Great place to stay while you're birding in the area. My friend and I stayed in a comfortable and well equipped unit with little courtyard and gardens all around the units, plus black bellied whistling ducks hanging in the back garden. Ours was down the block from the main entrance and common dining area. Lots of food available for breakfast plus some nice bird paraphenalia, maps, info, etc. Highly recommend it. They also provide names of local birding guides--we called one and chanced upon a great small group tour with Ninja Nature Tours.

This inn is an older establishment, so rooms are functional and comfortable; but nothing fancy. The communication and service when arranging for a small group to visit was excellent. The cooked breakfast and available snacks were perfect for the group of bird enthusiasts who spent long days in the field.Keith communicated well prior to and during our visit; and we enjoyed our stay at the Inn.Safety: The inn is located on the town square, so there are plenty of people around, and businesses nearby that lend an air of safety even at night. Plenty of lighting in the parking lot.Walkability: The rooms are located both in the historic building on the square and a short walk to additional rooms on the opposite end of the square. Restaurant in walking distance.Food & drinks: Hot breakfast and snacks included in price. Staff was responsive to any special food related needs.

In 2017 two friends and I made reservations at the Alamo Inn for a few nights as we spent time birding the Lower Rio Grande River valley. The Alamo Inn had been recommended by a friend who raved about this amazing place in Alamo. Surely I thought the facility and staff could not live up to his enthusiasm, but I was proved wrong as Keith and the staff at the AI not only lived up to expectations, but exceeded them! My friends and I vowed to return to the Alamo Inn, but it took us 17 years. The Inn, the facility and the staff were every bit as welcoming and wonderful as I remembered as my wife and I spent four wonderful days birding in the greater Alamo area. Sabal Palms, Santa Anna, Bentsen State Park, Edinburg Marshes and several other terrific birding locations were on our itinerary. Keith was most helpful in making recommendations of places to visit and his suggestions were spot on. The Alamo Inn is a real treasure, run by folks who are thoughtful and caring in their efforts to provide quality accommodations for birders and for folks looking for a reasonable and comfortable place to stay. I hope it is not 17 years before my next visit!!Rooms: Our rooms were very comfortable with a bedroom, bathroom, living area and kitchen provided which met all of our needs.Nearby activities: There are many fabulous birding spots located nearby and Keith can offer good advice for visiting those locations.Walkability: The Garden Suites where we stayed are a separate building with lovely landscaping, located 150 yards from the main building. There is a terrific Mexican restaurant located right across the street from the main office.

A lodging experience like no other, 500% recommended! The staff are not just helpful and friendly, they go out of their way to know you. Our suite in the new garden unit was lovely and comfortable, with everything we needed. Eric welcomed us at the front desk and escorted us to our lodging. Keith the proprietor is obviously devoted to the birding community. Marisol introduced us to Mr Goose, and to the resident buff-bellied hummingbird outside our door. If you are looking to go birding in this area, do not miss the Alamo Inn.

What a comfortable, welcoming, and relaxing place to stay. Birders push themselves hard, up early, out in heat and wind, and walking for hours. The Alamo understands all this and does a great job at enabling us to focus on birds.Rooms are charming, clean, and comfortable. People here at Alamo are so kind and helpful, Keith, the proprietor, Eric in the office, and Marisol, the housekeeper.Breakfast is self service but anything you want is available, including a wonderful selection of tea. A delightful and relaxing inn. You should stay here!Nearby activities: So many places to find birds, a wealth of choices!

We stayed in the Alamo Inn garden building, a lovely room with all the comforts of home, plus access to a garden and hummingbird feeders. The 24/7 help-yourself buffet is terrific for birders wanting to get going super early, with everything you need for breakfast, lunch and snacks, including hard boiled eggs and a variety of lunchmeat and sandwich makings. The honor-system birders store has everything you could need, from clothing to a great assortment of field guides. Highly recommended, we can’t wait to return again! Thank you to Keith and all the staff!

The place to stay for birders and nature enthusiasts. Can't say enough about how great of a hotelier and person Keith is. Perfectly placed in the middle of the Rio Grande Valley, making it a great jump off point for exploring the birds of the area.

What a treat it was to find this birder–friendly B&B. My suite was spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable, and it was the cleanest place I’ve stayed in in my life. The furniture might be old, not stylish, but it’s all exceptionally clean. And I love that I could get food, coffee, tea, anytime the day or night. There were some mornings I left extremely early to search out of birds, and I loved that I could let myself in and get a grab and go breakfast. Thanks Keith, I’ll certainly be back!

This was our 9th stay with Keith at the Alamo Inn in 13 years. We wouldn't stay anywhere else! Keith is an excellent, easy going host, and his birding clientele is quiet and respectful of others. We always feel safe here and enjoy our chats with other birders we bump into. We enjoy both the inclusive feeling the historic inn conveys as well as the king size beds in the newer building. After a long tiring flight down, we normally walk across the street for a Mexican meal. Parking is easy, and everything is simple at the Inn which is perfectly situated in the middle of the LRGV. We are fans!

This place was my home away from home for a week and the room and the service was as if I was staying with good friends. Great staff, clean room, also centrally located to all the birding sightseeing.Rooms: The rooms have character and very comfortable. If there was one ding it would have been my room didn’t have regular TV stations on the TV, to be fair I never mentioned it. I was too busy birding to care, I am sure it was a simple oversight in my room.Noteworthy details: If you are coming to the RGV for birding this is the place to stay. The owner is very knowledgeable about birding and the community. I would have been lost with out his recommendations.

This is the third year in a row that I've stayed at the Alamo Inn B&B when I've come to the Rio Grande Valley to do bird photography. It is centrally located, very reasonable and it's easy to meet others there, or in the restaurant on the corner, to share information with, a couple of whom are still my friends. Highly recommended.

Stayed at Alamo Inn B&B because it was recommended by a local birding friend. It was perfect in every way for our 3 days of birding. Convenient to many birding sites. Safe. Close to some locally-owned restaurants. Clean. Has a nice birding store. Good breakfast and lunch fixings. And coolers to pack your lunch if you forgot yours ?. Highly recommended. David from Dallas
