DO NOT GO HERE if you are not white you will get followed in this store!!!! I went into this store with my friends and we were not greeted upon arrival and given nasty looks. We were looking at what the store had to offer and we were followed by the shopkeepers for no reason. Racism is a strong practice in this store.

I made an account, placed an order, money was taken from my account, then my order was cancelled and the money apparently returned. No attempt was made to inform me that my order was cancelled, after sending an inquisitive email, I have still not received a response several weeks later.I wrongly assumed my friends birthday present was well on its way, only realizing something was wrong when I looked up my order status, days later.Pretty unacceptable customer service!

Horrible experience, they would not let my daughter return a book light that she had just bought. It was cheaply made and was expensive, we didn't realize the kind of battery's it came with have a short lifespan (22 hours). The girls behind the counter were unexperienced and didn't know how to handle the conversation with the return. They denied us the return. Definitely would not spend my money there.

My husband, toddler and myself stopped in this afternoon and I can’t say enough wonderful things. The two staff members behind the desk both greeted us and smiled, but didn’t overwhelm as we bagel to browse. It is so nice to be able to enjoy yourself and not feel unwelcome with a rowdy, curious toddler. Their selection is quite impressive for how small the store itself is and I found myself struggling to pick. The children’s section is also quite large and unlike most stores, YA gets their own space, too. The quirky, bookish or other themed merchandise they have throughout was the cherry on top. If you’re browsing for a gift for someone, or even if you just want to peek around for yourself, I truly think this store has something for everyone. The historic building it’s in is beautiful and the overall cozy, welcoming feeling they have is what will definitely keep us coming back. I am normally one to shop at the big chain bookstore in west Knoxville just out of convenience of having my share of wide array of selection, but this store had more than enough to satisfy (and I read quite a bit).To top it off, knowing that you’re shopping small and local makes it even better. Knoxville needs more places like this, and the ones we have need all the support we can give! Thank you, Union Ave. Books!

A wonderful independent bookstore in downtown Knoxville, this unique place is such a gem. It's got so much character, a good book selection, and plenty of other fun merchandise to browse. I found a few treasures to buy. I visited in early January, and had the opportunity to check out their Christmas clearance. The staff left customers alone, letting us browse in peace, and were very polite during checkout. Definitely a must-visit for the bookstore lovers.

I love Union Ave books! Everyone is so nice, they can order any books that they don't carry in the store, and you can bring your dog inside!
