If I could give this place a 0 I would!! This place is a joke they kick a pregnant girl out in the cold!! The Captain ain't no Captain he's always on vacation somewhere or acts like he is to good to be around. An then one of the monitors steals a guitar and won't bring it back!! The only good staff members are Kathy and Stephanie especially Kathy she is the most Amazing Woman I've ever met and treats everyone equally there's no difference. Maybe if some of the other staff even the Captain got put out in the cold they would be more considerate this place is a joke!! They suppose to help but they don't!! The city trys to shut down other places that try there best to help but leaves this one alone and lets the black mold keep making people sick!! An right where the black mold is it's leaking water on the tables!! Like I said people give money to this place and where does it go!! Maybe some questions needs to be asked!!

We work with the homeless people a lot before the new owner they used to help the homeless people quite often or the low-income people quite often as well like it's someone had a job interview they would give them a full outfit shoes and all now they won't and the prices have went way up and they say is to help the homeless but I have a hundred percent proof that the new manager is pocketing money and it is not he said she said either if you naked comment saying this is too high he will say well we help the homeless so we have to price it higher and I'm like low-income people come in here and homeless people come in here to shop and they cannot afford this so it's really not helping them. You could go to Walmart and get clothes cheaper then you can there and toys whatever you need do not get it there it's so sad

The monitor Dyana screams & yells at residents, even the mentally ill people. She tells all residents that she's best friends with Lisa who is over all of the monitors, that she (Dyana) can speak & treat residentd however she wants cause Lisa will allow it and not fire her. I hear Lisa is great at her job and does not know how much Dyana uses their friendship to mistreat residence. Dyama screams over the smallest things that don't deserve anything but maybe a more efficient approach. Residence leave during the day crying for how Dyana abuses residence. My dad is in salvation army right now. He is in a chair most of the day. Dyana screams at him, verbally and emotionally abuses him when he can't move as fast as the others to do certain tasks. My dad is a veteran. My dad said several small children live in the shelter and witnesses Dyanas abuse to their mother and almost all residents. That lady shouldn't be allowed to work with people period, exceptionally the homeless or mentally disabled. She needs immediate corrective actions urgently. This is inhumane. I am aware the rest of the staff is greatEven other volunteerd and staff members are uncomfortable working with dyama. I used to be a resident here. Dyana is not meant to work around civilians. She's guilty of adulthood abuse in all forms. It's only a matter of time before she assaults a resident, if she hasn't already. Please do something about this, or I will take measures in to my own hands. My father nor any human deserves that treatment. Thank you

I am currently a resident and staying in the Salvation Army in Kingsport, Tennessee and I am a homeless combat veteran from 3 years in Afghanistan as First Lieutenant Culbertson...U.S. Army Intelligence, scored a 98 on the ASVAB and then I graduated from Fort Bragg jump school as a paratrooper and then I graduated from West Point as an officer specializing in espionage, reconnaissance, and surveillance behind the enemy lines and was then POW by the Afghanis for a week and tied up to an oil drum and soaked in accelerant and I am grateful for the rest of my squad kicking in the warehouse doors and dispatching the Afghanis, saving my very life... We were traveling across the desert and an IED detonated on the driver's side of the Hummer, killing my staff sergeant who was driving and my lance corporal sitting behind him... Shrapnel and the explosion resulted in a traumatic brain injury to my left frontal lobe... I now have permanent epilepsy, tinnitus, and complex PTSD with flashbacks... I received a medical discharge from the Army as well as a purple heart! ??? I am honored to have served my country with sustainable injuries and scars, both mental and emotional and physical... I see a psychiatric doctor, a therapist, and I attend groups... I take psychotropic medications and I am currently on muscle relaxers and nonopiod pain relievers and I walk 5 miles a day and weightlift 3 times a week... I am the Secret Agent Man...

It's very crowded. If you have a job then you can only work certain hours bc if you get there past 9 pm they either give away your bed or they don't allow you to come in at all. It's clean enough at least. The food is horrible and you never receive enough to fill you up. Avoid if possible.

Unfortunately I was in a position recently to where I needed to stay at this shelter. While I was extremely grateful to have that roof over my head some of the salvation army's rules and policies do not make a whole lot of sense. You have a limit of 45 days to spend there. A person cannot go from homeless to self sufficient in 6 weeks. During the week the day center downstairs is open so residents can stay out of the weather. On the weekend it's closed so residents are forced out into the freezing cold and rain. Unfortunately I think this is partly bc of the city. Kingsport does not like the homeless population. Half of the homeless population could be housed if kpt wud rebuild the old Lee projects.

I don't know much about the shelter or how much they do for the homeless buti do know whoever runs the Facebook page was very rude to me bc I got DATES confused. Hoping they won't mess with my kids angel tree letters bcof this review bc that's what I was contacting them about, something important to me and my family. I was not expecting them to be so rude about it.Edit as of January 2023 I never received my Angel tree letter I had to call multiple times to get the information of where to pick up the toys.

It's a wonderful idea to help the homeless in our city! The City needs to help UPGRADE this idea, to make more assistance available. The Salvation Army is overbooked for those in need and definitely could use City n State Grant's. Maybe ? Kingsport City should buy n donate the empty lot next door n help build up a 5-6 story new building to help out!? "This GREAT City" of Kingsport's homeless n disabled need somewhere more to go, since it's now a FELONY to be caught sleeping on Kingsport City's many Properties.

My mom is homeless and you're closed. Why should a homeless shelter ever be closed?
