His bed side manner may be unpleasant for some but he saved my squirrels life. Without over charging. He educated me in the nicest possible way he could and I am grateful for him!!!!! He is the only vet within a 50 mile radius that tends to such sweet creatures as my squirrels. I am so very thankful for him!!!!

My pet bird was sick and by the time we got there he had passed away. I don’t know the vets name but he was an older man with a white beard, HORRIBLE bedside manners. He said “yes, he’s passed, I’m sorry. What are they like 8.99?” Referring to a parakeet. And as we left he said “better luck next time!”. Absolutely disgusting. I will never be going here again.

Absolutely recommend! Not sure what the other reviews are referring to but Dr Hitchcock was amazing and helped our fur baby. He was able to get us in to be seen within a matter of minutes and was very gentle and calming. Thank you, Dr Hitchcock!

The best vet in Abilene, hands down.

I love this Patriot! He's the real deal. He gets right to the heart of the issue. He's professional, courteous, helpful, punctual, knowledgeable, & takes care of everything from greeting you, answering the phone, & taking care of your fur baby. I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to be able to have that kind of service for me personally coming from big cities like Miami & Los Angeles. I definitely recommend him. If you're looking for someone to be your friend, small talk, & be ginger with everything, then this is not the vet for you. The only thing I would add is the large scale needs to be recalibrated & getting a baby scale for cats & small dogs under 20lbs would be helpful. None the less, love this guy!

I needed to get a missing vaccine for a last minute boarding for my cat. I appreciated how the vet was very accommodating and said he could take him in the same day. However, the facility and exam room were incredibly disorganized, dark and looked filthy. He handled my cat very aggressively which caused the cat to become very defensive and vocal - he then said he was too scared to touch my cat and that he didn’t have anything to protect himself against him. He was incredibly rude during the whole interaction and was borderline screaming, I should have listened to reviews about bedside manner and the facilities. Myself and other friends have been to many vets that are like this with cats - do not offer to care for cats if you don’t know how to work with them.

Took my cat here to get neutered. The place reeked of urine I should've left right then. My poor cat was covered in urine when I came to pick him up. I had to bathe him and then bleach and wash his cat carrier twice to get the stink out. I had to throw away the towel I had put down in the carrier. Who knows how long my poor cat sat in his own urine right after surgery! Unsanitary and I'm lucky he didn't end up with an infection. The price was cheaper than others and now I know why.

We needed someone local who could trim our Conure’s beak and claws and after calling a lot of places, this is where we were eventually sent. I called and was able to get in right away and he did a great job and now our bird can eat and sleep comfortably without his beak interfering.
We’ll be going back as needed now.

He says he died from a dog bite although that may be correct but did he try to help him? NO! Did he examine him? NO! Did he talk shit about him? YES! He stood over him watching blood come from his life-less body and didn't even take a sec to see where the blood was coming from!!!! No examine no x-rays nothing. The owner of kratos asked him to please do something that's when he listened to his lungs that's all!!! He said his lungs are CLEAR and that he'll be fine and wanted to send him home with oral medicine until the owner asked if he can give him a shot... He didn't make it. He did as soon as they pulled up to their home. But yet his lungs were clear.....the owner even stated he's peeing blood and he said he was going to be ok.... I don't understand....were getting a lawyer!!!

Very happy with the service, communication, and knowledge!
I was a little hesitant trying this clinic because of the 3.5 star rating. But I called since my ferret was sick and nobody else wanted to see him.
Unfortunately, my ferret ended up passing away before I could get in the car.
But I liked the uncomplicated and friendly service I received on the phone, so I took my poodle here a couple months after my ferret passed. The dog had a lump on his belly. Dr. Hitchcock got us in the same day to do an exam. Two days later we were back to operate. Everything went well, my dog healed up beautifully. Dr. Hitchcock even called post op to check on him. On top of that, they only charged me $260 for everything, including exam, operating, and a week long antibiotics regime.

My elderly chihuahua mix (10 years old) was attacked by a large dog on a Friday morning. I called everywhere to see who could take her and also would accept a payment plan as I hadn’t gotten my check yet. He assured me that he took payment plans and to go ahead and bring her in. When I came in I was told to go weigh my dog myself, which really wasn’t a problem, then when I was asked for my information he was very short and was rushing me, also not too big of a deal. Then, as my dog is sitting on the exam table with two large gashes in her neck that are dripping blood everywhere, he looks at her paws instead and says “Her nails need to be cut too.” Yes, my dogs nails get long, it’s been a problem her whole life, I admit it’s a hassle cutting them and since she’s old I just let it slide a lot. BUT SHES HERE FOR TRAUMA TO HER NECK, SHE IS LEAKING LIKE A FAUCET ON YOUR TABLE. When we finally take her to the back, he has me put her in a kennel with a piece of newspaper down and says she’ll be ready this evening. No time, so I assume he’ll call me, vets always do. He calls me right before closing and says “Are you coming to get your dog?” Yes, I didn’t know she was ready but I’m on my way. He then asks if I have any money to put towards the bill. I say “No sir, I explained to you before I arrived that I get paid tomorrow, I wouldn’t be able to pay you today. I have $10 to my name.” He then laughs at me and says “We’ll then you can come pick her up in the morning and hangs up. Long story short, I paid $200 for my dog to simply be sewn up. She was filthy when I got her back, still covered in her own blood, her collar hadn’t even been removed (mind you she has some pretty serious neck wounds), and she has clearly urinated on herself, I could smell it. He only sent me home with 6 antibiotic pills, no pain relievers, no cone, nothing. Now, 6 days later, I’ve had to take her to ANOTHER vet and spend $400 more to be told she has an abscess and her wounds are now infected. Sorry, but 0/10 do NOT recommend this vet.

Dr. Hitchcock was great with my dog. She is old and has congestive heart failure. I had just moved to Abilene and needed to refill her medication. He provided the medicine and also offered advice that helped me make her more comfortable. He is a big man and he was very kind and gentle with my 8 pound dog.
