I walked to the shop to pick up some items for a customer called the day before. Owner stated that we did not have the item there that it was in his van at his house.. I explained that I called the day before about picking up the table, the owner off and said he didn’t wanna hear it, I tried to explain myself again, cut me off and started yelling at me. So I told him I would go to his house and pick it up out of his van.. Front seat of his van there was a 38 special Smith & Wesson sitting on the floorboard to leave the van unlocked. I’m just warning everybody to watch themselves around this individual as he does psychopath Ways about him. Trust me, this guy likes you intimidate people, and yell at them when it is very uncalled for.

What a sham of a company. It’s embarrassing people like this are allowed to run a business. The owner is a crook. He stole my property and opened my mail. Do not give him your money. What an embarrassment to this city.

Absolutely lovely shop, but the prices are absolutely insane for most of the pieces there.

AVOID if possible! On Monday, July 24, my daughter (age 27) and I went shopping for a credenza for her new apartment. One place we stopped that day was Canterbury Cottage Antiques. The employees there were nice and helpful. My daughter saw a credenza she liked that was priced at $975. I asked the employees would they come down on the price. They asked a man who was sitting in the area and he asked a few questions and came back at $800. My daughter told them she needed to think about it. After a week of searching she could not get that credenza out of her mind. For her, that’s a lot of money, but she could afford it.Skip to yesterday, Sunday, July 30. My daughter calls to let me know she’s going to buy that credenza. She asks if I think they’ll come down further on the price, so I told her it would not hurt to ask. I was heading to her apartment to help her with some things while she went to the antique shop. The next thing I know? She comes in the door crying. One, because she’s mad (she cries when she’s mad). And two, because she did not get the credenza that she wanted. What transpired: She confirmed the credenza was there. She asked the man if he could come down on the price any further. He asked her what she was thinking. She said $750. He became rude like she had offended him and he told her $875. When she acted surprised by his countenance, he told her, “if you want cheap furniture you should go to a thrift store”. My daughter left the store mad, hurt and without a credenza.Would he have treated her that way if I were there? If she were a 27 year old man? I don’t know. But I do know that the way he behaved was rude and disrespectful to a potential customer. And she would have been a repeat customer because there were a few other things in the shop she was going to buy over time. And who knows, over time as her career progressed, how much business they might have had if that man was not so rude?I wanted to go in and have a conversation with the man, but my daughter did not want a confrontation. So we agreed that a Google review stating the facts would be appropriate. This antique store lost a sale(s). A future customer. Any future business from that customer’s family. That customer’s circle of friends. That customer’s family’s circle of friends.

I have gone back and forth about posting a review, as I work for a small business and take reviews very seriously.I want to begin by stating that my first experience here, I would’ve given the store 5 stars! The workers there were so helpful, and the selection was beautiful and interesting. I found a console table I was very interested in listed at $975. My dad was with me and asked if there was a better price, everyone working looked to this man and he stated he could do $800. This was a little more than I wanted to spend, so I decided to think on it, but purchased a gift and had plans to stop there regularly just to do some retail therapy.I went back a week later because I couldn’t stop thinking about the table and I brought my mom with me. We went and looked at it again and talked with the same man and reminded him of our previous conversation. I asked what he was thinking on pricing. He asked me what I was thinking, and I said I would like $750. I felt that was a fair starting point for price he had given a week before. He laughed at me and said that if I wanted something cheap I should go to a thrift store. Instead of leaving it at that, he just kept going about how they don’t sell cheap products and I should go elsewhere. When I asked what he was thinking for pricing, he stated he could do no less than $875 if I wrote a check. I left feeling extremely embarrassed, hurt and disappointed.I do not plan to return to this store and wouldn’t recommend to try and negotiate pricing unless you are an older person or an older man. If you are looking for a place that treats young woman as equals, I recommend the Franklin Antique Mall, where I found a beautiful console table and 70 South Antiques, where I found a Paul Phifer print I was planning to purchase at Canterbury.

One of the finest shops in Nashville. Gorgeous antiques, etc. I could have spent all day looking in their tiny shop and wanted to purchase everything. Lovely pieces from barometers to tables. Stunning!

Canterbury Cottage is a gem. I loved loved Pembrokes when it was there. I mourned Laura's leaving and was hopeful that the "new shop" would be just as good. Well it is, the owners Ronnie and Trisha really love to find antiques and most of all they just light up when they can you help you find your one of a kind or help you repurpose to fit your needs. Best yet, the shop is comprised of many sellers including Pembroke so we still get to see what Laura is up to. The staff are very kind and helpful. Highly recommend.
