Had a good experience here even though it rained the day we went. I’m not from TN so went on a day off trying to find things to do here. Wasn’t a bad day at all. Actually got engaged at this zoo the day we went. Rain and all. I won’t ever forget the experience. We would go again. Bought our tickets online. Went straight in with no wait. Was great! The only thing is, a lot of the park was closed off for construction. We would like to go back when we can actually see everything.

Absolutely love this place. Polite staff, amazing landscaping, I love the specimens tree and weeping conifers. Beautiful and well taken care of animals of course. I love taking my son. We have a membership, worth it if you have little ones.

It is a wide place to walk, you need at least 4 hours to walk through it all, taking not much time in each area, the staff is courteous, the place is clean, the animals seem to be well cared for, and there is a wide variety of them, some Very common in the areas of Central America, South America, Brazil, aquariums, live corals, a variety of fish, birds, tigers, pumas, but we did not see Giraffes, zebras and Lions.
They also have training games with an additional price, there are also kiosks where they sell drinks or snacks, coffee, sweets, popcorn, a cafe and a restaurant area that offers pizzas, hamburgers, etc. also a souvenir shop where you can find t-shirts, magnets for the refrigerator
We spent a very entertaining afternoon at the zoo, what I liked most was seeing live corals, being able to be very close to the kangaroos and the goats.
The ticket does not include parking, which doesn't seem fair to me, an extra 8 dollars, we bought the tickets online which does not apply any discount so if you have a document that can benefit you to receive it, it may be better if you buy when you arrive at the place .

Although the parking garage is a great added structure and the entrance will look nice when completed, we were very disappointed in the lack of animals. There were no elephants or giraffes (which is one of my favorites). There was only 1 black bear and tiger. No variety of monkeys or bears. This Zoo needs to offer more animals & variety of animals before we will be back..besides being more concerned in the appearance of the grounds!!

Beautiful zoo but very few animals for it's size. Not enough large animals (giraffes said it was closed, only one small bear and no gorillas) and way to many closed for repairs. The rhino exhibit was closed for a private birthday party. It's been 15 years since I was last here and they have fewer animals than they did then. Do yourself a favor go to St Louis or Chattanooga.

Very well laid out zoo. I would recommend going during the week. The amount of children being allowed to run free, screaming and yelling, and tormenting the animals makes it hard to enjoy, but a beautifully laid out zoo with the intent of preserving our world’s endangered species is worth the drive. I enjoyed most of all visiting the original homestead - Grassmere.

I felt like asking for my money back! Me and my family of 4 + my mother in law was so excited to finally get to go to this zoo but after walking through this, We was so so disappointed ?. This is THE WORST ZOO I've EVER been to for the price! We seen plenty of farm animals. We didn't hardly see any exotic animals, and lots of exhibits was closed. We seen more people then animals. We won't be back! I've seen WAY better zoo's elsewhere.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon, overall after visiting maybe ten or twenty different zoos and animal sanctuaries this is the worst so far. Every twenty or thirty feet is another food or souvenir cart. There is no lack of money grabs. Paid nearly 300 for the annual pass and free rides for a family of four and immediately regretted it. The layout is hard to follow, only one map for one small section of the entire place. There aren't many exhibits and most of the animals weren't present in them. The only redeeming part of the visit was the playground for my 7 and 9 year olds. Out of the several water fountains maybe three or four were in order. Only one refillable water station and it was broken as well. Overall the intent of the zoo seems to be solely the bottom dollar. Usually zoos show clear signs of being environmentally friendly and aside from the paper straws and electric hand dryers there weren't many signs. 10/10 wouldn't suggest, we will most likely return since we've gotten the pass but most likely only because we're in town for some other reason and stop by for the kids to play on the playground.

Been to several zoos over the years, and while this one wasn't the worst, it definitely wasn't the best. The zip line wasn't working, we paid for nectar for the lorikeets and none of them showed any interest, nor did they with the people who were in the area with us. Once we got out and gave the nectar back that we paid $8 for, my husband said "I guess they're not hungry" and the employee said "well we've been really busy today so they're probably full". Mind you, this was the same employee who sold us the nectar to begin with. I told her they should put a sign up when that happens and was told "I have to wait on my boss to tell me to do that". So basically, they're taking money from people knowing the birds aren't going to drink the nectar. Pretty shady if you ask me. Not really a lot of animals to see either, just like the other reviews said. All in all, my family had a fun time, but things need to be improved.

New parking garage is great! Lots of space now (between normal parking and the first floor, second was not open). Times entry no longer a requirement, but if you don't have a membership, buy tickets online in advance to skip that line. Entry line immediately at opening is long. Either be ready to wait, or hang back half an hour to miss the initial rush.

I can't say enough great things about this place. We've visited some of the biggest zoos in the USA and this is one of our favorites. It's not very big but it's simply amazing. There's so many things to do there. If you have toddlers or kids, you MUST take them. This place has an incredible playground for kids and toddlers. My 1 year old had so much fun! The entire zoo is super clean. The staff are extremely sweet and helpful. The animals look so healthy and happy! The majority of the exhibits were available. Even the surrounding people visiting the zoo were so nice! Make this place a priority to visit. You won't regret it!!

Not worth the money. Barely had any animals, would not recommend.
