On 5/29/13 I had a hair appointment at Parlour on 6th also known as Joie De Vie Salon and Spa with Andrea De Leon @ 10am. However, upon my arrival I was told I was now going to see Ashley Knoblauch. I provided a picture of the colors I wanted in my hair to Ashley. She state it would be about a 2hr process and that it should not be a problem. She stated she had done this type of coloring before and that it was going to look awesome. I told her I had a wedding on Saturday so it was important that I look good. About an hour into the process she stated that the dye was not taking to my hair and she did not understand why. She then told me that she had been provided with a product she had never used before because the stylist in charge of ordering had failed to order the product they use. I was informed that the product currently being used on my hair was something they had just purchased from another salon/store to use on me. After 4 hours of attempting to correct my hair, Ashley proclaimed that she was finished. However upon looking at my hair I started crying and told her that what I had asked for was NOT what she had delivered. She spoke with her manager Erika who then assigned two other stylist to try and correct the mess Ashley had made. After another 5 hours the to stylist proclaimed that my hair was fixed and that it looked fabulous. I looked at my hair which was wet and told the stylist that I could not really see what the color was. They stated they did not want to dry my hair because heat would further damage it. I was not charged for the ordeal and I tipped them $40 thinking they had done a good job. Unfortunately by the time I arrived home my hair was dry and I could now see what the true results were. I started crying again called the manager Erika and sent her pictures of the final product. She apologized and ask that I return again in the morning and stated she would personally fix it. I told her no because I had no confidence in her salon or stylist. I stated to her that I would be going to Bella salon to Tiffany V. and getting it fixed there. She stated that she would reimburse me for the cost of correcting the mess they had made. The next morning I went to Bella salon and was there from 10am - 4pm getting my hair repaired. My hair had to be cut because the edges had been fried from all the processing done by Parlour at 6th, it had to be deep conditioned several times, and colored several times. I was so grateful to my stylist for correcting my hair and preparing me for the wedding I was to attend on Saturday. The cost for the repair was $325. I submitted the receipt to Parlour on 6th and they would only reimburse me $200. Erika stated that she had to convince her boss to even reimburse me that much because he felt the cost was to high. I stated to her that I needed the entire amount covered because had they not ruined my hair I would have never incurred that cost. I asked for the owners information she refused to give it to me and stated that I should send her an email with my complaint and that she would forward it to the owner. I am still awaiting a response. I filed a complaint with the BBB and will take them to small claims court if I am not given the $125 I am owed.

Dawn Hill has done my hair for 2-3 years. She's awesome and wicked fun. Her haircuts are great, and her colouring is even better. The fine, detailed blonde highlights Dawn gave me were magic.

Dawn Hill is awesome. I can't speak to the salon's nail or massage services but I would definitely recommend getting your hair cut or colored by Dawn. She is fun to be around and does a fantastic job.

I like my pedicures and massages. So when I was treated to both to help me relax, I was pleasantly suprised with Joie de Vie. Kinda of great place, reminds me of brownstones from NY or Boston. It's a split level place with the pedicures and massages on the bottom and hair on top. But a lovely little bar in back. I would be coming back every so often.

I recently visited Joie De Vie for a bachelorette party mani/pedi session, we where thoroughly impressed with the free mimosas and super cute nail salon but were completely disappointed with the work! We had 6 girls for manicures and pedicures and showed up on time for our appointment and with 4 "manicurist" it took 3 plus hours! Not only did the service take forever but it was beyond terrible, I can honestly say I have never had a worst manicure/pedicure, I do 10 times better myself. The wedding was the next day and I had to redo my nails the day of, it was so terrible.. All in all don't waste your time or your money going here.. Such a waste, I spent 65 bucks for one mimosa, painted skin, and to short nails.

I recently went to Joie De Vie with a wedding party to get manicures and pedicures. While the salon is very nice and well kept, and the staff are indeed very friendly they do not know what they're doing when it comes to doing nails. We had an appointment for 6 mani-pedis starting at 10:00 a.m. and were at the salon until well after 1:00 p.m. Towards the end of our time there, one bridesmaid's nails had still not been done and all of the staff had left except for one lady who said, "Oh I didn't know you wanted your nails done, too." The nails themselves were another situation. While I will say that my pedicure looked fine, I have never received a worse french manicure in my life. Every single bridesmaid and the bride had a horrible job done on their nails. Several girls had to repaint their nails the next day before the wedding! The maid of honor's nails were painting, and so was her skin! The woman didn't even give her a manicure, just slapped on paint and basically left. In total, it was about $65 PLUS tax for the mani-pedi. I have never paid so much money for such a horrible job in my life. DO NOT GO HERE TO GET YOUR NAILS DONE. I wish I lived in Texas so I could go into the shop and demand for my money back, but alas I cannot. I would not even be interested in a voucher for future services.

