Everything you can’t get at Home Depot you get here. First of all you can get directed to what you’re looking for. Better yet you don’t have to search or wait for someone to help you, and they all are extremely knowledgeable. If you tell them your problem, they will direct you to the proper tools and even assemble them sometimes for you if assembly is required. It’s a friendly local store. It may be 1/10 the size of Home Depot, so there is a trade-off in terms of selection. And they don’t have all of the categories that Home Depot has. But they do get you to the right tools for your project. For handiwork they generally have what I need.

My husband and I love Hillsboro Hardware. They have everything - even the random around the house stuff that it feels like no one else has. Staff are super helpful and know where everything is. It's just a great place!

This is a true hardware store. I moved here from Scandinavia recently, and I had feared, that the only option would be the big-box format stores. Where you run around for hours, and nobody knows what they are talking about. This, however, is the real deal.

I respect someone who is not only passionate about what they do but willing to help those less knowledgable. This is the first place I go when I'm working on a home improvement project and realize I need extra tools, hardware, or advice. They are solid, reliable, and I leave feeling more informed. That's a rare experience. One that does not go un-appreciated.

This is one of those labyrinthine old hardware stores where every nook is chock full of useful things & every employee is essentially some subclass of wizard. They spent half an hour fixing my niece's glasses for free. Kind people, cool place.

A truly great hardware store. Friendly, knowledgeable, fair priced (reminds me of the hardware store in the David Wilcox song "East Asheville Hardware"). I use them for everything ... except work. Because the work card is an American Express and surprisingly they don't take that (and I can't get refunded on any other purchases other than that card). So that's disappointing but otherwise, love the place! (And a little Yelp hint: when you see a one-star review, like Lola in this thread, check their reviews. If all or most of their reviews are one-star (like Lola), they're not legit and only out to troll and can be disregarded).

The folks at Hillsboro Hardware were excellent to deal with! Another lighting company referred me to Hillsboro Hardware for lamp repair. They communicated clearly, took great care of my vintage lamp, said it could be up to two weeks for repair and had it back to me within a few days, within the price range they originally quoted. They've earned a returning customer in me! Highly recommend!

Staff always promptly greets and seems genuinely happy to help, unlike some big box hardware stores. Staff is knowledgeable about seemingly everything. There is so much more stuff fit inside this building than you'd think at first glance as you drive up. I've gone here for power tools, garden stuff, and getting garden tools sharpened. No waiting in long lines and no waiting 20 minutes just to get help. I find it less overwhelming than big box stores and much more pleasant. It's well organized which makes for easy shopping. Prices are good too. I love this place.
