I have over 30 years worth of car repair stories spanning multiple states and locales, and the experience I had at “Yost II” was by far the WORST I’ve ever had.
I took my 2014 Prius V to “Yost II,” and was charged an eye-watering $900+ for a simple water pump installation, which is nearly twice as much as this costs in parts and labor, even at a dealership. Not only that, but the part that they installed was later confirmed by a far more reputable shop, to not even be a genuine Toyota part. To add insult to injury, when they installed their fake part into my car, they didn’t properly bleed the cooling system or even bother to replace the thermostat while they were doing the work. It was shockingly shoddy, amateurish work, delivered to me with a maximum amount of arrogance and attitude.
It gets worse, though. These guys literally totaled my car with their incompetence and greed, and since the statute of limitations has not run out on a claim at all, I’ll likely end up successfully suing them for the damage they caused to my vehicle.
Let me explain: The Prius lacks, rather infamously, a temperature gauge, and so the onus is on whomever is working on the cooling system to do the best and most professional work possible to ensure that the car is adequately cooled. My car got the opposite of good, professional work at Yost II, though. Therefore, I got to spend the 2023 Texas heat wave that was to come, in a car that was overheating due to their negligence, without the car having any way of telling me something was wrong, until the head gasket soon failed. On third generation Priuses, these head gasket failures are all too common when there is an issue with the water pump.
Not only did these jokers put a fake part in my car and fail to bleed the cooling system correctly, but they also snapped off a bolt on the air box that attaches to the intake manifold, as well. Mark got instantly rude, indignant, and hostile about it when I went to pick up my car. He failed to be an adult by owning up to doing it, and did a very hacky JB weld job to “fix” it instead of replacing the $40 part that they had broken. His little temper tantrum and what he then did to my vehicle while he believed he was not being observed is all on video, being safeguarded by my lawyer.
I have the receipts and third party testimony to support all of this, as well as video evidence. Don’t believe the astroturfed reviews, believe the people who actually went to this place and got ripped off and had their car ruined. Avoid, avoid, avoid. This place is absolutely terrible.

Yosts is the best! You say their name anywhere and people always say, “Yeah, I know Yosts. They’re the best.” And they are. One of Austin’s best small business gems.

Got some major repairs done here recently. It took a little longer than I'd have liked, but they were very insistent on making sure my car was working completely before they gave her back to me, taking extra time to fix things that got mixed up in rebuilding the engine, and when it became clear it was taking a while to finish they even lent me a rental car so I could still go about my business.
The work seems solid, and the warranty is nothing to sneeze at either. I'll update this later if i need to, but I dont think I'll need to.

RIPPED OFF. I can't stop thinking about how I got ripped off at Yost Automotive. If you're still thinking about using this company, make sure you visit their location and bring spray paint to mark the item they claim to be replacing. Also, request teardown photos. This is not the same Yost I would have recommended 5 years ago. If they call you stating more items need replacing stop them right there and take your car elsewhere. In addition, I asked for two crucial parts to be saved for my review. Yost promised they would be available, but on payment day, these parts were returned as "cores" to the parts store; therefore, I couldn't review them. I also wanted to speak with the owner but was told he was "out of the country." .

I cannot recommend Yost Automotive highly enough. Exceptional service. Even though they were slammed today, they made time to fix my unhappy tire. They had already earned my undying loyalty the time I couldn't figure out why my battery kept draining. Turns out, I had knocked on some obscure light in the trunk. No judging, no mocking, no charge. ❤❤❤

The total for hybrid battery replacement and other charges cost me just over $2700. I went in needing a new hybrid battery for my 2010 Prius, but then the mechanic left my headlights on which ran down the regular battery, so he charged me an additional $300 to put in a new one of those. He also left the windows down in the rain leaving the interior and seats wet and the car smelling like mildew.

Yost is the kind of place you’re thankful for knowing about. I’ve had all sorts of work done on my truck (‘04 Tacoma) and every experience has left me grateful that I have these guys to rely on. I trust them 100% and recommend them to everyone. They are honest, skilled at what they do, and the everyone there is incredibly nice; the receptionists, the manager, and the mechanics… all fantastic people that genuinely want to help you out. If you want to feel good about getting work done on your or your loved one’s vehicle, bring it to Yost. You’ll be glad you did.

i came here after having the worst experience of my life at a toyota dealership. prices were 10x better, service was 10x
quicker, and they made everything incredibly easy. if you are looking for any service on your car come here, this is the place to be!!!

took my truck in since it was making an engine noise. they said it was normal and we replaced the oil. I requested full synthetic and they put sythentic blend which I wasnt aware of until the change engine light came on a few weeks later which they forgot to reset. I had to reset it and now we are now getting a different knocking noise. I called trying to see what to and I spoke to mark who I guess is the owner. He was not very helpful at all, got defensive and pretty much wouldn't help or provide anything just said bring it in. Its hard to think they could fix it considering they counldnt even reset the oil light or follow basic instructions for full sythetic. Makes you wonder what else they over look cause clearly attention to detail isn't in this companies mind. I wish I never took my truck here since this is our only car and now I have to take it to another mechanic since I don't trust this place to fix anything with wheels. Trust me don't rely on the google reviews cause I did and now my family is paying a price for. Mark is a jerk and lacks any sense of customer care and his team seems to be unaware of anything regarding paying attention to details, which is kind of something important to have when working on a 85k truck. Literally go anywhere else but here.
