Really great community center which was built fairly recently. My daughter attend the after school program and the camps they have during breaks. There are trails, a playground, park, tennis courts and basketball courts.

I’ve been coming to this gym for a few months now. I’ve always felt welcomed and that the overall energy is accepting and positive. However, my visit yesterday changed this perspective.I walked in ready to scan and was immediately asked by a female employee if I was able to zip my jacket up. I was confused by the question at first. She proceeded to tell me that they “prefer if everything’s covered.” I didn’t know what that meant, or what specifically the issue was since it was the same outfit I’d been wearing to that gym for months. Was the issue that I had on a tank top? Was the issue that my mid drift was barely showing? Was the issue a matter of sweat on machines? I don’t know because it wasn’t explained to me. I was just told I had to be covered up. In a long sleeve jacket. While doing a full workout. This put me in an awful mindset. I felt ashamed of my body, and felt as if I was doing something wrong. All I wanted to do was workout. So I tried. After doing 3 exercises fully clothed I felt extremely out of breath due to being overheated. At this point I noticed another female employee (who was present at the front desk) coming in to CHECK on me! I wondered if she was going to tell the MALE gym member that had been on a phone call the entire time to move to the lobby, but no! Just check on me. She came back in a few minutes later to check again. So I was being policed. How unacceptable. There are signs listed on the gym door that explain dress code, AS WELL AS address not speaking on the phone while in the gym. Somehow my body is more of a distraction than a very loud phone call that echoes across the room.If the problem was with attire, that would be one thing. But after witnessing male gym members (including male employees) dressed in tanks that show their nipples (who cares), I realize the issue is about controlling women’s bodies. Maybe working out in a big t-shirt and jacket wouldn’t be an issue if there was a fan in the gym, but there isn’t. I get hot very quickly and find it much easier to perform in a tight tank than a big t-shirt.I would prefer to be a member at a gym that was more welcoming and encouraging. It’s not 1910, why are people still policing women’s bodies and making them feel guilty and shaming them for wearing gym attire AT A GYM?I realize you can make any rules you want. However, you should be enforcing the rules for everyone, not just female customers. I hope you consider changing this rule, or at least stating why it’s in place. And I hope employees can explain it better to customers and not make anyone feel as ashamed as I did.
