December 2020 by Dee G.
On October 16, 2019 between my father and I went to the Commercial Bank and Trust on the corner of Union Ave in Memphis, TN. My dad informed Stephanie that he wants to set up his account to where if anything happen to him I could handle his affairs. She took it as he meant to add me to his account so she ran my credit without advising me of it first, then she came back and advised us that she could not add me to his account because my credit was not good enough and the only way they would be able to add me to the account was if it was as a POD (beneficiary of your account) and I said like a beneficiary and she said yes and my father said "well let's do that" and she said ok. Stephanie gave us some sort of document to fill out and sign. Stephanie then said she would handle it and for us to have a good day. We left and I felt some type of way about the service received mainly because when you go into a bank they tell you first they are going to run your credit just so you have the opportunity to tell them yes it is ok or no I do not want you to run my credit. My father passed on December 4, 2020 so on December 18, 2020 I went to the bank to advise them that my father had passed and to solely just get info on the account and if the obituary would be a good enough document to close out the account. Stephanie advised me that we did not add you to the account because there was some issue. I asked what type of issue could you have just being a beneficiary? Stephaine stated because of my credit but what do my credit have to do with being the beneficiary and it being my fathers request? I looked at her with disbelief and said my father added me as the beneficiary and he sign some document which she asked if I had the document I said no. Stephaine did not give any document to me and advised my father she would take care of it. Stephanie said you are not on the account I said ma'am you added me as the beneficiary you said you would. She look again then turn around said something to someone behind her then turn back around at me pulled herself closer to the window and said to me y'all going to have to pay a lawyer and fight for this in court and from the expression on her face she seemed like she was smiling like she knew what she did was wrong (Stephanie had her mask on but you could tell by her brows that she was smiling). She purposely didn't add me to my fathers account. My thought, is that there is something fishy going on regarding Stephanie. I am writing this because I am willing to bet she has done this to a few customers mainly to a few other African American customers so I strongly advise if you have a account with Commercial Bank and Trust on Union Ave in Memphis, TN and was served by Stephaine (the lady who looks like she could be a male) to double check and make sure your account is in order in regards to what they call POD aka beneficiary listed on your account. I called and asked to speak with a manager which a voice message was left by the same person informing me to do the exact same thing about getting a lawyer word for word. Of course my father is deceased now but he stated To Stephaine "I want to add my daughter to my account as beneficiary ". However she did not execute this document as per his request (see above comment that Stephanie made when we met with her). I am quite sure there are cameras in the bank that you can roll back to view in the day we met with Stephanie which would prove we were there in which was the basis of our visit.

We've been very happy since we switched to Commercial Bank. It's a very personal bank, and they really strive to get to know all their customers and take good care of them. There are no tellers or big glass walls here - they buzz you into the building, then you sit at a desk talking to a real human. It's great.

I went to this bank on Union Ave to talk to someone about a mortgage loan or a Helco loan. The lady who i spoke with immediately said to me when we met that she had 3:00 appointment to go to which was about 5 minutes away. I really thought this was very rude of her and unprofessional. She did give me a app. and her business card and to come to find out she is the Vice-President of the bank. Needles to say i will not be back to this bank for any business!
