After losing my kitty fur baby after 20 yrs of having cats I decided I was too old to take of another. (71)
I donated all my kitty accessories, extra litter and food to the shelter for other kitties to enjoy.

These people truly care about the animals of Baytown. I cannot say enough good things about the facility and the employees.

horrible…
please go to La Porte; it’s a 10 extra min
(yes these babies need homes too; but if your looking for a smooth adoption, friendly staff , with knowledge la porte shelter is your way to go)
Dogs are treated better, have more time spent with them, cats are in good health, adoption is a very smooth process. All animals are given a general check up before adoption and most of the time are in good health; if not while funding last they will cover your vet trips. $85 adoption fee, gets you a $75 voucher towards sterilizing & if im not mistaken rabies).

My recent experience with the Baytown animal shelter has been nothing short of disappointing and deeply concerning. A distressing situation unfolded when we discovered a dog abandoned inside an empty apartment for several days, deprived of food and water. Despite our efforts to reach the owner yielding no response, we turned to the shelter for assistance.
Unfortunately, our interaction with the shelter, particularly with a staff member named Merla, was marked by an alarming level of indifference and apathy. Merla's dismissive attitude towards the plight of the suffering dog left us astounded and appalled. The dog was audibly crying and clearly in distress, yet we were met with the response that "nothing can be done."
This response is not only callous but also runs contrary to Texas law, which explicitly prohibits acts of animal abandonment without food, water, and adequate care. Such neglect is not just morally reprehensible but is also punishable by law. It begs the question: why is Baytown Animal Shelter failing to enforce these legal protections? Is it due to overcrowded shelters or simply incompetent and uncaring employees?
The failure of the shelter to intervene in a clear case of animal neglect raises serious concerns about their commitment to animal welfare and their adherence to legal responsibilities. As a community that cares about the well-being of animals, it is crucial that our shelters uphold the standards set by law and demonstrate compassion towards vulnerable animals in need.
In conclusion, my experience with Baytown Animal Shelter, particularly in this instance, has been disheartening and deeply troubling. There is a clear need for accountability and improvement in how such cases are handled to ensure that no animal suffers needlessly due to neglect and indifference.

We adopted a sweet little guy about a month ago, and he's a great addition to the family. So glad the city has this well-run shelter servicing the needs of Baytown.
Excellent facility, literally the cleanest animal shelter I have ever been to, they even provide ear protection since the dogs get excited for visitors. They regularly walk the dogs, have outreach programs several times a month, no adoption fee, provide you with a list of resources for animal care, leash and harness if you need it, very patient and kind staff. And that's just the shelter portion.
Animal control is also excellent, takes thorough information and super quick response time. Literally within 10 minutes of reporting a loose dog it was handled. Very impressed with how things are being run!

If your looking for a pet stop on in and take a look around. It's so sad and heart braking on how most of theses babies ended up here. Please help out they are running out of space for Dogs. Some of them are shy some are scared. They have been missed used and miss treated badly ?. Folks if you really want a loving animal this is the place. I wish I had a Big yard there was 5 beautiful dogs here that I would love to have. The staff is friendly and will explain anything you want to know about the dogs are cats. They have some pretty cats also for all the cat lover's ?. But they have more dogs ? than anything. So please if u love animals such as myself stop on by and get you one are two and love on them. And if you do get one at least give the shelter some updates on how the baby is doing. I will definitely be going back and getting me two for myself.
