From the moment you step into the dimly-lit studio, the energy crackles. The thumping bass and motivating instructor get your adrenaline pumping before you even clip into the red treadmills. And then, the fun (or pain, depending on your perspective) begins. My Barry's experience was brutal, exhilarating, and strangely addictive. It's not for the faint of heart (or those with questionable knees), but if you're looking for a challenge that'll leave you feeling stronger, fitter, and ready to tackle anything, this is it. I do wish their acoustics were a bit easier to understand the instruction for the workouts.

Barry's has a cult following and gives you a great workout if you put the work in. There's no denying that. I'm giving Barry's 4 stars because there are a few areas that could be greatly improved. (Note: some of the things that I dislike, may be the things that others love.)1. It's way too loud. If you need to provide ear plugs at the front desk, it's too loud! But thank goodness they DO have ear plugs.2. The instructor is 'teaching' two classes at the same time - floor, and tread. It's hard to hear what they are saying half the time, and hard to understand which class they are talking to. This makes it difficult to follow along, especially for newer folks. And of course, because there are so many people to just one instructor - who's teaching two classes in the dark - there's a lot of room for poor form and injury.Recommendation: lower the music and increase the instructor's mic volume. Have a set structure for tread for people to self-follow, and focus on instructing people on the floor.3. It's SO DARK. It's hard to see anything, and when you have to go back and forth between floor and treads, and put weights away in between, it makes it unnecessarily difficult to get around. At the very least, add some lights near the weights so people can see what they are picking up & can put them back safely.4. Chaotic - with the Barry's setup, in theory, it shouldn't be hard to put a process in place to make the transition from floor to tread simple. To put it bluntly - it's a hot mess when people are moving. Sometimes weights need to be returned. Then folks find their area. People wait around. Everyone crashes into each other. There's no organization at all and it's frustrating and probably cuts off an extra minute or two of class. It would be easy to add a tiny bit of structure to reduce this chaos when switching positions.

I've gone to Barry's for years in Seattle and Denver, and I've always loved my experience. The things that those locations have that the gulch location are lacking are friendly staff, a feeling of community, and motivating instructors. I really tried to like this place I've gone about ten times to give it a fair chance but unfortunately, no. During class it's really hard to hear over the music- when the instructor is talking into the mic, it's confusing... they're not super motivating, with the exception of Josh, and no one seems to remember your name. I know that sounds like big asks but for $25 a class it feels like the bare minimum. One time I came in from work in work clothes- because I was going to change in the restroom before class, and the front desk girl asked me how she could help me. If I hadn't gone to Barry's before that experience alone would've been intimidating enough to leave. In Seattle and Denver, we all were a community and we hung out and drank protein shakes after and the instructors remembered us... Little things like that really matter.

Barry’s was nice enough to let my university’s women’s workout club attend a class. It was an amazing workout. One of the hardest but the most fulfilling!!

I’ve been to more than 10 Barry’s (most frequently at my home East London location). This was by far the BEST customer service I’ve ever experienced thanks to Andrew at the front desk. His warm welcome, amazing energy and useful Nashville neighbourhood tips (especially The Russell!) complimented by the awesome workout made this my BEST Barry’s experience ever. Thank you!
