An absolute lying crook, he worked on my daughter's Yukon, first he lied about what repairs where made and then refused to do anything about it when the engine failed due to shotty work

Highly Recommend! Showed up without an appointment to have the air conditioner on my 1992 Honda converted from R-12 to R-134. The folks at Appalachian Auto Repair had it done in a few hours for a reasonable price.

I called on a Tues and was told to bring my car in that following Wed. I told the man on the phone my car make and model and the issues I was having with the check engine light coming on, and also asked if it was OK to drop it off at 8am instead of 9 bc I had to be at work. The man said that was fine. Fast foward a week to Wed morning. I leave my car outside the gate at ten til 8 so I could be at work on time. I called them at 230 pm to ask if they knew what was wrong with my car. The man I spoke with told me he didn't know why the car was left there but then asked me my name and phone number and what issues it was having. So I said it hasn't been checked then?"The man then got an attitude and said he talks 240 to 50 people a day and has no way of knowing why the car is there . My reply to that was why would you tell me to bring it and drop it off and not write it down . So not only did he waste my entire day by keeping my car but I waited a full week for it to be looked at. He asked me why I didn't call to let him know why it was there and I said I already did the week before and I did exactly what he told me to do by dropping it off . He said that he didn't open until 9:00 and that it's not his fault that I had to be at work . And I replied which is why I told you when I spoke to you last week that I would be dropping it off at 8:00 because I had to be at work and you said that was fine . Since it was obvious to me by then that this man is obviously not a professional and does not care whether he does somebody right or not or keeps his word I hung up and went to get my car .When I got to Appalachian I requested to speak to the owner and the man that I was on the phone with happened to be him . I told him that I had just spoke with him on the phone and he said that he remembered who I was after he got off the phone with me and remembered speaking to me the previous week . Before I could say anything else The Man became hostile and demanded to know why I didn't call him and let him know my car was there . This of course blows my mind because I did call him and I followed his instructions about leaving my car. He said that I didn't give him a name or a phone number or anything else and I said you never asked me for a name or a phone number you asked for the make and model of my car and if you had done your job you would have wrote it down and then when you seen that that car was outside your gate you would have looked at it like you said you were going to! His attitude towards me was very condescending and belittling and by then I'd had enough . I told him thank you for wasting my time making me wait a week and keeping my car all day when I could have already had it looked at somewhere else , a professional , who cared about his customers and whether or not he did them right and did good business. He then told me that he was done arguing with me and that I could leave. So I said you are a terrible businessman and quite frankly and asshole and I will tell everyone that I can about how you run your business and how you treat people and potential customers. He then called me a bitch and told me he had better things to do than to argue with me about this . Since I am a woman who values keeping her word I'm leaving this review on this man , I think his name is Ivan , who says he's the owner of Appalachian Auto Repair , to let people know just how he does run his business and how he treats a potential customer he is hands down the worst mechanic /owner I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with I wish it were possible to give him negative Stars

I've known the owner for 20+ years. He is one of the best. He stands behind the work coming out of his shop. I drive from Knoxville to get my vehicles serviced.

Do you want a best friend or a good mechanic? I broke down 20 miles north of Morristown on a Friday night on my way back home to Arizona. Appalachian Auto was one of the few places open on a Saturday. Read some good reviews and had my truck towed there. Called an hour after they opened and they had already looked at my truck and had a game plan. What Ivan lacks in conversation he makes up for in efficiency. His phone presence may give you doubts but put your mind at ease. Being a Toyota parts needed to be ordered but he had my truck squared away and ready by Tuesday. When I picked up my truck I understood his shortness over the phone, the man is BUSY. I had a timing belt and water pump replaced and it was done at a VERY reasonable price. It's nerve racking breaking down in an unfamiliar place and not knowing who you're dropping your vehicle off to but I made the right choice, Ivan was a man of few words but I'm very grateful to him and his crew. So I ask you, do you want good conversation or a good mechanic??

They fixed the problem with my car for a reasonable price. However I wasn't impressed that when I dropped it off for the appointment they didn't seem to know anything about it and I had to give them my info again, including the details of the problem. Instead of writing up a work order or estimate he just jotted it down on the blotter on his desk. He said he couldn't give me an exact cost for evaluating it because it depended on what tests they decided to do. They promised to evaluate it and call me back that day or the next but never did. I called them 2 days later and found they had been working on it and had ordered parts to see if it fixed the problem (even though I had not authorized any repairs). They said they could return one part if I didn't want it but the other (spark plugs) would not be returnable after trying it. Also, they were too busy to work on my car themselves so they transferred it to a garage a couple miles away without telling me. I might not have had a problem with the repair time, parts, or subcontractor if they had just communicated it in advance instead of waiting until I asked afterward to explain it.
