These are the most beautiful handcrafted books I have ever laid eyes on. I bought one a few years back and have absolutely loved it so I could not pass up the opportunity to get my hands on another. You can even water color on the pages after you are done writing/journaling in it--that's my next step for the first one. Anyways absolute love--made with extreme care and quality

I met Mychal at an art bazaar in Austin TX and fell in love with her beautiful handmade journals. I am an artist working on my watercolor skills and I LOVE to write and letter. Mychal was able to make a journal for me with some watercolor paper (that was in short supply.) I just rec'd my journal and am awestruck by how beautiful it is (and the leather smells delicious!!) She also sent me some samples of the bamboo paper she uses. I wanted it in anticipation of the NEXT journal I order from her! I highly recommend Iona Handcrafted Books....very beautiful workmanship; just exactly what I was hoping for! ....kim foster

Another hidden Freemont gem. Behind the PCC on 34th and into the alley, Iona awaits. Mychal is an expert at the craft of making journals. As someone who carries multiple journals and uses them daily, Iona is a treat. You can smell the leather reclaimed from various other industries when you step into her shop. There are dozens of neatly rolled sheets awaiting the next journal. The shop is there for bookmaking, and you can see the care and craft that goes into each journal. Take your time to examine the books and the reclaimed hinges and fastenings. Each book is unique, and you have an heirloom piece when you leave the shop. Mychal provides three different types of paper. As a long-time fountain pen writer, I look for ghosting, smearing, and bleed-through. None of these were evident with my fountain pen. For the pen geeks, it is a Visconti Van Gogh fine point tip and Noodlers' red ink. Treat yourself to a journal for your thoughts, expressions, and memories. Yes I’m speaking business, sisterhood , honor for craft and humanity! I don’t know who makes your journals but you’re missing out on an ORIGINAL GRAFTSWOMAN‼️?????????????? Where should I begin?! Mychal is an incredible craftsperson. She creates beautiful books. Each of the books I have purchased have been a joy to use (paper is amazing) and the leather soft. She is a perfectionist with a big heart, and makes books filled with positive energy. Any choice will be great, you can't go wrong... over and over again!

My husband purchased an Iona Handcrafted Journal for me as a gift 4 years ago and I used it to journal our trips together. It has lovely thick bamboo pages with feathered edges bound in a beautiful, supple leather. Because it is hand bound the pages lay flat which is comfortable for writing. I took the journal everywhere we went so I could write while he drove. Writing on the lovely pages feels as special as the memories. When I came to my last page I decided to see if I could purchase another. To my delight I found Mychal’s web site. I ordered another journal the same size in another leather. It just arrived and is as beautiful as my first journal.

I'm so happy to find Iona Handcrafted Books after searching for a pretty leather writer's journal for a special gift!! The journal arrived so fast as promised and I was overcome with sensory delight when I opened it and saw the beautifully put-together package and the warm smell and feel and stunning beauty of this journal. I never thought such quality and craftsmanship could even be bought. Mychal gives loving care beyond mere words.

These are the best handmade quality journals you can buy!! The beautiful surplus leather makes every book unique and the binding is strong and sturdy - built to weather all travel and inspires documentation of observations, thoughts and memoirs. I've journaled for over 33 years and now these are the only journals I use! Absolutely in love with Mychal's handcrafted books!!! You won't be disappointed!

Bought 2 handmade journals to make scrapbooks for my sons who are just launching. The navy leather is scrumptious and gets better with age. You can chose your paper to match use. I’m a writer who likes to draw, so I went with watercolor paper.

Just purchased my second Iona leather journal after a dear friend gifted me one four years ago. After filling the first with memories, dreams, musings, and watching the journal get softer and supple after each passing year I knew I had to get another. What treasures these...idk I can't call them just book or journals, but art, handcrafted with experts hands. I feel like I'm holding a piece of Middle Earth when I write in these...Thank you so much for creating these treasures.

I had a great experience looking for some handmade journals as an anniversary present. Mychal met me at the store and was super informative and all around a great person to just have a conversation with. The journals are beautiful and clearly reflect the same passion and excitement Mychal brings in person.
