If you are thinking about adopting an animal- look no further than the Blount County Animal Center; they have professional IN HOUSE veterinarians that treat and examine ALL animals that come in- and they give the animals all shots that they need - before you adopt the animal at no charge. All animals are tested for their temperament and tolerances to other cats, dogs and children-so you will know about the animals personality (in the case of a cat- PURRSONALITY) before you take it home. -- Every animal has a clipboard with a description of the animals personality , age, sex, and more info on their cage.
if you are concerned about the price of paying for the animal you are adopting- their adoption fees are very cheap, because all the animal lovers at Blount County Animal Center want you to experience the joy of being owned by an animal. Also, this shelter is very responsible- they ALWAYS QUARANTINE the animals when they are first brought in-to prevent communicable diseases from spreading. if you are thinking about "buying" a purebred animal from a breeder or looking on Craigslist for a pet- I would highly discourage you from doing so. For one thing- at this stage in history, purebred animals are INBRED- which means they are prone to having SEVERE health/personality problems. Even if you purchase a purebred animal from a reputable breeder who is AKC registered---- the animal WILL STILL HAVE MAJOR HEALTH PROBLEMS.
it is no exaggeration that 2.7 MILLION cats and dogs are put down every year-in the USA alone- this is NOT due to temperament- THIS IS BECAUSE THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HOMES FOR ALL OF. THE ANIMALS>. so for the love of god - PLEASE STOP BREEDING ANIMALS TO MAKE MONEY

A lovely place with lovely people. We fostered to adopt two kittens (Pinocchio aka Gnocchi, and Figaro aka Figar Mortis ) could not have been a more pleasant experience. Staff was so amazing and helpful, and the facility was very clean. We immediately fell in love with these sweet fur babies and they complete our little family.

The employees are nice. My neighbor calls them on my dogs regularly for no good reason just as a way to cause problems and I wish proof was required before officers came to my home to give me a paper warning. Meanwhile my other neighbor who dates police officers let's her Bull Mastiffs run all over the neighborhood, circle and growl at people and recently attacked another neighbors tiny puppy but that's no big deal.

VERY nice facility. Our dog went on a walkabout. The 'finder' took him here, they scanned his chip, we got him back. simple.

Adopted a 10 year old male cat three
weeks ago. Max is doing great, still trying to fit in with another cat but were getting there. This facility was the best one of 10 we traveled to and would highly reccomend their services.

Took a dog in that did not work out for me. Tried to contact them a few days later to check on him, and they would not get back hold of me.I am amending this review. I did not adopt the dog from BCAC. I adopted elsewhere because the dog was going to be euthanized. As someone who has always adopted from shelters, and always had dogs, this particular dog was unfortunately not going to work out. He was too much for my wife to handle when I was at work (wife is disabled), so in his best interest of finding a better home, than my situation, I gave him up. I was never a person who wanted to have a dog in a cage or a chain. I had a huge backyard for him to be free in, but he jumped on my wife one day, and it almost broke her arm. Although I surrendered him, I still loved him, and had called to check on him and see how he was, and no one would ever communicate with me. All I wanted to know is that he found a home, and was doing well, because I never saw any pictures of where he had been adopted. I am sorry about the misleading comment that I had adopted him from BCAC. I have attached a couple pictures. Thank you.
