I love Backslide! I always find *incredible* yet down to earth pieces and the prices are super fair, in my opinion. Both owners are lovely people and I’ve always had a great time shopping there. Huge selection, great quality and if something isn’t right with the product they will make it right. I once bought a vest that didn’t work out and they let me exchange it for something better suited. Highly recommend as one of Nashville’s top vintage stores!!!

I’ve never written a google review. I’m sure in me doin so this will only result in a negative response with the owner since I’ve already experienced one. Why would the internet be any different? To be honest I’m not very comfortable with making this post because my name is now public to him.I came into the store on Saturday (today) to look for something to wear to my friends wedding in the flowing week. I know backslide to be very overpriced but I was in the neighborhood and decided to go against my better judgement. We exchanged hellos as I entered the store. There were a few other women in the store when I came in. After being there for a few minutes he came up to me and asked if I was okay. I said yes. It seemed weird. It was very abrupt and his body language was odd but I decided to brush it off.I found a few pieces that might work but needed to try them on. As I was walking into the dressing room he shouted at me to check in my bag. It was a small leather backpack bag where the zippers don't even zip. I was goin to look at their bags later for a replacement after I tried on the clothes. His tone and timing felt very much like a micro aggression. I brought my bag to the counter and tried to put all my valuables in the one compartment that sort of zips. He said nothing to me. No thank you, no sorry if this seems weird we’ve had issues or appreciate you. Nothing. Just awkward silence.I should note there are no signs posted about checking bags nor did he say anything to me about it when I entered the store or when he walked up and asked if I was okay. I had about 5 things in my hand at that moment so it was pretty obvious I was lookin to try things on.As I turned to go back into the dressing room a woman asked if she needed to check her bag. He asked to look at what she had and he said no. This whole interaction was really upsetting. I didn’t want to buy clothes at this point but decided to try them on anyway. There were a couple of pieces that could have worked but I had such a bad taste in my mouth I decided I didn’t want to spend my money there.I exited the dressing room with all the items to return to the counter- there was my bag right where I left it. Sitting on the counter in the wide open. It made me even more upset. He walked up asking if any worked and I said no. I decided to confront him. I asked why he checked my bags and not others. I told him he made feel uncomfortable, that there were no sighs posted about checking bags to which he told me he didn’t have to post signs. I told him I couldn’t have taken anything with such a small bag to which said yes I could. I told him over and over he made feel uncomfortable, he decided to talk over me, try to shut me down and tell me it wasn’t personal but case by case. So yes personal. I asked why he left my bag on the counter for anyone to take to which he said he was watching it. He wasn’t , when I left the dressing room he was messing with some clothing rack outside of the dressing room. IF YOU ARE SO CONCERNED WITH PEOPLE STEALING YOUR INVENTORY -DO NOT BE SO RECKLESS WITH THEIR PERSONAL BELONGINGS WHILE THEY ARE COMPLYING WITH YOUR MADE UP IN THE MOMENT RULES.If you’re are going to check bags, check all bags, tell people in the beginning, be polite , and be more responsible with belongs. Hold them behind desk where someone else can’t grab them. Finally if someone tells you that you made them feel uncomfortable, do not shut them down, speak over them and tell them they are wrong. You came across as another misogynistic man who doesn’t care about what a woman has to say. Not considering for a second that your behavior could be unwelcoming even if not intended to be so. You are an owner of the business and you should better.

I had a great time shopping here. I got a cute vintage tee and blockprint bandana that I'm saving for a gift - and even got to meet the shop pup! I think it was Caitlin that was in while I was here and she was super warm and welcoming.

I brought in friends from out of town to come shopping here on 3/12. The person working was texting on his phone the whole time and didn’t say a single word to us until he saw one of us holing a coffee and then asked to take it to the counter. He proceeded to go back to ignoring everyone in the store and be on his phone, then was fairly rude about putting items back after trying on. He seemed irritated that people were in the store. You could tell he didn’t care about his job, and unfortunately it reflects poorly on the store. I didn’t buy anything and probably won’t be back anytime soon. Advice to management - you’ve got something good going, but the customer service has got to get better if you want to live up to your potential ($$$). I know I’m not the only one that doesn’t like to spend money after an experience like this. From,A retail management veteran.

The selection is alright. Never impressed by the items here. It's well organized and the fitting rooms are spacious. I don't find this place to be as amazing as other reviewers and it's low on my list for thrifting in east. Prices are a little high especially for their t-shirt selection. Lack of sweatshirts. I've seen the same mugs in store for over a year, lower the prices.

THE BEST vintage boutique I’ve ever been to. I’ve been thrifting all over Nashville and I’ve never seen a better selection or met nicer employees. The first time I went in, Sarah was working and she was extremely helpful. I told her what I was looking for and my size and she picked out so many amazing items for me to try on. We had ourselves a little fashion show and quickly became friends. Honestly that’s the best shopping experience I’ve ever had. The next few times I went in I met the owners, Caitlin and Zack. Caitlin helped me get a stain out that I spotted at no extra charge! When I came back to pick up the item, naturally I found more to buy, and Zack fixed a loose button for me right then and there! SUPER nice and helpful staff. 10/10 all the stars y’all are amazing.

This was a terrible experience on Saturday, October 1st… due to the staff being rude. I saw a blue jacket I really liked and wanted to buy, I asked the younger male in the back of the house (he has silver hair) if the prices were firm as the jacket price was out of proportion with reality. He berated me like a child for asking this and began to lecture me on “if I knew what it took to run a business” and if I drove out of state to get thrift clothes…buddy we all have jobs that we do, I don’t need a lesson on what you did to get these used clothes. He also said “would you ask them at a mall if they are firm on price?” Well logical reasoning was no where to be found apparently because in a mall the clothes would be brand new at a lesser price than his prices and not used and 30 years old. Long story short, avoid this place. Many say on here the staff is rude and it’s true. They will keep losing customers until they get some training on how to talk to people. Wildly inappropriate. I really liked that jacket, didn’t buy.EDIT: RESPONSE TO STAFF FEEDBACK BELOW!Zach, about 7% of your response was true. I really hoped you would tell the truth on this but your feedback is events that just didn’t happen. You said you were helping someone when I approached you? You were eating and when I walked up, you then put your food down to ask what I needed. I asked if you were firm on prices, and that I liked the jacket at 25. Verbatim you said “That’s offensive” and I said that Is why I was asking, then you went into a tantrum about how many states you travel to get used clothes as if you’re the only one who works a job. In your response you said I said “20” for the jacket, so clearly your memory is a bit fuzzy. You asked if anything was wrong with the jacket and I “sheepishly” said no? That’s false, I said it’s worn and had small tears from being 30 years old which is fine. You stated in your feedback the jacket was pristine and immaculate…were we looking at the same jacket? And you would of course put examples of the jacket being 160 dollars. There are a handful of ones for $25 online which I ended up buying. Hmmm…25 is the price I liked too. You can write up any nonsensical jargon about the experience to sugar coat the bad reviews. Also 4 other vintage shops on the strip there in Nashville WELCOME negotiations and offers on their items. Happy to discuss anytime in person or on phone!

I've shopped at a lot of vintage and thrift stores in East Nashville and this by far my least favorite. Staff was rude and condescending. Prices were all marked up under the guise of vintage, you can literally go around the corner and find far more reasonably priced vintage clothes.
