We rushed our 12-14 year old dog down to the emergency room the other day. she was freezing cold, unresponsive and we knew that she was dying. One of the vets ran outside and picked her up, and ran inside with her. if there was anyway of saving her i know it would’ve been done. These people were fast, patience, sympathetic and gave us every bit of time we needed to say goodbye to our Ladygirl. the general setting of the office was warm and comforting as well. i would recommend taking your fur babies here if god forbid something ever happened to them.

Everyone there works together to care for your pet. They offer several ideas on treatment even when other institutions push with euthanasia!

Original impression of this place was great, but was followed up with them causing a GI bleed in my dog, them keeping him in the ICU there without doing the tests they said they were going to do/feeding him his allergens, and then the treatments prescribed post-ICU stay worsened the GI bleed, hurt his kidney function, and they wanted to keep him overnight in ICU for 2 additional days when we returned yet said no specialist would be looking at him until Monday. I essentially paid $5,000+ for them to almost kill my dog and they wanted an additional $4,000+ to repeat the same testing/treatments they did 3 days prior that almost killed him in the first place. I strongly urge against leaving your pet with them.
Should not be allowed to be listed as an emergency and specialty office for animals.

We were referred to Dr. Phillips (Oncologist). We met with him once and he explained our precious dog needed his leg amputated immediately because of an aggressive cancer. He also said there was a chance there was cancer in his lungs but could not be sure but recommended chemo. We followed his recommendation of amputation and started the chemo right after. It was very stressful and frightening as we wanted to make sure our pet was not suffering more with chemo treatments therefore we had many questions after the first session. We tried to speak to Dr. Phillips at the appointment but he wasn't available so an assistant called many days after. During our discussion the assistant contradicted information that the doctor had originally given us. This was very disturbing as we based this very hard and important decision of amputation and chemo treatments based on what the doctor had originally told us. Now we were hearing something completely different from his assistant. I called again leaving a message I needed to speak to Dr. Phillips directly. We never heard from him so at the second chemo I tried again to speak with him, without any luck. I then began calling and leaving multiple messages. I was never rude or disrespectful in any way as I was so worried if I were my dog would not get the proper treatment he needed. To this day (now 4 months later)I have never received a call back from Dr. Phillips or spoken to him after the very first visit. As you can imagine this is one of the most horrifying processes and we had so many questions that went unanswered, which left our baby struggling and therefore he did not make it, only after a few months after his leg was amputated. So much pain and trauma our sweet family member went through and Dr. Phillips was too busy to make ONE call to us during this entire process that he recommended (not to mention the financial end which we were willing to spend whatever it took and they took advantage of that). We will never forget the unprofessional treatment we received at one of the most heartbreaking times in my family's lives. Take care of your patients Dr. Phillips, don’t just take their money! You lied to us and your assistant called you out, unfortunately too late.

Dr. Morre has been taking care of Athena, my German Shepherd, for over 4 years. She was diagnosed with IMHA, which can be a devastating condition. Dr. Morre and the staff at AESC worked very hard to help Athena then and continues to do so now. Athena isn’t very quick to trust but has completely trusted Dr. Morre and her staff over the last four years. She’s even comfortable enough to let them trim her nails. AESC has always been professional and responsive to all of her and my needs.

Abigail got very good care here. Everyone was kind and gentle with her and explained everything in detail. It is expensive, but I was able to see the estimate before testing. Dr Whittemore is friendly and an excellent doctor

We recently lost out 17 year old Yorkie. I called them about bringing him in and they were very kind and compassionate. When I arrived with him I was too emotional and called to see if they could come outside and get him. They came outside and the young lady who took him was so sweet. Today I received a card from them with employees signatures and my doggies footprint. That made me cry, but made my day. I don't care if this is just some routine thing they do. I APPRECIATED it. Thank you Animal Emergency and Specialty Center of Knoxville for being compassionate at such a difficult time. ?

This is the first review I’ve ever left and it saddens my heart I even have to write this:
we brought our dog in as she was up throwing up during the nighttime. upon arrival, the receptionists were very kind. however, once we were put in an exam room, we waited approximately 30-40 minutes until we were seen. initially, we were quoted 300-400 dollars for what would be an x-ray to see if there's an obstruction.
once we met with the vet, she was initially positive and smiling. then proceeded to tell us she believes there might be an obstruction but is sending the results to a radiologist. she reported if what she thinks is true then it'll be a 8,000-10,000 surgery. Mind you, she is still smiling and making jokes inappropriately while explaining this.
After my wife and I left and started to cry as we weighed out the realistic options, the vet called us with good news. However, during the good news, she said something like "if she vomits more than once within 8 hours all bets are off". Without explaining further, we interpreted as all bets are off meaning she has an obstruction.
before getting our puppy, we paid the bill. What was told to us in the beginning was a 300-400 bill ended up being $1000. There was absolutely no transparency or communication in what was being charged.
As we were leaving, we noticed our puppy had blood all over her back side. We asked about this where the receptionist went and checked, and was reported that "it's okay that's where they injected her". The needle gauge must've been massive or they didn't take it out tenderly and applied pressure as you should with injection needles.
All this to say, we will not be coming here again. However, the receptionists are very bright and nice!

My dogs have a pact to get sick or injured only on weekends and after regular vet office hours, so, we have visited Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville several times over the years. The facility, staff, services and protocols are exceptional.
The facility is modern, clean, and well designed. They are equipped to handle comprehensive diagnostic testing, treatments, and surgeries for an extensive array of illnesses and conditions.
Their protocol for patient intake serves as an excellent example on how to keep a waiting room safe, secure and comfortable.
Our 6 month old Irish Setter puppy, Darby, was referred to AESC's internist, Dr. Jacqueline Whittemore, for a persistent urinary tract infection. Darby was given a thorough physical exam and abdominal ultrasound. A urine specimen was sent to the lab for a culture.
Dr. Whittemore clearly outlined three likely causes for the persistent infection. A change in antibiotics was made once urine culture results were received. At the follow-up appointment, another ultrasound was performed to ensure no problematic changes were evident.
Dr. Whittemore's explanation of the findings, treatment and follow-up protocols were thorough and concise. Her non-judgemental patience in answering all my questions (including the dumb ones) was extraordinary. No stone was left unturned in diagnosing and treating Darby's condition.
Designing and equipping a facility of this caliber staffed by highly trained specialists like Dr. Whittemore is no small feat. 24 hours a day/7 days a week, outstanding critical emergency care is available for your pet. THAT is peace of mind.
