Deceptive practices at Austin airport ? Please read everything you sign!! I just rented a vehicle and added a driver at the counter (for less than $14 a day) while the agent just said sign here next thing I knew I had signed for almost $200 additional fees. The agent did not explain what I was accepting and I thought it was signing only to add additional driver. I will be reading everything I sign from now on no matter how long the line is but then again Thrifty/Hertz is OUT! Tried to resolve but all I get is “you signed and accepted” NEVER AGAIN TO RENT A VEHICLE FROM THRIFTY AND HERTZ

The rep was great, however be prepared to pay an additional tax even when you prepay. The car we had had a very funky windshield that was odd to see through clearly. The wait at this rental was VERY long.

Fraudsters! Avoid! Do not rent from this location! The counter agent added insurance after I specifically asked to decline it, then scrolled the contract screen so it wasn't clear what I was signing. Then, they do not answer their phone for any reason, so you will not be able to resolve any issue during our after your rental. The 1-800 number acknowledges this local office is bad, but they can't do anything about it. The local office must get so many complaints they just don't answer the phone.

Warning this is the worst rental at this thrifty location. I don’t know what they’re doing and it’s so far away waiting in line 1 hour. Attached is a video of the horrible line that we’ve been waiting in and furthermore the customer care does not pick up the phone so i’m unable to even cancel the reservation. I want a refund but no help. i’m forced towaste over an hour of my vacation in this line. It’s terribly managed here!! Customer care please contact me now.

Waited an hour in line even with a reservation. Went outside and found 5 employees just standing around chatting it up. Told me they had no cars. How about you come tell the massive line of people waiting on a car at 9pm that you DONT HAVE ANY CARS. At the very least give us an update. We got an Uber and canceled our reservation. A shred of customer service would have been nice though.

I went throught Expedia which did not notify me that there's a $500 deposit for debit card use which is upsurd. I had both my name and my husband's on the reservation, but Thrifty wouldn't give me the car because although I was on the reservation I was told it was under my husband. I received the email all in my details though. I didn't cancel but started asking other rental car agencies for a car. Before I secured a car, Thrifty cancelled my rental without me saying so. No reason their name is Thrifty. Would never use.

We had a reservation for 4 days with Thrifty. We got to the rental car facility at the airport at 11:00pm and Thrifty was supposed to be open until 12:00 midnight but there was a sign that said they were closed and go to Hertz for our reservation. We waited in line over an hour and at 12:10am we got to the counter. The Herrz manager said that they did t have any cars for Thrifty after midnight and we had to come back at 7am the next morning to get one. We are staying 25 minutes a way. Thrifty has not honored its contract and the manager at Hertz was rude and unprofessional.

I should have listened to the horrible reviews- they were so on point. They will nickel and dime you for everything- they stopped us on our way out because my husband was driving- would not let us leave the parking lot until we switched seats or paid an additional several hundred dollars. Go through a toll? They add an extra $10 to it. Our SUV was a joke- it was smaller than a sedan. It was not noted on our reservation, and even when speaking to the agent, she assured us it would be spacious enough and omg, it was a clown car with 5 of us in it. We could not fit our luggage (which was only a few bags) and had to stack it on top of us in the seats to leave. They had no other cars available, so it was that or nothing.

Terrible experience!!! Booked a car for the day to travel to west Texas, using Expedia (another mistake) and was assigned an electric vehicle with no AC! This is August in Texas with 100 degree plus heat. I had not requested an electric vehicle because we were traveling to rural west Texas where there were few if any charging stations along our route or at our destination (I checked). Because I had not requested an electric vehicle, especially with no AC, I immediately contacted Expedia (who did the booking) and Thrifty to change the reservation to something I had actually requested. Both companies were impossible to contact via phone (needed the car in 24 hours) and were not good partners. Neither service was willing to help or negotiate a change, in fact Expedia suggested I cancel, which I did and ended up paying half the car rental with out ever getting a car! Austin car rentals are difficult to begin with and keep a low inventory so you are lucky to get a car when you need it. Truly disappointed in the bad service, wrong car selection and total disregard for what I had requested. Will not use either service again.

Contrary to other renters' experience, I had a good one. Yes, the line was a bit long like some of the other company because of people. But, it's also because of customers asking for more information or a better deal. That's just how it is when people get their turn. Anyway, my good experience started with with the gentleman who assisted me. He was knowledgeable and informative. He helped me make the best decision for my needs. I just wish I remember his name. The vehicle ran well. No issues. As for the rental return, it was so easy. I drove the vehicle to the area and got my receipt almost as soon as I parked.

Never get their "deal" which is a rip off. Generally deals and specials mean you pay in advance, and they give you any car. I'm normally not picky but upon arrival they said all we have is an EV and that I can buy an "upgrade" for an extra $200! Then they also want you to return the car with 80% charge but the car doesn't work with half the outlets available. I tried using my hotel's external outlets, my friends ranch... Everytime it said "cannot charge". This means I was left stressing and had to use Uber for 2 of my days of my trip because this car became a glorified parking lot ornament as it had no range left. When I finally found a 3rd party charger, it still would've taken 10 hours to completely charge the car. Inconvenience would be an understatement. So they charged me an extra $35 because I returned it with 60% charge instead of the absurd 80... Which is hardly possible unless you plan a full 24hrs in advance. Lesson learned: NEVER rent an EV (unless it's a Tesla) and stay away from Thrifty if you can help it.

I reserved the manager's special through a third-party site which said it would be a compact or larger. When I got there, the agent told me the manager's special was an EV. I did not want an EV; never drove an EV, and there I was being told I have to take an EV. I told the agent I didn't want it. She said if I wanted a different car, it would be an additional charge. I asked for the cheapest and she said it would be an extra $170 for the week. I already paid $293 for a week and now you're telling me if I want a gas car I'm paying $470 for 1 week? I told her to give me the EV. It was late, I was tired, and I had been up for over 16 hours and had another hour to drive to my destination. Besides, the EVs are supposed to be better than gas cars. This one wasn't. The Polestar 2. I hated it. The nearest fast charging station was an hour away from where I was staying (and not in the direction of the airport); the charge drained quickly, and it did not get a lot of mileage. I returned the car less than 24 hours later, letting the agent know of its inconvenience and being adamant about the manager's special not specifying that an EV might be an option. I was able to swap it out with a Camry for no additional charge, and am grateful for that agent showing me kindness.

Thrifty/ Hertz - very very worstNegative review. No customer service. Once we have rented out the car, we need to have it until return. Will not exchange even the car has issues. When the car had an issue, I called the customer service and it took more than 10 calls to connect. Once it connected, it took 30 minutes to speak with the customer service representative.Advised to go to the Airport to change the car which was 35 minutes drive. When I reached the Hertz counter, the lady was happy to help. But she called a person who was inside. A man with Hertz uniform came and checked the car. He said it's reset. But I demanded an exchange as I have a long drive to go. But the guy just threatened me and said if I need I can take this car, or else no car.

The drop off was easy thanks to the agent who was very fast. Couldn't have been easier.
