I’m not usually a review writer, but there are those occasions where you feel so strongly about your experience that you just have to. This is one of those times. I cannot say enough good things about Volvo of Austin and especially salesperson John Knorre. From the first contact via text to waving goodbye as I drove off the lot, this was my best car buying experience ever, and I have bought more than a few cars in my lifetime. The word that comes to mind when I think of both this dealership and John Knorre is “integrity”. Not surprisingly, I learned that Volvo of Austin is veteran-owned, and you can feel the efficiency, the professionalism, and the respect for the customer in all they do, from start to finish. I never felt pushed, even during the usually dreaded meeting with the finance guy! It was seriously the best car purchase experience, ever. Buy your car here-and ask for John-you will not be disappointed!

2 Part review: 1) I get that people work hard and are super busy trying to make things happen. But management has to do a better job at checking in on their employees before they interact with customers. My customer experience was average at best. The guys working there were fine but the ladies working there looked pissed or annoyed or whatever… and I get it we all have bad days but they appeared to try to cover it up or try to make sure you had a pleasant customer experience and be engaged to ensure quality customer service. Basic manners and courtesy of “please, thank you, you are welcome etc.” and looking at customers in the eye goes a long way even during simple transactions and they don’t cost employees anything to do. ?
Customers transactions will get done but man… don’t expect anything else beyond that because it will seem like you are inconveniencing the employees. Even when I got my car back for pick up the employee just said “key fob is in the car” and that’s it. He left both the plastic and paper floor mat in the car and left and I had to grab it and throw it away and throw it out to myself…couple thoughts ran through my mind “can I get reduction on the cost of my service that I just paid for since I had to do that guys job? Lord knows I could have saved a couple of bucks” and “man! I hope that guy has a better day and treats the next customer better.”
2) Volvo has to do something about surrounding environment of this dealerships location. The Next door gas station is packed with a huge cluster of Latino men looking for work on a street corner as if it were a loading dock in a shipment yard. I’m in support of people looking for work but My wife never feels comfortable coming here because it doesn’t appear safe. Just looks like an open free-fall where anything could go down and there never appears to be any security or police presence just in case… but I’m sure they got other pressing issues.

Jim Coyle, the service manager, made my day. Although I took my car in because of the A/C, he took time to sit in my car with me to help figure why I couldn't get my music to play with bluetooth. He was thoughtful and patient, even though he's clearly a busy guy. Thanks, Jim. I''ll be back to buy next time we upgrade to a newer Volvo.

Linda Lilley is the best salesperson ever! I went in for a flat tire and left with not one, but 2 new Volvos!

Sales people are good. (Read till the end...)
Fair warning: XC 40 R design T5 is a really bad car. The gear shifting makes the whole car wobble. The car vibrates at 50-60 speed. Loud noises inside the cabin are just a few of the issues. (Google them up and you will find plenty of people experiencing these issues) (Not sure if these problems translate to remaining cars)
Update 1:
I had a flat tyre today and I have to call Volvo because I bought protection thru them. When I called them I kept getting redirected around for about 30 min. Then they cut my call. Then I called again and asked the parts department if they have a replacement tyre. Then called the service dept to tell them they have the part and needs replacement. They asked me to schedule an appointment! I finally called enough times that one of them agreed to get the tyre repaired on the same day.
Update 2: I went in for service at the 2 year mark. Told the service person I have been having starting issues where car would make startup noise for a long time before starting up.
He said he would know if something like this were to happen as the sensors were very sensitive. (Basically saying I was lying). I took his word hoping they did somethig. A week later my car just won't start back on. Exact same problem I had described during the service.
Bottom line, everytime I think maybe it's just this one time the service is bad, I keep getting it again.
There is a new Volvo store in Austin now, I'll take my business to them. Hopefully they believe their customers.

Thanks to Aaron, Vivian, and Emmett in sales and Steve in Finance for being patient and professional with me over several months as I transitioned from a Tesla Model S to an XC90 Recharge (after 2 years on the waitlist for EX90, which I eventually cancelled). Aaron knows the product really well - he did a great job explaining the features of the car to my wife in a concise way during our test drive. Vivian made sense of all the trim changes across model years and politely walked around the whole parking lot in 100 degrees helping me compare colors, wheels and other features. Emmett's a great listener and answered about a million of my questions (does he have a PhD in Volvo?). I never felt like they were pushing a sale on me. Definitely a higher personal touch than Tesla. Negotiations can be tough, but through it all this team (including Steve Garza in finance) kept a calm, bright/smiling demeanor- sort of like Swedish design. A refreshing car dealership experience.

I can’t say enough about the used car manager Brian and sales associate Aaron Leal. I bought a lemon. Warning lights coming on within 48hrs of putchase. Brian tried to fix many times, replacing numerous parts to no avail. Then I returned it and him and Aaron got me into a much more reliable vehicle… a big improvement actually for close to the same price. They invested a lot of time in me and my satisfaction with little financial reward. I have never been treated that well at a car dealership. Thanks guys!

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME
Called to inquire about a car and salesman tells me to come in asap: I go there in 15 mins after rescheduling my day . I go in, hand in my id and the salesman comes back to me sitting in the car for a test drive and tells me that the car was sold by his colleague.
They need to be mindful about not wasting peoples time and have some sort of an internal system to track changes on the cars’ status.

I had a fantastic experience buying a pre-owned Volvo at Volvo Cars of Austin. Alex Morataya, the Volvo brand specialist I worked with, was fair, responsive and super helpful. Look no further if you are in the market for a Volvo, and be sure to ask for Alex!

Vivian was great to work with! We appreciated her expertise and efficiency as we purchased a pre-owned vehicle. She was quick, thorough, but never pushy. Overall, good experience.
