UTCVM is an amazing place! Every person on the team is upbeat, knowledgeable & compassionate. We are so fortunate to have them in our state.

Worst experience, 5 hours, $355, for labs and that's it, plus they took her, my dog, to the back and I have no idea what they even did. I would not go back!

If I could give a lower rating I would I'm not sure where to start during this whole disappointing experience the vet was cold and callous and was more concerned about money than the welfare of my pet after paying $500 I feel like I received the absolute minimum level of care and effort for my beloved pet. I paid for X-rays they did not even x-ray the primary area in question simply referring me to my primary vet for further X-rays the receptionist was rude to my daughter and son the vet,in speaking with my wife, was cold callous and more interested in the economics of the situation then providing compassionate Care I will under no circumstances return to the UT veterinarian school and I would encourage anyone with a pet needing emergency care to go anywhere elsebut here

Not impressed at all when I brought my dog. They wanted $$$$ for surgery and our chiropractor has gotten the dog back to normal in less than a month. I met 3rd year 'students' that know very little about basic care and common sense care, like nutition.

So my son took his dachshund Molly to the vet and they refered her to UT animal clinic ,,it turned out to be a cancerous mass in her stomach ,So we had the option of putting her down then or try surgery to remove the mass . so i helped him pay for it .they wanted $3500 down so we payed it ,so she had the surgery and was in recovery for three day and all was going well UNTIL the said that the sutures in her intestine didnt do right for some reason so they said we needed to put her down that she couldnt with stand another surgery SO with a heavy heart we had let her go ,so then my son goes to pick her up 3 days later and they hit him with another $3500 charge ,So I payed it for him , $7000 in all only to bring her home in a boxALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY MONEY MONEY

It is difficult to say that after working at UT College of veterinary medicine for more than a decade I would be reluctant to take my own animals there now. Many of the clinicians are wonderful but some not so much and the general public are unaware of this. The students are awesome and put up with a lot of abusive behavior from staff and some faculty. Some staff members have even feel it is their right to make students do their jobs for them. These are students paying 100's of thousands of dollars to become veterinarians and staff members are making them do the work of the employees who are being paid. Administration does not seem to have a problem with this. Administration also has a policy of covering up mistakes made, which is never a good practice. When someone does something wrong and a patient is injured or dies the policy is to cover up what happened and even charge the client for costs resulting from that mistake. However if an "important " client shows up (donor or politician or even politician's girlfriend) you will see the dean and the associate dean in the clinic to make sure everything goes right for this client. In my opinion they should be doing this for every client as they are all important. This is what we should be teaching our future veterinarians. Administration should also be asking why it takes the older orthopedic surgeons 2 to 6 hours to perform a surgery most surgeons can do in less than 1 hour? Why do they have such a high implant failure rate and infection rate? Why do they leave junior residents to perform surgery without backup from faculty so important structures like ligaments and tendons are inadvertently cut. One such incident resulted in amputation of the dog's leg. After what should have been a routine orthopedic surgery for a knee problem. Why do these surgeons blame everyone else when the surgery fails? Why did we start an emergency service that has been greatly understaffed since inception resulting in poor care and angry clients and stressed out veterinary students? Lack of planning and foresight have resulted in an institution that is constantly putting out little fires while the rest of the facility is burning to the ground. This lies completely in the lap of the current dean - a person lacking in the ability to look at the entire big picture before making a decision; a person who makes decisions in anger and decisions that are not in the best interest of the college or students or patients. A vindictive and childish man. He is the reason UTCVM is losing the young and talented faculty we have and the reason we cannot attract faculty to fill the open positions. He is the reason our highly successful Integrative Medicine service was discontinued. He essentially had a temper tantrum and fired the clinician because she didn't agree with him on some issues. He promotes discrimination against older students and anyone who doesn't fit into his white upper class male criteria. He ridicules people when they try to discuss a problem with him. He has turned UTCVM into a toxic workplace. As they say, s*** runs downhill. Morale is generally poor and junior faculty do not feel they can speak out without retaliation from administration. Very sad. This is how you lose faculty and constantly replacing faculty is costing the taxpayers of Tennessee a lot of money.

Best possible care possible! Our appt. was for 1:30-2:00 pm due to the distance we had to travel. They immediately checked us in and took us….no wait! Our student Vet tech Karine was so awesome, even our dog loved her! He felt totally at ease with her. They take all the time that you need to ask questions, for them to explain every aspect of care. There was no sense of rushing to get to the next patient. We wish that we could go there for all our annual dog appointments, but is by recommendation only or emergencies. We highly recommend this hospital to anybody who has pets! AAA+++

Absolutely wonderful. We had a dog get scratched in the eye by a cat and it was serious. They saw him right away, made sure he was comfortable, provided excellent care and easy to follow care instructions for after he came home. They have an ophthalmologist team on sight for emergencies like this one, and within 4 hours he was back home with us and happy.

I wish I did not have to post a negative review, but I want to warn others. I waited months to get my pup into a Neurologist, and when the appointment came- I was seen by an internal medicine resident. I realize it is a teaching hospital, however, I should of been told this before I wasted my money and time with a resident who was clearly not knowledgeable to deal with a very difficult chronic case of seizures. The 4th year med student who did the intake was much better than the resident. The resident was not only ill prepared, but lacked all bedside manner and empathy. I know this is normally a great place to bring your pets, and I unfortunately was unlucky this time. But, I am extremely disappointed, as I sit here and watch my baby continue to seize.

Will recommend to anyone that will listen. Our 11 week old cockapoo got accidentally ran over by a scooter wheel and hurt his paw. We thought it was broken and went to the nearest Pet ER. They didn’t even triage him, just put us on their 4-5 hour waiting list. I messaged my vet frantically and he sent me to UT Vet ER. I was greeted within 5 mins of arriving and Charlie was taken immediately to be triaged and assessed. The vet and staff called me throughout to explain the process and procedures as well as provided options. They also let me know when other critical animals came in, which meant Charlie got bumped down (completely fine with that, it was nice to be notified). Charlie is home and on the mend but I was extremely pleased and while I hope we never need ER services again, if we do we will make the extra trip to come back to UT. Thank you so much for the care and compassion you provided. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
