This is a wonderfully warm and welcoming shul. The Zaklikofsky's are wonderful people. The JLI classes taught here are awesome. I highly suggest you attend a session.

My interactions have been scant --but stand out lovely. My dad's mom is Jewish, making him "properly" Jewish, but not me. My dad would sprinkle Jewishness throughout my upbringing and my siblings, but never an outright mention or delineation. It was only in 2009 that I learned my paternal side are CryptoJews. I've been "shopping" online where to learn what's been hidden, and lost. One place I peek at is the Shul of Bellaire. Maybe it's a place where I might outright learn all the Jewish things my father sprinkled in my life. I could put more pieces together. The Shul looked open enough for my predicament. I've been hesitating because most of my phenotypes are all Asian-Pacific Islander. However, this place has been feeling open and inviting. Interaction 1: In summer, I think, I saw they're giving free packets of pandemic face masks. I inspected the announcement. It seemed anyone could come by. I thought it finally a way to check out the place, only to see a line of cars and people on foot, mostly blue collar looking, and Hispanic. The Shul oh-so-pleasantly, and respectfully handed out the packets of masks to everyone, and kept us moving safely along. Interaction 2: I thanked them on fb, and they invited me to come by! Said I could have come into the building to say hello too. That feels really good that it didn't matter that I would need to look or be Ashkenazi for any happy, open welcoming. I'm going to brave it after pandemic. In the meanwhile, looking at their online events and my calendar.

The experience was bitter sweet. There were some very welcoming individuals who did truly display hospitality. Our children had a great time. There were others who made it uncomfortable and awkward. It was a Feast Day so we were just interested in sharing it with other Jews.