Don't go here. Oh wait, you can't because they won't book you. I called 2 times yesterday trying to get an appointment on Friday because I had a gift card. Both times my name and information was taken. The second time I called they acted like they had never heard from me. The takeaway was that none of the massage therapists or the esthetician are in the salon on Friday. So how is this a full service salon? Then I called AGAIN today because they had yet to call me back and told me that the esthetician was booked. They can't get their story straight, they will not honor my gift certificate. I have my own nail tech and hair dresser and will not go to anyone else. That was the ONLY services they offered as a full service salon. Don't go here. Don't go here. Don't go here. Customer service sucks.

I went in to make an appointment...I say I got there at around 12-1 to ask for an appointment later that day. They told me there was one open for 5:00pm, so I came back and the lady that was supposed to do my hair was caught up with another client's party. I said that was fine and that I would wait...they told me the wait was only going to be 10 minutes. The 10 minutes ended up being like an hour...cause we got there a little early. The receptionists?I guess that's what they are...were rude, told me they were checking on the stylist to see if she was done...would come back and ignore me. They clearly didn't want my business, so I left. I thought since it looked cool, I would get an awesome haircut but ended up disappointed. I won't be going back there again... Being a hairstylist myself, I thought it was very unprofessional....

A huge disappointment. I had been looking for a place all day to get a massage and honestly didn't even know that Joie De Vie had that service available. On a good note, I did call them and they had no one currently staffed to work this evening, but they called someone in, ehh maybe I should have taken that as a sign that the massage would not be of quality. Now on to the constructive criticisms. First off, the ambience royally sucks. The massage rooms are downstairs and resemble that of spare utility rooms. There is an analog clock right above where your head rests so enjoy the tick-tick-tick of the second hand as it goes around. I go to get a massage to relax, escape, disconnect for an hour or longer. I don't want to hear the sound of time. The clock wasn't the major vacation ruiner, it was the paper thin walls and ceiling. Like I said, the rooms are downstairs and above is the salon with wood floors. Yep, you hear everyone walking around and chatting. If someone drops something it reverberates quite loudly down below and immediately interrupts what tranquil domain you have been trying to get too. The rooms are just loud. I was shorted on my time allotted. I scheduled a ninety minute appointment at 6pm, but the masseuse was late and we didn't get started until 6:15pm. This in theory should have taken me out to 7:45pm, however, at 7:30pm the massage ended. Now I am no massage expert, but I have been to a number of places and have yet to find one fail to have the therapist waiting outside with a glass of water, well that is until now. A small bother, but hey, I noticed it so you will too. The worst part was the massage itself. My therapist was Tina. A small girl that supposedly has 10 years experience. I went in b/c my whole body was really tight, especially my back. She continued to concentrate on tracing my shoulder blades with her elbow. It felt good, but my back comprises of more than tracing natural lines. it was the same thing over and over and never did she attend to the middle of my back, contouring the spine. I was very specific when I said what kind of pressure I wanted. I told her that I was extremely tight and not to beat up on me on the first pass, but really dig in once underway. When we were finished she asked if the pressure was ok. I think that's a little late in the game. Whoooooaaaaaa. Side story. Tina, turn your f'ing phone off. Don't have it on vibrate, leave it outside of the room or answer the thing if it is that important, but do not continue to let it vibrate in hopes that the customer does not notice, we do, and it is even more annoying than the thin textures b/c you should know better. The last ten minutes of the massage were as if she had finished quickly, was tired and thought I was out. She literally sat by my feet and gently touched them. There was no technique or therapeutic demeanor to it. Her hand would keep slowing and then stop for a second and then pick back up a short time later as if she was falling asleep. I seriously think she was. All in all, this place may be reputable for their haircuts, I don't know, but after my experience, I would advise everyone to look elsewhere.

Love it here! I followed Mischa Fruge to Joie De Vie when she moved there from another salon. Mischa is fantastic! I am very picky about my hair and haven't had good luck with other stylists (none of which work at Joie De Vie) but Mischa does a great job and I honestly love my hair more every time I go to see her! I am not very good at verbalizing the idea of what I want my hair to look like but Mischa is really patient and will take her time until I am more than happy, which I am every time. On top of how terrific Mischa is, the salon itself is great too. The atmosphere is relaxed yet professional and all of the employees are so friendly and make you feel welcome. I've definitely been places where the vibe is stuck up and Joie De Vie is nothing like that. Everyone will smile and say hi and you will feel completely comfortable there. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a versatile salon with a knowledgeable, friendly and talented staff.

This review is based on Dawn Hill - she is absolutely one of the nicest, most talented hair stylists in Austin. For years, I've been visiting a salon that gave discounts if you used their new stylists, which I did every time. I purchased a Living Social Deal in 2010 for Joie de Vie and Dawn was my stylist. I don't have overly complicated hair, but it's long and I don't color it. I was really pleased with how she cleaned it up and made it less frumpy. After a couple of months, I went back to discount salon and was highly unsatisfied with my cut. So I've been going back to Dawn every few months for my cut and it's totally worth it. She is stellar!
