After my last husband's death I did have issues trying to cash checks made out to "The Estate of......." and was told I needed to have his will probated, which I did, more for other reasons than a couple of checks. Unfortunately I wasn't told I also needed an estate account which I wasn't going to do. Instead I went to the check issuers and had the checks replaced, which was no small feat with Blue Cross Blue Shield!
