How can you go wrong with a cafe with a full, separate vegan menu, especially when it’s inside a used bookstore? Oh, and did I mention the game and movie “dungeon” in the basement? What an awesome shop! So glad we decided to stop here on our way to the Knoxville airport (it’s conveniently only about ten minutes away). For starters, the person that helped take our order was super friendly and personable. Other guests in line welcomed us and told us we had found a good spot to eat. The sandwiches are named after famous literary figures. For example, we ordered the Ada Lovelace (a breakfast wrap with Just Egg) and the Mary Shelley (a chickpea salad sandwich). They were great! If we lived in the area, we would surely spend a lot of time at Southland. Definitely worth stopping in if you’re in town or heading to/from the Knoxville airport.

I love the sandwiches in the cafe. They have a FULL vegan menu with SO many options. I lovd the house made pickle with ny sandwiche. We got generous portions so no room for dessert today but it all looked really good. Next time I will get dessert to go. The bookstore is attached and well stocked and organized. I love their community board too. I have been to fundraising events downstairs in The Bird & The Book and had alot of fun. The owner is also cool as heck.

This is one of my absolute favorite places to explore books, relax, eat a delicious meal, and meet up with friends! Oh and did I mention the extensive gluten free food options available?! I could take a bath in the chicken salad! Lisa and the staff are fantastic! I love every minute I get to spend here! What a treasure!!

This store is my happy place! Everyone is always friendly, and the book selection is unmatched. Being surrounded by shelves upon shelves of old (and some not-so-old) books is magical. And the cafe!! Most everything is made in-house and tastes like it (the vegan pimento cheese and vegan cheesecake cups are to die for!)
Very queer friendly ? i can’t recommend enough!

Super knowledgeable staff, extremely welcoming (it was the first time I'd been there in quite a while, and Lisa made sure to show me around to where anything and everything I might need would be), TONS of in-store and after hours activities, there is definitely something for everyone ?
