I had a troubling experience at the FirstCash location on International Blvd in Brownsville, TX, on September 4, 2024. The store was running a 15% discount promotion on most items, clearly excluding those with “was/now” tags—used for clearance sales. The price on the box of the item I wanted was $89.99, while a small sticker on the back of the item indicated a sticker price of $100.
Earlier in the day, a salesperson confirmed that the discount would apply to the $89.99 price, consistent with the promotion details. However, when I returned to purchase the item, the manager—a woman whose name I do not remember—rudely insisted that the discount applied only to the sticker price of $100, not the $89.99 listed on the box. I calmly explained that the promotion applied to items without “was/now” tags, as advertised, and that other locations were honoring the promotion correctly.
Despite my clear explanation and the promotion being correctly applied at other FirstCash locations, the manager seemed to misunderstand or disregard the promotion’s terms. Her response was dismissive and confrontational, creating a very tense environment for both me and her employees. The manager even ordered the immediate removal of promotional signs, which only added to the confusion. The screens at the front of the store still showed the promotion.
The situation was exacerbated by the fact that the item had been on the shelves for months, leading to a gradual reduction in price, and the dispute was over an $8 difference. After a prolonged discussion, I received the correct discount, but the process was stressful and left me feeling disrespected.
This experience highlighted a significant gap in customer service and promotion handling at this location. It’s crucial for managers to accurately understand and communicate promotional details to ensure a positive customer experience. I hope FirstCash takes this feedback seriously and works to improve their internal communication and customer service practices.
