transmission (UT) to anyone. I wish I would have read the reviews here beforehand!
I give credit to UT for completing the job and meeting their warranty terms which did not require extra costs to be paid to them after vehicle issues continued, but their lack of communication and planning, unmet timing commitments, and creation of further damage to my vehicle caused several inconveniences for me that could have easily been mitigated, and extended the work from 6 days in shop to 7 weeks in shop.
UT inspected my vehicle and agreed the transmission needed to be rebuild, and quoted me such. We agreed on the price and approximate timeframe. They only agreed to pay about 6 days of car rental (website stated free car rental). 8 days later, after inquiring about the status a few times, I was informed that it was ready.
A few days later, however, the same dashboard lights came on, something new was dragging under my vehicle, AND it appeared that someone scraped the front bumper on a yellow post. I brought my vehicle back to UT, at which point they wouldn’t pay any more for car rental. We agreed they would fix the scraped bumper later at no cost to me.
A few days later they said it requires a remanufactured transmission. 2 weeks later I still don’t have my vehicle as they’re still seeing the dashboard light after the replacement, but they think the problem is the electrical wiring.
I notified them that I’m out of town for the next week, and they said it should be ready by the time I get back. I said great, please drop it off at my house so that I have transportation when I arrive back. They agreed.
As my return neared, I had to keep calling UT to get status updates from them to ensure the vehicle would be ready in time. They said I’ll get a text or call back before I land, stating the status. I land, but no calls or texts! I try contacting the manager, but no reply. As I near home I finally get a text stating that the vehicle is not ready, but now it’s too late for me to get a rental car for my appointments the next day!
I picked up my vehicle the next evening. We agreed that I’ll return it soon for the paint job, as I’ll then be out of town for 3 weeks, which we all agreed is plenty of time to make the repair. They will send it to a painter that they trust to get the job done well.
I return the vehicle a few weeks later and fly out of town. As my return approaches, I still haven’t heard from them. I have to call and remind them that I need the vehicle on my driveway on the day I return, as I have appointments the next morning. They said they’ll inquire about the status and call me back. No return calls!
Once again, the day of my return arrives, but I’m informed late in the day that I will have to pick it up because they just got it back and have nobody to bring it to my house.
When I pick it up I notice that the paint job is terrible. Paint drips exist in various locations. This is from someone they trusted, and was given 3 weeks to perform the work on just a 1 sqft area of the bumper. I will not be returning to UT to have the paint job corrected… who knows how many more weeks it would require!
Due to the issues and slowness of completing the work, in total I spent an extra 3 weeks on car rental costs that were not reimbursed by UT, and saved myself an additional 4 weeks of extra car rental costs by luck of my out-of-town timing!
Overall, their communication was terrible. If I had never initiated calls to check on the status any of the 3 times that they had my vehicle, further delays would have ensued. I could not plan my days accordingly just due to their poor communication.
In the end, I could have spent the same total out-of-pocket costs to have had my car dealership perform the work, where a free loaner vehicle would have been is

I brought these guys my truck about 11 months ago to get a whole transmission re build payed almost 6k after 3 months I had to comeback bc the transmission was leaking and got it fixed but had to comeback again not even a year because the transmission was slipping now they are charging me 800 to tell me what I need and more for the parts and the warranty doesn’t cover it bc they said I already put more than 12k miles save your money go to a better reliable shop, they scam you so you can help them stay in business don’t ignore the bad reviews like I did

Worst experience ever! Got my transmission done, got the warranty, PAID $4,000 and 10 months later the transmission went out again. They tried to say it was an “electrical” problem the warranty didn’t cover it and they wanted $3,000 more to fix i. The manager is rude told me I was being aggressive on the phone bc I was cutting him off and hung up on me. I told them not to fix anything and give me my car back and now I have to pay $897 so they can put it back together…the manager also refused to provide contact information so I could speak to someone else. A separate employee texted me and told me the owner would contact me, and the manager told me the owner won’t be contacting me ever and refused to provide contact information for someone above him.

DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE HERE Horrible THEY HAVE 4 SHOPS IN Houston not even the manager answers the phone about your Vehicle and no one ever knows anything about your repairs or when it will be ready we took our truck they had it for 98 days until we filed a complaint with the BBB to later find out others had the same issues our truck was worse than what we took it for and it cost us a lot of money
